Arizona Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Whoever it is, it'd be nice to have someone a bit different from rent-a-sponsor Flybe.
Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 the quite possibly...(in league 1 next season) match day tickets could cost £30 to fund this.. waaaaay too much dont ya think Bit negative of you Delldays, i'll remember this post when we go up in second place
Thedelldays Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Whoever it is, it'd be nice to have someone a bit different from rent-a-sponsor Flybe. indeed...for once, I would like a world famous brand...maybe Mars BMW Ford Friends Provident or southampton leisure holdings
Arizona Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 indeed...for once, I would like a world famous brand...maybe Mars BMW Ford Friends Provident or southampton leisure holdings Problem is their brand is already out there. They don't need sponsorship from League 1 football teams. I suspect it will either be Flybe again or someone from completely out of the blue.

Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 to be honest I would like to have Leibherr on the front.. I wouldn't, spelling his name wrong on our shirts would be one hell of an insult.
trousers Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Skandia The same company that for the last 2 years has come in the bottom quartile of most of the funds that they 'invested' my pension in? Not that I'm bitter. Just twisted.
benjii Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 We are more Man City than Man Utd. Far more. Man Utd are massivley in debt to their owners and banks. Man City and Saints have money pumped into them for free by their owners. Not that it's particularly relevant, but there you go. As for shirt sponsorship; the revenue raised whilst in League One would be fairly small. In fact the revenue raised by any team other than the global giants is probably pretty small. I wonder how much Sunderland got for Boyle Sports? I wonder who Burnley's sponsor is? I wonder who Wolves' sponsor is? In fact, I haven't got a clue who most team's sponsor is. If Liebherr wants to do something different (ie no sponsor, his family, his own business or something for the arbitrary anniversary) then it will not have any lasting long-term impact for the club. At the end of the day, the only reason anyone cares is becuase they want their overpriced piece of tat to look a bit better as it hugs their gut.
bowers-sfc Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I think draper tools would be the best one to have. Our first sponsors were rank xerox for 3 seasons then air flordia for one. Draper tools were our shirt sponsors for about 9 years and our still sponsors yu see around the stadium.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 17 December, 2009 Author Posted 17 December, 2009 So you missed the point completely. Liebherr Cranes is not Markus' company. His company is Mali, and as I said even if the publicity is free, I seriously doubt that a heavy engineering railway equipment company would derive any benefit whatsoever from sponsorship of an English 3rd or 2nd level football team - even a Premier League team would probably not benefit Mali much, but hey ho, if Markus wants Mali on the shirts rather than a named commercial sponsorship which brings in revenue to the club, its his Club and he can do what he likes (and I am very pleased that is the case)You missed a point aswell, they also make refridgerators to, So they're not just heavy engineering!

St Landrew Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 http://www.saints.co.uk I think I've wondered almost every time I see their trucks as to why they don't offer sponsorship. I would have thought it was a match made in heaven. Some of the money they paid for their diesel truck fleet probably ended up in Markus Leibherr's pocket. Possibly, they aren't big enough..?

Draino76 Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I would like a decent lager, like 'Coors'.
Saint_Ash Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Haha! LOL at a blank shirt sponsor just because it's 125 years! I agree with TDD "So What?" are we going to have a blank one for 130 years? 135? Does it have to be every 5 years? How about 126 year anniversary? We're a team on the up, a wise company will see that it could be smart to sponsor us, we're being run as a business, let's act like one.
St Landrew Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I would like a decent lager, like 'Coors'. If Saints had to have a sponsor famous for their lager, which I doubt Markus would allow anyway, I shouldn't think he'd pick some swill from the U.S.A. It would almost certainly originate from Switzerland or Germany.
altoniansaints Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 it would be great to have DRAPER back on the shirts
Rogerfryisalegend Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 A Local Charity would be great, These guys are just over the water from the Stadium and do fantastic work for people with disabilities. http://www.jst.org.uk/
Arizona Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 it would be great to have DRAPER back on the shirts I first read that as "Draper, on the back". Sent a shiver down my spine.
Legod Third Coming Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 It would be nice to have the option to buy a shirt wthout the sponsors name on it from the shop though. It would but this fundamentally reduces the value of the sponsorship.

Legod Third Coming Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Actually, what brand would we all want? For me, Hugo Boss... I like a nice Boss shirt.
toofarnorth Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I find the whole idea of putting a charity on the shirt bizarre. It has been said that Villa used to earn around £2.5 million a year from their shirt sponsor, but now put Acorn Hospice on their shirt instead. Would it have not made more sense to get a sponsor and then make a big fanfair about how they were donating the money to Acorn. That way they would get the money and the publicity. So therefore I think a charity is a stupid idea.
toofarnorth Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 And also I find the idea that people are saying we'll only get £100,000 like its an insignificant figure. That is a lot of money for a league one club and as many have said the club is a business run by businessman, so they would certainly not dismiss £100,000 out of hand.

