My Dad crashed into a fence this morning in Eastleigh and was quite shaken up. Called the police and they forced him to drive down to the police station in Eastleigh with his documents, treating him like a flaming suspect. ****ed off.

Driving without due care and attention is an offence.

Absolutely chucking it down with rain in Brighton - all the ice has started to melt. Wahoo! I think we've either got snow this evening or a hell of a lot of ice tomorrow though.

Which means it'll be chucking it down with rain here later then :( raining a little now as it is.

Hypo - sorry to hear that, hope he's alright.

Sorry Hypo, hope you didn't take offence to what I said :D

I saw two cars crash this morning and it wasn't really either of their faults. Just an act of god really. One guy was pulling out of his drive, hit ice and carried on out into the road and the other car broke and slid into the side of him. Fortunately he wasn't driving very fast but still a lot of damage done.

It hardly ever snows in Southampton, and if it does snow it hardly ever really lays. February just gone was a one off. Today is a typical for the area, snow starts to settle and builds your hopes up and then it starts raining again :(

And what about April last year? and what about last week?

Was just about to write a really ****ty reply then! It was down a side road and there were cars there slipping all over the place and crashing into the curb apparently. He's just rung to tell me that he's been issued with a crime reference number and said that if Eastleigh council wish to charge him with the destruction of their fence then he can challenge them because they failed to salt the road. Unbelievable.

You call that proper snow..? When it's at least 6" deep, and you can't tell a road from everywhere else, then it starts to get interesting.

You couldn't make it up. My dad ended up in a field today - perhaps he should invoice the farmer for ploughing services

In bracknell it has been snowing for nearly 4 hours now. all roads in Bracknell, Reading and Wokingham are gridlocked. We have lost our sky signal now. Am lucky that I am at home working, but my boyfriend is somewhere between Reading and Bracknell. He has been on the M4 for an hour and only gone 1 Junction.

Sorry to hear of your Dad's knock, hypo.

I swear that the next time some public authority figure treats me like crap, I'll ask him or her whether they would treat the queen like that. I'd expect a different answer.

It's the presumption that you are a criminal which gets me. The vast majority of people are truthful law abiding citizens who go about their business trying to do the right thing. It's the same with speed cameras when they stick them somewhere trying to catch people "breaking the law" when often it is dangerous not to be going at the speed of everyone else. Don't get me started on those damn roadworks by millbrook. They change the speed limit there so often I can't keep up! Rant over.

He should claim the damage off the council for failing to salt the road, get in a pre-emptive

My GF drove up to her parent's in Cumbria today. They live in a tiny little hamlet in the middle of nowhere a few miles outside Kendal with single-track roads as the only access.

Just had a txt from her to say she is stuck right near their house - car won't grip enough to get up a hill - and that her dad has got one of their neighbours who is a farmer to go and rescue her with his tractor!

My dad isn't that type of person though. He'll blame it on himself and claim it on the insurance.

Then all of us innocents will pay for the damage. Get him to charge Eastleigh Borough Council and then... Oh bugger.:(

I corrected it for you.

And why on earth were all the roads in Eastleigh not gritted/salted???

Lol. TBF it is the council's fault in my eyes. My Dad wouldn't sue someone though if they came and punched him in the face.

It was a back road going down a hill. I'll let you know the exact one when I see him.

I went out today (I live in Boyatt Wood) and it was like a bloody ice rink everywere around Eastleigh. Even Leigh Road and Woodside Avenue weren't treated.

Masses of the stuff coming down in Wokingham. Rained around lunchtime and started to melt the lying snow, ice and frozen slush. About 1:30 it turned to snow and it's been going on for over 4 hours.

I take it you are at home then. I am in Bracknell and its horrendous ou there. Cars apparently are coming off the M4 and A329m. My boyfriend is on there somewhere trying to get home from Theale.

I suppose this would be a really bad time to mention that I ate my Subway lunch while sitting on the Beach and paddling in the sea today in a balmy 20C

:-)

Yes

I think I spotted the downside there.

I ate my chicken tikka sandwich sitting in the car looking across to Fawley with just one crow and a soggy rat for company.

Its the School holidays, so fortunately no daily trip along A329 to Bracknell and back. Bad enough on Friday tbh. Heart traffic just said that M4 blocked both ways from J12 to M25, M3 from M25 to J8. All A roads a nightmare in Reading, Wokingham, Newbury , Bracknell and Basingstoke. Drive carefully Poshie - watch out for the idiots and I hope you and your fella get home safely.

My brother works in the Thames Valley Business Park and is trying to head for Farnborough. He left work at 3 and has only made it to Bracknell so far!

Extra Mayo on the bread (Italian) first

Then simply Tuna, Tomato & Jalapenos - but that was another thread.

Seriously gang, was driving up to Heathrow on Friday and it was really pretty.

Sounds now as though it has turned ugly, so may you and loved ones be safe tonight.

I joke, but I once had to spend the night on the M6 in snow, it really isn't fun, especially as I had an Austin Allaggro at the time (borrowed I may add)

Hope Eric's enjoying his skiing holiday in Lancashire

Spare a thought for my poor Dad, who is suffering from a dose of man flu, and is driving home from Hammersmith to Hook tonight. Might take him a while...

I work in Hook (luckily got stranded in Bristol overnight!) and my colleagues left around 3:30 but are still there!

Your Dad has one hell of a journey ahead of him tonight!

Sounds about right. My fella left Theale at about 3.30pm an last heard he was not far from the twin bridges in bracknell about 30 mins ok. apparently police are advising not to drive down part of the 329 from the wokingham junction to the next roundabout because you probably wont make it. Him being scottish did and made it, along with about 4 other cars. He also stopped to help a young girl who was stuck. Offered her a lift as far as he could, but she refused as she didnt want to abandon her car.

Hope your brother makes it to Farnborough safely.

My dad left work at 3.30 (Segensworth) and is stuck on the M3 trying to get back to Basingstoke.

Apparently M3 is shut between junctions 5 & 6. Not sure which way or if it is both sides

Just took me 1.5 hours to go from Warfield to Easthampstead and back.

Daughter stuck on M4 it has taken her 3 hours to get from Junction 5 to Junction 8/9
