St Landrew Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Well, we now have our paper thin coating on minor roads and paths in Southampton. With a bit of luck that'll freeze, and then we can be ready for some proper snow. If it ever happens, which I doubt, as it has stopped again. No doubt the rest of the country is knee deep in the stuff.

hamster Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Hop on your bike, zoom up the A34 and you can play in my garden An offer i have dreamed of receiving on more occasions than i care to remember mrs b, seriously. Do you like it when it's deep? Anyway, i have signed on to say that i am sat at work, having foolishly voluteered to wait for the last driver to get back thus allowing my Andover-dwelling manager time to get home safely. That was an hour and abloody half ago!! No sign of him yet and i am starting to get worried.....that my dinner will be in the dog. We have also received a message from the powers that be that we are officially CLOSED tomorrow. I will of course be working extremely hard from home as I have sent a file home to play with, the content =s of which I shall be discussing on the Techno forum in the morning as I need expert MS Excel advice. Assumiong of course that i actually get home at all. I have a kettle at my disposal, but coffee is locked at the other end of the building and the tuck-shop keys are in the bloody safe. I could starve here!!! hamster

St Landrew Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Must be the city enviorment, because it's settled well in Locks Heath, and only going to get worse I would guess. Lock's Heath..? Blimey, you're the other side of the River Hamble and halfway to Fareham. I've never called that Southampton.
hamster Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Behave Behave ??? You always start these things mrs b, always., then you berate me for biting. You are without a doubt the biggest teae that i have ever come across, and I have come across quite a few in my time. One day you are going to get it, you really are. Anyway, where is my ****ing driver? I am thirsty and hungry. mrs h suggested that i order a take-awy! yeah right mrs h, and how is the lad gonna get his moped up the hill, how is he gonna do that mrs h? I have actually borrowed (stolen) the last remaining yoghurt coated biscuit bar from the clients fridge 5 minutes ago (don't tell) and it tasted like cardboard, so much for healthy food.
Um Bongo Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Lock's Heath..? Blimey, you're the other side of the River Hamble and halfway to Fareham. I've never called that Southampton. SO postcode. 200 yards from PO land. It's Southampton alright.
St Landrew Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 SO postcode. 200 yards from PO land. It's Southampton alright. OK, if it makes you feel better.
S-Clarke Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 apparently there won't be much in central soton now, looks like it will pretty much avoid us. It's act. been raining where i am... never mind - at least the game will be on for sat!
scally Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 My boards been dusted off and then we get no snow, Southampton sucks.
BadgerBadger Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 (edited) I abandoned my car just off the M27 at Bursledon, rescued little-un from nursery on foot, then rescued the missues who had abandoned her car in Hedge End - now thankfully sipping a shandy and eating a chilli, phew! After spending 10 hours getting home when it snowed around Basingstoke before Xmas I count myself lucky to be able to spend the 2 hours I did getting the family home. dubai_phil Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Any word from further north into Salisbury & the rest of Wiltshire? Telegraph said they'd be hit as well so time to start to worry about me mum
Bad Wolf Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Just had to walk all the way from Fareham to Bursledon due to busses/trains not running at the time.
Um Bongo Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Just had to walk all the way from Fareham to Bursledon due to busses/trains not running at the time. LOL good effort. Bad all the way along?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Coming down like there's no tomorrow now.
Jillyanne Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Coming down like there's no tomorrow now. And here in Boyatt Wood.
John Boy Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 In Basingstoke its welcome back to the winter wonderland!! already 2.5 - 3 inches on the fence posts, the A33 runs past the bottom of the garden and its a soft swoosh snow covered sound of the rare tyres passing over it rather than the wet slushy sound. So that will be impassable by the morning.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Just has a text from a mate who has been stuck on the M27 near Fareham for 4HOURS!
BadgerBadger Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I maybe nearly 40 but when it's snows I feel like I'm 5
Made in Southampton Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I maybe nearly 40 but when it's snows I feel like I'm 5 Reminds me of simpler times.
St Landrew Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Hooray..! It is at last snowing nicely in Southampton, and looks like it is laying well. Hopefully, it'll stick around and actually be more than the usual excuse for snow that we normally get. When I can't tell the roads and paths from anything else, then I'll really love it.

S-Clarke Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 ok i take back what i said earlier, cannot tell the paths from the road here now. So heavy... It's exciting.... until you have to get up and go to work. I wish i could just fast forward through tomorrow morning as it's going to be ****. cars already skidding all over the place where i live!
RonManager Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 For those who don't already have it. Type in your postcode for detail live (15 mins ago) map. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ You have plenty more to come!! Started again in Taunton - gert lump coming down off the Quantocks.
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Got a good 2-3 inches in fleet and not letting up..reckon on 12 inches by the morning.....ooh err ( my wife just said i was being optimistic.....what does that mean??)
St Landrew Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Yeah - love it to drive in - NOT! Snow is not for driving in. Only very capable/professional drivers and very short journey drivers need apply. For the rest, it's a big snowball fight.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Any word from further north into Salisbury & the rest of Wiltshire? Telegraph said they'd be hit as well so time to start to worry about me mum No snow in downton at 8pm

It's just feeding in off the Solent - Bournmouth haven't had a drop - Easily now 6/7 inches in the Heath. I may even venture out and measure.
pedg Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 It's very 'web 2.0' but this site is quite interesting. Its plots snow reports and pictures off twitter. http://uksnow.benmarsh.co.uk/ (select hi vis icons to make it clearer where the snow is)
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Very wet in Chandlers Ford at 21:30 with just a soggy inch laying on the top of the slush. I don't mind driving in it, providing I'm the only person on the road.
Master Bates Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Lock's Heath..? Blimey, you're the other side of the River Hamble and halfway to Fareham. I've never called that Southampton. I'm Sholing, Southampton, currently 6cms and still bits of snow coming out the sky.
Sev Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I abandoned my car just off the M27 at Bursledon You're not the only one. It's littered with abandoned cars round here and still snowing. I went out for a walk and one driver I let use my mobile said they'd been in traffic on Hamble Lane for an hour and a half without getting as far as Tesco. And snow on my satellite dish ruined some recordings before I noticed. Doh.
Johnny Bognor Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 3 inches in Chichester now...... ...has anyone else lost Sky as we seem to have lost it round here????
Master Bates Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I abandoned my car just off the M27 at Bursledon. A lot of people have done that, I also saw a bus sliding down sideways (not on it's side) where 'The Target' used to be.
Um Bongo Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 3 inches in Chichester now...... ...has anyone else lost Sky as we seem to have lost it round here???? Lost it at 6! Thankfully COD has saved me. Just measured outside in the back garden - 5 inches.

And snow on my satellite dish ruined some recordings before I noticed. Doh. I came along Hamble Lane at 17:15 and it was very slow but moving. It all seemed to be because of very slow traffic going down the A27 towards Bursledon. I've just had a look at the TrafficEngland website at the M27 and it seems to get very slow from junction 8 eastwards.
