I quite like where we are!!

TDD is making me laugh on this thread. I think you're missing the point mate!

I don't want to stay in this division any longer than is necessary but that doesnt stop me from loving every match I see. And I mean that. I am genuinely loving every match at the moment.

TDD, put your gun down, have a beer and enjoy the ride back to the Prem.

AS much as I'm enjoying being in League One this season, I'd much rather be in the Championship, looking for that all important push into the Premiership. If we do perform miracles this season and somehow go up (which I still don't think will happen) with the current infrastructure at the club, I don't think we'll be seeing League One again for a VERY long time. (The same goes for promotion next season too).

I am enjoying this season & this league the football has been better than I thought it would be & I am loving watching us win.If we dont make the play off's I wont be too disapointed to watch us in this league on a level playing field would be ace to get promoted as champions.

I do want to see us get promoted to higher leagues and eventualy the Prem but I have to say I have enjoyed knowing football is 3 pm Saturday.

I guess we are finding out what a lot of lower league fans already knew the prem isnt the be all & end all & there is life and good football outside it.

Lets enjoy winning and enjoy the ride if the destination ends up being the Prem happy days bring it on I am just happy we now have a debt free well run club with a great manager & team that knows how to win everything else is a bonus

You knocked the nail in there. I forgot on saturday morning I was talking to a Chelsea fan who was going with a load of mates from salisburyto SMS. He mentioned how he hated how Chelsea dont kick off their games at the traditional time of 3 oclock on a saturday but more often than not on a sunday afternoon. For a fan like myself who has been going for decades, I want to have all games kick off at 3, to listen out fro the half time scores when there was real anticipation of what was happening elsewhere. The PL has lost its soul to tv, but I expect I'll love it if we get there again

I don't agree with the sentiments expressed here but I do understand them. I am really enjoying watching my team at the moment. But if we follow a natural progression we will enjoy watching our team winning in the Championship and then Premership. We do have money behind us now. However, the downside of the premiership is that dropping out of it costs so much money that teams are **** scared of losing and it makes for a lot of very dull games. btw I hope Bolton get relegated - their **** of chairman has been trying to make moves to pull the ladder up behind him. Fortunately rejected by anyone with any sense of what is fair or not fair.

But thats what I am saying. I love being competitive and going into every match with realistic asperations of coming away with a win. At the moment, that is what I have. WHEN we get promoted this season, I am sure that, with ML's help, we will be competitive next year. And I will love that as well. For me, its not about the division we are in. its about the results we are achieving. I will feel the same as I do now if we were to emulate this next season in the championship, and then again the following season in the premiership. I would also have felt it if we had got relegated to the Blue Square.

I agree with this. It's not just results though, it's the whole feeling around the club at the moment.

The Premiership is the promised land of english football, its the place to be and we simply have to get back there, to say its better being in L1 or CCC is ridiculous, or even utter bullsh*t. Yes its great winning down here, but thats all part of the recovery process required in getting back to the promised land. Do you think Marcus Liebherr and Nicola Cortese are happy in L1 ?

I question the sanity of some of our fans.

I'd rather be in this league winning regularly paying £18 a ticket.

Me too.

With a few exceptions, Leeds tomorrow being one, I've been paying about £18 a ticket away from home and my nipper has been from £0 - £8 for 80% of them.

I could afford, but wouldn't wish to spend ££££ watching away games in the EPL.

I actually having the greatest time watching Saints!

Make no mistake I'm loving my footie at the mo but I also want us sat back at the top table. Who knows with the current owner etc we may just have more about us this time. I also appreciate the cost element - Prem sides need to build that into there pricing or you will see more and more empty seats.

Not the promised land, except for players and agents.

ML & NC are happy we are winning in L1 and that we will continue to progress, as SFC is an investment, with the prospect of a good profit some time in the future when we are sold, God forbid. If we get into the EPL it will just mean I can't afford to go to the number of games I do at the moment.

Am i the only one getting a bit of de ja vu? Didn't someone say the same thing about the CCC when we were getting thrashed 5-1?

Other then that i agree!

But i think our team could compete in the CCC. We played a prem team and were the better side for most it.

The big difference i notice from the later half of our prem days and all through our CCC days is we now have a team with a real team spirit. First time i a longtime we can say that. The players are not here just to get paid like basically our teams over the last 6-7 years. They want to do well and will not give up. Our win in midweek shows that attitude.

In my book there are two people to thank for that. Our great leader Markus and our manager Pardew.

With these 2 guys involved i have no doubt we will get better and better. But they will do it in a way that does not harm the club.

