Its not just here that the ****s drive like dimwits, I was in Canada staying with friends for Xmas quite a few years ago arrived in heavy Snow which was great. Stayed in Toronto overnight then the next evening headed about 200 miles to the north east towards Ottowa, the snow had eased up but there was mountains of the stuff all around. As we drove up the highway every so often someone would pass us like we were going backwards, and so the game started: how many miles down the road will that car be off the road. It was stunning nearly every single car that blasted past us was buried in the central reservation within the next 10 miles!

I've just seen a car with only their windscreen clear (used the wipers) all other windows and lights are covered with snow, makes you think they want to have an accident!

I saw someone like that this morning. Really gets on my nerves! SHE had a little round bit on the windscreen that SHE had cleared. Like one of those little windows they have on a submarine!

When we had that heavy snow on a Friday back in February my kids were stuck in town because the Buses had stopped, so I walked to collect them and got the missus to pick us up nearer to home where there were no traffic queues. As we got closer to home this knob was driving so close to the back of my car that I could not see his lights in the rear view mirror and rarely in the wing mirrors, so I stopped the car where he could not drive round me, got out and asked if he had special insurance that covered him for driving like a pillock in these conditions? He just looked at me then as I walked away he laughed, I went back & told him to feel free to drive into the back of my car and see how much he will be laughing when his next insurance quote comes in.

I thought the world was getting warmer?! LOLOLOL!!?

Congratulations, your gift is some genuine Christmas spirit...

Maidstone is completely covered in a thick layer of ice this morning, thank God for my Kentish traits of (a) hardiness and (b) excellent balance 8)

During my 5 years in Kent, we were snowed in for at least a day or more, per winter. It's a bloody cold county when it wants to be. Southampton and it's environs, by comparison is like a bloody sauna*.

*I've exaggerated, of course.

Don't suppose California has anything more than 2 seasons, does it..?

Keep in mind how big the state is, northern Cal gets all the seasons while in the south the winters are mild. However, if I drive 80 miles north east to Big Bear, I could snow ski this morning and get back to Redondo and water ski in the afternoon!

Hmmm you sure you're in California? That sounds remarkably like the marketing pitch for Beirut in winter?

I once built a snowman in a metre of snow in the middle of a desert in Syria.

Hmm, rather impressive. Is it too late for a job in Silicon Valley..? Ah well, I intend to retire to the Med in 20 odd years, if I can. ;)

Just been speaking with a mate who lives in Chatham, Kent. Apparently, the snow outside his house is nearly a foot deep and doesn't look like it'll disappear. Good old Kent. It never fails anyone with a love of snow.

Sod all in Southampton, of course.

My daughter lives in Chatham, the kids were sleddding down the hills (roads) the other day on pieces of cardboard, faily safe as noone can get their cars up or down the hils and those already parked daren't move them. I grew up in Medway and swear the snow up there is more deeper, softer and more people get out and enjoy it. Even today we went to Oxford and some villages up there have got loads still, brilliant.

One of my fave ever New Years Eve's was spent driving sown to Deal in a snow storm wearing fancy dress, the drifts were over-hanging the Dover - Deal road by at least a yard and it was truly magical. we arrived with about half an hour to spare before midnight and most people had decided against fancy dress! My dear old Mum had dressed as a belly dancer!!! We got snowed in, my old escort froze as I never used to put antifreeze in it. a greta place to be stranded mind.

The snow at Maidstone Barracks station must have been a foot deep when I got off the train from London today. No one had even bothered to try clearing it off and I was right down the wrong end of the platform. Like the retreat from Moscow it was, true story.

We'll be down for Boxing Day luco, taking my Grandson to watch The Gills beat Brentford. She lives near to Luton Arches so I may even make the trek over The Lines and doff my cap to that educational edifice that is 'Upbury Manor' where I spent so many hapy hours fighting and watching others scrapping in the bottom field (an almost weekly event iirc).

Blimey sl, when I was just 16 a I stole a pool cue from that pub, was it called that back then though? I used to walk through from the army estate to the town centre. do you know if they are family friendly and am I still barred?

Do you know the Posrtland Vase, now that is a pub for a 'lock-in', if you are brave enough.

I was wondering where away fans drink nowadays actually, as in my youth they would all be marched straight down Balmoral Road but I was thinking the Livvy might be a good one for when I come down for the saints game as I'll me mingling with some local Pikeys for that one!

Not so this morning me thinks!!!

And helped by the councils inability to use a weather forecast and stupid women drivers Bristol is slowly grinding to a halt!!

I was driving down to Bristol from oop North last night and around 12:30am trying to come down the M32 was scary, almost had to abandon the car, was seriously treacherous. Manage to battle my way through it and park up where my student missus lives in St Andrews but it's quite hilly round here and I'm going nowhere at the moment!

First sprinkling in Taunton last night.

Highlight of yesterday's rail trip back from Leeds was a blizzard through Sheffield and Chesterfield. The trusty Voyager was up to it, even with a dicky motor (wouldn't idle), so no delays, plenty of food, toilets working, all tunnels safely negotiated.
