CLOTH EARS Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I have now got to the point where I have got to get it off my chest. The commentary is crap week after week, the commentators sound half interested, and you cant hear the crowd. One of the major things that makes football exciting is being able to hear the crowd celebrate goals and hearing the crowd singing, i bet the atmosphere was cracking on tuesday night, but you wouldn't have a clue watching it on Saints player. Who, at the club do I need to speak to regarding this? Can somebody let me know. Thanks.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Saints player just uses the BBC Solent commentary. If you don't like it complain to the BBC not the club. Or just listen to the opposition BBC regional commentary on Saints Player.

Well any decent commentator isn't going to be working for highlights on club websites. Hard to attract anyone decent to do such a job so of course the quality will be more amateur in quality.
Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Anyone know when our contract with this company runs out?
krissyboy31 Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Get Nick Halling in to do it. He does the voice over for the BBC Football League show anyway, so he could do the whole match whilst he is at it.
CLOTH EARS Posted 17 December, 2009 Author Posted 17 December, 2009 Sorry folks i was referring to the commentary on the highlights and not the live commentary during games. I quite enjoyed the MK Dons highlights back in October when they used Radio Solents commentary instead of that dubbed over crap that they use most other weeks, you could also hear the crowd on that occasion!

Yeah, it was pretty dire for the Norwich highlights, wasn't it? The guy sounded like he was commentating of the gradual onset of rigor mortis. He took what was, by all accounts, a ton of excitement and turned it into a Merrington-like drone. And God knows what he was doing with Bart's name.
Hamilton Saint Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Well, yes, that commentary left a lot to be desired, but on the other hand, I am eternally gateful that we have something instead of nothing. We need to remember (some of you, of course, have never even experienced this) that there was a day when the only coverage of a Saints game was a written description of the game published in the Echo's pink edition early Saturday evenings. In those days there was no live televison coverage, no radio coverage, no internet discussion groups. No nothing! What we have now is fantastic. And I for one am grateful for it. Sure, there are problems with the system, but let's keep things in perspective. Things have never been so good for the keen football fan.

I agree that its great to have the saints player BUT it will only take minimal effort to improve it! I for one like to hear commentators that are interested in what they are doing and I like to be abe to hear the sound of the crowd singing and cheering!
Stud mark of doom Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I hadn't really noticed this until the Norwich game on SaintsPlayer but the commentary for our equaliser really was utter crap. Whoever did it should find himself another job.
Saint dyer Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 was thinking this too!! why cant they just use solent commentary like they did earlier in the season?
CLOTH EARS Posted 18 December, 2009 Author Posted 18 December, 2009 was thinking this too!! why cant they just use solent commentary like they did earlier in the season? Like you, I think that Solents commentary is decent and you can hear the crowd, it'd be a good idea to use it instead of having these crap, half interested commentators dubbed over the sound of the crowd.
dune Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 I disagree completely with the OP. Just try listening to the opposing teams comentators or click to some noddy clubs commentary and invariably it is of hospital radio standard. Listening to the Norwich game i thought the commentary was passionate and informed and delivered in a good way. I've subscribed to Saintstv for over a year and i've got no complaints about any of it.
69 saint Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 I do miss the ⅓ ½ when i'm stuck in traffic on the way home in the car

Liquidshokk Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I mentioned this in another thread. I think its will cope from radio hampshire doing the bad bad dub. quite poor indeed. is he trying to imply that he is commentating live or hasnt seen the game?!? if not then why the over excitement on what hes commentating on as he already knows whats going to happen?!? I for one would rather no commentary than that cringy performance. Email sent to the Marketing department as only semi-relevant address on the website...

Again, he isnt complaining about the radio solent commentary used on saints player. we're talking about the dubbed commentary on the video highlights on player only...