The prem league is a hard league, we wont win it. But we could deffinatly get to a point where we can compete. We have all the things required to do that, including now money.

The prem league landscape has changed since we were there. The gap between the supposed top 4 and the rest is not as big as it used to be. Look how many games those supposed top 4 have lost already this year.

I watch the team where ever they go. But i have to be honest and say i miss the days of going to places like Old Trafford,Anfield and thinking "we might get something".

I would love to see us back there in a position similar to say Spurs, Villa etc..

I did not think I would enjoy third division football and almost did not renew my St until the new regime came in. I now come awy from the games with a warm feeling and enjoy weekends and Mondays much more. If we can eventually move back into the Premiership by winning most games under AP, that will be great for me.

We'd all like to be back in the top flight for obvious reasons but it doesn't stop many of us, or at least those of us that go, from enjoying an entertaining Saints side scoring lots of goals at a price that is affordable to everyone.

I'll give it time before the thickies work it out for themselves.

I think the differences in opinion are between those who travel to away games and those who follow through the media, we've had top days out at fair prices this year, away from all the hyped up over commercialised "best league in the world"

Found this on the internet, if we got back to the top flight I can imagine i'd go back to spending money on taking in games throughout the continent rather than a fortune for a dull Premiership ground away game.

I’m old enough to remember when football was great in my home country (England). Although I will forever support the team I was born with I find myself travelling Europe looking for the atmosphere and passion to match that I remember from the past.

I went to my 1st game in 1986, I remember the old stadium it was cold, wet and freezing cold and the 1st time I stepped onto the terrace was a moment I will never forget. I remember the atmosphere, passion and the fear that went with football back then.

But now it’s gone, money, all-seater stadiums, over the top policing, passionless fans jumping on the bandwagon, and games on TV have killed everything that made football great. So if you’re armchair supporter with your Sky TV subscription then maybe you're to blame. If you’re not prepared to support your team no matter what then maybe you're to blame. If you only go to the football because it’s fashionable then maybe you're to blame. And of course there's the police....

I am loving league 1 but that doesnt detract from the fact that i want us to get out of this league asap. If we get to the prem, who knows where we'll go from there? we are financially stable which is a lot more than many curent PL teams can claim

Now that the 'shame' of relegation is gone and all the politics has died, Im quite enjoying the old feeling of being quietly confident before most games. Yes it is the third tier and we are a 'big club' but the football is real old style stuff. End to end, lots of tackling, goals and not bad entertainment with a team who seem to want to win.

Yes there are lots of misplaced passes and some players are not 'world beaters' but it is fun.

I was talking to a regular Arsenal fan and he is now getting tired of the PL. His seat costs him £100 a game, he likes the clinical precision of the passing and foreign stars but now feels it is wearing thin. All those 100k a week footballers bleeding the fans dry, i question whether I will pay double to watch us in the top division.

I quite like seeing proper football grounds. Not stadiums... grounds. See what football was before Sky, cash whores, agents and Bosman contracts.

I am enjoying this season because we are watching lads proud to wear our shirt and putting in the work for an honest manager.

I did not enjoy our years in the Championship as nobody generally gave a Sh1t on or off the field.

I always enjoyed the EPL because if we were beaten it was generally by recognisable players.

In conclusion quite happy to watch any team that puts it in for the support.

I certainly like to go to games now with a high hope of seeing us win the game!

I'd rather that than be a Prem struggling side, having to target winnable games and put the reserves out against the big guns (like McCarthy at Wolves this week).

I'm enjoying the ride. It's good to go into work on Monday and tell everyone that we won again.

This is the effect that winning games can have. Not just on the players, but it spirals through the club so quickly and eventually through the city. - it doesn't matter which leauge you're in, winning just has a great effect. - and that effect can last for years (as shown with Reading for e.g)

As has been said on other threads, Nicola and Markus will have got this feeling as well and im sure that's why we will have a fair bit of money to wave around in Jan.

TBH, i've got mixed feelings. Certainly, I have a more positive general vibe about saints - the quiet smile when I go about my day to day business.

Still, match days are sometimes more subdued: when we score, i don't punch the air and go mental as often as I have done in previous seasons, possibly because'many games have been pretty one-sided and scoring doesnt provide the same release or have the same stakes. On the other hand, I still find myself getting as nervous about the closing stages of games, even when we have a comfortable lead. Some habits die hard.

I expect alot of the passion to return if/when we get promotion the CCC and every game is a fight again. In fact, the CCC combines the best of all worlds - each game is evenly matched and honours are a realistic ambition. Its certainly less predictable than either the Premiership or FL1.

