Minty me ol china, could you pop down to the airport with your magic mop and get the runway and taxiways and apron re-opened ;)

My son is supposed to be on the 2005 to Manchester tonight and bugger all seems to have moved today so far :( Wouldn't have happened in your day

Lol, well this is true, but alas, I spent too much time trying to get myself to work to worry about them today!

Everything should be moving again now so I'm sure he'll get away, if a little late.

In Bracknell we currently have torrential rain, which is just lying on top of the compacted snow and ice. The other half is at work in Crowthorne, a couple of miles away and he says there is thunder, lightening and its snowing. Well I guess thats global warming for you!

We had that a few hours ago - still white outside.

Downtown Leigh has just been dumped on by another couple of inches of snow ... the previous lot was still here.

Weather getting on my tits a bit now, seeing as my son's flight from Southampton to Manchester tonight has now been cancelled and he's been rescheduled for 1100 tomorrow, but the weather will probably stuff that little plan up as well

Can't understand why you seem to be having so many problems. Seaview was fine this evening

Talking of birds .... have you defrosted your butterball yet

Cheapskate you should buy fresh at a billion times the cost like me

I followed full RTFM procedures, defrost in Fridge for 3.5 days. Sorted, now, once the Seaview Xmas party hangover allows my stomach to settle a bit should be able to get the giblets out.

Frozen one was 2 quid a kilo. Fresh ones were about 150 quid a kilo. It's only the second Turkey I've ever cooked, decided to invest the savings in a round the world cruise for NYE.

As it's now Christmas, off to get a fix of Snow later with coffee at Ski Dubai. Has to be done

LOL My snow fix is scraping snow and ice off the car (YET AGAIN) and then risk life and limb getting from our cul de sac down a skid pan country lane to reach the salted main road and then collect Ian for Manchester Airport Part 2 .

Time permitting will build another snow man as well ;)

Seasons Greetings to everyone affected by the snow, after all the hassle hope it is still around for tomorrow to add to the magic of Xmas :p

  • 2 weeks later...

Thought I'd bump this up, as we could be in for some nasty stuff tonight.

MB, if this was any other place in the world I'd take your word for there being snow. But this is Southampton. It can snow everywhere else and we won't get a single flake, whether we've been forecast it or not. In truth, we'll probably get a light dusting, no more, and I can't be bothered with that. Well I'm blowed, I think it's drizzling.

I'm no killjoy. I love deep snow. I've just seen too many false alarms, about it falling on Southampton, in my lifetime.

I'll cross my fingers and hope I'm wrong..!

Ta, nice one. But I'd have to turn back as soon as I got near Winchester, where I'm sure the snow will be everywhere as it is predicted to be. :(;)

I've decided this thread subject is worthy of a poll, so here goes.

Bit of light sleet in Southampton at present. Totally boring unless it freezes. :D

From the forecasts it looks like it'll snow heavier and heavier this evening, temperature about freezing or just over, then there'll more persistent light snow tomorrow morning and the temperature will drop to -4 about 0700 tomorrow morning so it'll freeze just in time to catch anyone silly enough to try and head out to work...

If it's unsafe then you shouldn't attempt it, full stop. There may be alternative ways of getting to work, but no one should do anything they feel would put them at risk in any way, shape or form.

Try telling that to the aeroplanes that are flying above the UK wishing to land at the UK's airports - if we don't get into work, they're fooked

They have experienced pilots who have landed their planes hundreds of times.

Put your feet up and just leave 'em to it, i'm sure it'll be just fine.