What are the major charities based in/around Southampton?

What are the major charities based in/around Southampton? Well I think with right management of it you could achieve both, so its not simply a case of publicity or big fat cheque.
Colinjb Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 (edited) Well I think with right management of it you could achieve both, so its not simply a case of publicity or big fat cheque. I respectfully disagree. The gesture of giving them the shirt sponsorship was the defining point of the arrangement, donations to charities from clubs is no big deal, it happens fairly commonly and would generate vastly less interest. In this country the shirt deal was unprecidented. Edited 17 December, 2009 by Colinjb
SuperMikey Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 A charity would be great, ala Barcelona (who have Unicef on their shirts). With Liebherr at the helm of the club, I don't really think we have that much of a need for sponsorship money now, and it would be nice to have something of more value to people than a budget airliner stuck on the front of our shirts. Don't Unicef get a percentage of the revenue from Barca's shirt sales as well? Would be nice to have a Southampton based charity on the shirt too, anyone know of any? Nicola Cortese apparently regularly lunches at a hotel near where I live, so i'll nip in and propose this next time he's around!
Arizona Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Actually, I've just thought of a great sponsor. They even have Swiss connections. I'd love a giant picture of a purple cow on the side of the stadium somewhere on a banner.
Hatch Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I think the shirts should just have the message 'Please keep off the pitch'
Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I think the shirts should just have the message 'Please keep off the pitch' "Trespassers will be shot"?
VectisSaint Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 You missed a point aswell, they also make refridgerators to, So they're not just heavy engineering! No, thats Liebherr. Mali Group do not as far as I know manufacture refirigerators, though even if they did I would argue that is quite heavy engineering :-) If you want to know what Markus' group of companies actually do visit their web site: http://www.mali-group.com/ and if like me you odn't understand much German click on the English version.
saintchris23 Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 I find the ignorance on this forum unbelievable! Have the lunatics taken over the asylum or is it frequented by the yoof in abundance? When will people realise that we are a business and I'm pretty sure that our owners have NO interest in squandering money left, right and centre! People talking about not needing a sponsor because Marcus owns us, or the fact that we've got shed loads of money now so we can go and buy x, y or z leaves me shaking my head in disdain. I can assure you that is Marcus EVER read this forum, he'd shake his own head in pity and leave the room downbeat, thinking that we're the greediest, ungrateful and clueless bunch of people he's ever come across. To think that he's come along and bought a football club on the cheap on the say so of Nicola Cortese knowing that he'd have to invest a little to get the business going, knowing that if all else fails, he can mortgage the stadium and it's assets to gain his money back and sell the club, or at worst fold it, and STILL be in a profit at the end and some of you think it's a marriage made in heaven!? Wake up and smell the coffee people. TheDellDays is right and gets far too much stick for his comments in reference to us being the Man City of League One. Because if Marcus wanted to invest £10m in the club, he could do. Still safe in the knowledge that the assets of the club would cover his outlay, similar to a Directors loan in a Ltd or Plc business. If we get promoted all the way to the promised land and he decides that to take us further, he needs to mortgage the stadium et al, will you still be so happy? You only need to look at the team at the top of our league to realise how wrong it can go. Anyway, these are only my own thoughts, and no doubt many won't agree but I just couldn't sit back any longer and read the tripe that many of the over excited teenagers are writing. Chris
gaz Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Ikea. That way we can have a proper flat pack four.

What a bunch of sanctimonious claptrap. Calm down, Mary. No one is telling Liebherr he can't have sponsorship because he is Mr Moneybags, they are simply saying that it would be a lovely thing that many fans would appreciate if the club were to make a charity gesture or to celebrate the 125th (don't know why people are so fussed about that though) anniversary. As we are now stinking rich we are in the enviable position of being able to do so. However, all recognise that if Mr Liebherr wants to pursue the best commercial option that is perfectly reasonable. The corrollary of this realisation is that people are suggesting brands they find aesthetically, sentimentally or humourously pleasing.

I agree with all that, except the reason IMO we should be making a fuss about the 125th anniversary is that we very nearly didn't get there!
saintchris23 Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 We are NOT stinking rich and if fans want to make a charity gesture then they can put their own hands in their pockets. Just a thought though benjii.....did you use big words to try and differentiate yourself from the yoof? Like I said, just a thought.
bender Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Maybe a joint Viagra and Liebherr cranes effort with the motto ' Erections R Us ' cracking

I would have thought that being able to type reasonable English was enough to differentiate oneself from "the yoof", whatever you mean by that.