I think that is true, to me anyway. It may be as im getting older the thrill is going but silly things have been lost . Something as stupid as the draw for the fa cup.You never knew any teams number and waited holding your breath in anticipation who we were playing or was it us who had been chosen. No, the numbers are all there to see and so that silly little extra is gone.

Im sure as we go up in the world again my passion to be back in the Pl may return, but by then i hope a little more sanity will be instilled as the wages and star status may have been smoothered a little.

To my miond the PL is now froth and hype, how many times can they think up 'clash of the Titans' or Super weekend to try and make Bolton v Pompey seem exciting. The empty seats are becoming more evident as time moves on, sooner or later the clubs will have to address the stupid excesses they are paying footballers.

I was thinking exactly the same today. Would I rather have what we have now, or swap it for say Wigan or Bolton or even that lot down the road. Had a discussion with a younf pompey fan at the weekend. He was tryin to tell me how great it was in the premiership, watching all those world class players. I pointed out that whilst the opposition players may be world class, where was the enjoyment in watching them tear you apart week in week out.

I guess the problem is, if we keep what we have, we will eventually get to the premiership, then it will all get spoilt again.

Loving it at the moment though.

You SPOKE to a skate !! poor behaviour.

Seriously, I would be quite happy if we were challenging at the top of the CCC. The quality can be class up there.

Like most I am enjoying the winning feeling at most games. Thoroughly disappointed on Tuesday to be losing 1 - 2 to a bunch of thugs and a cr*p referee, I left early.

Won't be doing that again, whether div 1, CCC or Prem. Honest.

Should have had more faith in our new team/club

never do it mate, seriously!

the feeling of a last minute winner/leveller far outweighs seeing dozens of games finish disappointingly as expected.

the last 30mins or so on tuesday was sheer excitement

Errr ...... I think you will find that the playing field has subsided somewhat in our direction , the weight of all those Liebherr millions undermining the foundations . Do try to keep up . ;)

do people not remember beating the skates to go 4th..?

im not saying we could get into the champions league..but look at Brum, look at Fulham

both are showing all you need is good players and a great set up.....

I think some people are getting mixed up.

No-one is saying it is BETTER to be here than the Prem.

Everyone is saying it is BETTER to be competitive than getting thrashed every week.

If we can be competitive in the Prem then fantastic, but I would rather build the team up ready for it than get there in two seasons with L1/CCC players and come straight back down.

one thing I cant accept...people saying we are on a level playing field with the rest of league 1...

that is so far from the truth is it unreal

No it's not. We are better than most but we are not massively better than them, otherwise we would be challenging for autos by now.

I'm happy for us to splash a bit of cash and move on as much as I am with not getting to the playoffs, you just have to hark back to the summer of uncertanty and mix it all with some perspective.

I'm confused TDD, you despratley want to move on and get to the prem and only see this league as an 'annoyance' but your not happy about spending cash to get their quicker, plus you think there are too many 'sing when we're winning fans' but seems to be all you're interested in.

What is your antidote to the problem? In fact f.cuked if I know what the problem is in the first palce!

What all this boils down to is that the fans just want to see a winning team! It doesn't matter what division you are in as long as you are winning! BUT if you keep winning you will end up back in the Prem paying alot more to watch a team that probably wont win as often UNLESS Mr Liebher wants to GO FOR IT and pay BIG bucks. Untill the day when we get back to the Prem lets enjoy this winning feeling because its good fun!!!

Have to agree with all comments regarding not heading for the EPL. A league of overpaid prima donnas where the "top four-five" teams only think it's their God given right to get into Europe and have budgets that make that essential, look at the panic at Liverpool at the moment. I want to be in a competition where there is some chance of each team winning, not where 15 teams are cannon fodder for 5 teams.

Long live the Championship and below.

Mancsaint

Been saying this pretty since the dawning of the premiership itself. One sensed that once the old first division broke away, the mountains of money would make things very difficult for the rest. And, of course, those clubs that were at the top would have the very best chance of staying there. Plus, there was all the promotional glamour to be had to make them even bigger. Those Premiership clubs without a special romance with the SKY public would just have to make do with what was left.

The best step in the right direction for the cure of the premiership is to take the special element away, and that is to make it the First Division again, with second, third and fourth. Let's face it, all of us older fans think of the leagues that way, in any case.

Then we think about wage capping, and the excess money can go on lowering ticket prices and bringing clubs back into profitabililty.
