mcjwills Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Got up at 6am drove from Hedge End to Hamble at 6.30 this morning, took 30 mins to get there, only for the only manager in to get a phone call saying what are you doing in the factory is shut today, he replied, would have been nice to tell the 20 employees that have turned up for work. Decision was made to stay unless the weather turned bad, all decided to abandon ship and head home at 10am, at least I get paid for the day as I had made it to work and they have sent me home. Took 30 mins to get back.
Michelle Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Still steadily coming down in town/Shirley. Managed to get to work OK this morning, now home for lunch for a bit. Gotta go back in about half an hour. Unfortunately working from home isn't an option - can hardly serve customers from my front room! Also, month end today so paperwork must be done. Just hope it's OK to get back tonight!

Dimond Geezer Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Be careful driving today, the conditions are horrendous and I’ve just come off the road and hit a Portsmouth fan. It took me 10 minutes, 2 fields and a golf course, but I got the f***er in the end. It then took the AA 4 hours to separate my car from the wreckage. JackFrost Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 had over a foot of snow overnight where I am just north of skatesmouth. People don't have to careful on the roads round this area cos their impassable. St Landrew Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Barely an inch in Eastleigh... so much for this foot or so of snow we were meant to be getting! Pretty much what we have here in the north part of Southampton. You can see the level on the tops of walls and posts. Just an inch or a tiny bit more, at most. Nothing to write home about. St Landrew Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 I don't believe it. The BBC News are putting on a Big Freeze Special programme tonight. What's the matter with this country..? A few flakes of snow, and suddenly it's man-the-pumps time. Actually, I'm guessing most people are as bored with the over-hype of news, by the media, as I am. F***ing BBC. I'd much rather not have this 'special' and have the right to listen to matches on-line on a saturday.....

CB Saint Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 I spoke to our office in Norway today and they put our "big freeze" into perspective. When one of them stepped outside his front door this morning it was -32 degrees, -42 with wind chill. I think the word he used when I was bemoaning our weather was "mild"
