From the looks of the roads, I don't think you'll be going anywhere fast! Motorways will be cleared overnight though, and early in the morning, so once you get on there you ought to be alright. St Marco Posted 5 January, 2010 Share Posted 5 January, 2010 Pretty heavy here in Bishops Waltham. About 5 to 6 inches i would guess. Still going like a blizzard out there. Was walking back to the house when i saw a BMW being put on the back of a lorry. Asked what had happened and someone said the person had been trying to look really cool and do wheel spins etc.. Then lost it and hit a curb fecking up the front of it. Seeing the deep snow on top of the convertible roof made me laugh a little. So there is a lesson in there, snow = not good for sports cars! John Boy Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Share Posted 5 January, 2010 Get a long stick out and gently knock the snow from your dishes....................... Simples! Better still a couple of well aimed snowballs might dislodge the snow; just hope you don't give the do-da on the sticky outy bit a good clout. Whitey Grandad Posted 5 January, 2010 Share Posted 5 January, 2010 What is it with numpties abandoning their cars blocking the roads for us sensible drivers getting home  What is it with these people? A couple of inches of snow and they all decide that they'd better get out and walk. Modern cars all tend to be FWD so that makes it all easier. I remember driving round North London in the sixties in my dad's Ford Anglia 100E. Now that was a real challenge. Anything up to 6 or 8 inches of packed snow is no trouble on most of our roads. The odd hill can be a problem but as long as you get a run at it and ease off the power then it's a doddle. These kids today have never seen a real winter. Ice is different though, and that's what we're going to get on Friday and Saturday with daytime temperatures not getting above 0ºC.

Smirking_Saint Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 c*nting F*cking Sh*tty white crap, oh, and me being a complete Tw*t. "lets make a snow man" i say to the missus, until we both get outside and realise niether of us have a key. Sooo, the only option is to walk from weston to thornhill to her parents house for the spare. Jesus, it's like the end of the world out there, cars stuck and abandoned everywhere, i had to help push a few up the hill. It's crazy, out of this world. We are just as a nation not prepared for this sort of crap. Sooner i finish my training and get my 4x4 the better, oh, and remembering keys will help !!! Sev Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 & now the bloody snow has snagged my Sky signal ! The LNB is probably covered in snow. If you can reach it with a brush or broom then you should be able to sweep the snow off of it and get your signal back. Either that or sit and wait and hope the snow melts or blows away. Fortunately for me our dish is within arm's reach of a window.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Took 3 hours to get home from Chichester this evening. Cars abandoned all over the M27, on the slip roads and even one in the fast lane without the hazards on! Approximately a one hour queue at the bottom of Portchester Hill to try the ascent. W. Sussex/E. Hampshire has it bad, I'd estimate about 10" of it. A27 is diabolical with 10mph causing problems. Back here in Eastleigh it 's very thin in comparison! John Boy Saint Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Just finished a 6 foot snowman with the odd break because I swear the snow was not this cold when I was a nipper, all the tracks where I have rolled up the snow have vanished under fresh deep snow. Saint137 Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 3 hours to get from West Quay to Sholing, Bunny Hill & Millers Pond were impassable primarily because numpties were abandoning their cars so you couldn't give it a decent run up. To be fair it was sheet ice so it was a case of committing to the moment and going for it Based on the queue on Kathleen Road I assume Bursledon Road was blocked as well? Ended up parking the car and walking across the valley to get home...

oxfordshire_saint Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 I'm up in the North of Hampshire, we've had 2 power cuts last night, it started snowing at 6pm and still hasn't stopped! Sheaf Saint Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 We had about 20-25cm in sheffield yesterday. I tried to get to work and ended up having to abandon my car after I tried to be clever and take a shortcut to avoid the traffic. Didn't occur to me at first how hilly that route was and I got well and truly stuck. Had to walk 45 mins home in just my work shoes which have zero grip on the soles. All good fun! Johnny Bognor Posted 6 January, 2010 Share Posted 6 January, 2010 Just got back from the obligatory panick buying session. No papers, so having to rely on you lot to find out the latest in the Poopey saga. I went to Sainsburys in Chichester last night and they had completely sold out of bread at 8pm. The problem is that when there is panick buying you then tend to follow the pack. I was determined to buy some bread, if it bloody killed me. I drove round 3 convenience stores and 2 petrol stations to find a poxy loaf of no crust bread, as that was all that was left. A good 6 or 7 inches here Size does not matter, it's what you can do with it (apparently).
