Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Up 10% on last season. Just above Pompey.
Micky Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Up 10% on last season. Just above Pompey. For a team that was relegated - no other team can match that, shows we are making good progress.
EFM Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Hmmm............there was us relegated with a -10 minus ten points to Div 1 and there was Pxmpey in the the Premiership but some how we seem to be getting more support than them (ground capacity is irrelevant as they aren't filling their shed). You have to wonder, no realise/understand, that we have become a much bigger club than them over the last 35 years and now them look a huge embarassment whilst we remain the biggest club in Hampshire despite a temporary 2 division lapse. Ah, life at laughing at Fishwille while proud of our club is such a joy
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Poor old Bishop's Cleeve: just 52 fans anyone out there got enough time to compare those rankings against actual league position to see who's punching above their weight? No? Ok, well it didn't hurt to ask. You just enjoy your evening.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 where is Corp to prove this wrong? He'll just claim attendances are down 7% because the opposition teams are bringing fewer people down with them...
Iowsaintsfan Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 He'll just claim attendances are down 7% because the opposition teams are bringing fewer people down with them... Fans always enjoy seeing an away win though
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Fans always enjoy seeing an away win though They also like turning up to see their side play against big name players. I guess there'll be even fewer away fans at Fratton Park after the January transfer window then...

No? Ok, well it didn't hurt to ask. You just enjoy your evening. Shame, decent little club has a great clubhouse/bar, not long built. I know the general manager. He's a Skate but a decent bloke, so don't hold that against him (much).
Wes Tender Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 They also like turning up to see their side play against big name players. I guess there'll be even fewer away fans at Fratton Park after the January transfer window then... They also like to see their team containing players that are well known too. As they have lost Crouch, Johnson, Mendes, Kranjcar, Diarra, Campbell, Distin, Defoe, etc and replaced them with relative nobodies, then the more plastic of their fans will have no particular reason to continue attending. Yes, they could still see the big names when the big teams come to Krap Nottarf, but those big names that they had last season in their own team are no longer there as an incentive for when the other Premiership minnows are playing them at home.

Fan The Flames Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 does it include JPT games as that will pull down our average
Matthew Le God Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 does it include JPT games as that will pull down our average It is just League games.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Interesting Nah, just average.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 Nah, just average. No need to be mean.
StDunko Posted 27 December, 2009 Posted 27 December, 2009 31k yesterday, could move us up a place or two on here, plus make Poopey's Blue Few look even more pathetic.
St. Jason Posted 27 December, 2009 Posted 27 December, 2009 Up 10% on last season. Just above Pompey. Would be really interesting to view this page again at the end of the season, if our form and Portsmuff's continue in the same direction think there would be more than position in it, could see us really climbing above quite a few prem teams!
StDunko Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 wonder how often this is updated? It says "tables updated weekly" at the top of the page. HTH
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Hmmm............there was us relegated with a -10 minus ten points to Div 1 and there was Pxmpey in the the Premiership but some how we seem to be getting more support than them (ground capacity is irrelevant as they aren't filling their shed). Ah, life at laughing at Fishwille while proud of our club is such a joy to be fair are the ticket prices comparable? £650 for a season ticket at their place. I paid £288 I think.
View From The Top Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 to be fair are the ticket prices comparable? £650 for a season ticket at their place. I paid £288 I think. The counter argument would be that they are playing in the top tier and us, the third.
Daren W Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 to be fair are the ticket prices comparable? £650 for a season ticket at their place. I paid £288 I think. And to be equally fair we're a League One side. That rather evens it up and then some...
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 very good point, but £650 to watch CCC standard players is a bloody lot and when our side was asset stripped the summer before last (meaning we were watching League 1 standard players) it lead to a major decline in our own season ticket numbers. Christ, if we had stayed in the top flight and ticket prices had risen to £650 I think I'd have to think twice, and that's from someone that goes home and away, spending a small fortune.
VectisSaint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 It is a sad reflection on football at the higher levels that there are 2 League 1 teams with higher average attendances than 7 Premier League teams and all but 3 Championship teams. Even with us as the 3rd best League 1 team, there are still 3 Prem teams below us, not just Pompey. 15 of the 24 Championship teams have inferior home average attendance than us!!! Just shows what incompetent management of certain football clubs can do and that point deductions primarily hurt the supporters, not the ****s that cause the trouble.
Saint Samuel Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Thats something we can all be proud of, lets hope we can keep it up!
CLOTH EARS Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Poor old Bishop's Cleeve: just 52 fans anyone out there got enough time to compare those rankings against actual league position to see who's punching above their weight? St Landrew Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Oxford at 62nd as a Conference team is pretty remarkable. Yep it is. Mind you, their ground is up there with the most impressive in the lower leagues: http://www.conferencegrounds.co.uk/oxford_united.htm Frankly, I admire the crowds Norwich City get. Not exactly a team that has ever lit any fires, like Leeds Utd, yet they have a tremendous following.

Not exactly a team that has ever lit any fires, like Leeds Utd, yet they have a tremendous following. Agreed. I lived in Norwich for a few years, and never understood how such a small city managed to produce that many fans. The stadium is nothing much, and the football is usually so-so at best - yet they have a better attendance this season than seven premiership clubs.

Because there is nothing else to do in Norfolk on a Saturday
South City Si Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Because there is nothing else to do in Norfolk on a Saturday Pretty much this! ;-) Used to live in Norwich and they are in an envious position of being the only biggish team in the county so everyone who's in to football in Norfolk, pretty much, supports them. Unlike us who have the Skates to the east, Bompey to the west and Reading to the North, with London not too far away.
NickG Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 skates sold 7,000 tickets to home fans for tomorrow's game - rallying in hour of need!
ken Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 I think Norwich sold a lot of very cut price season tickets (for this season) well before they were relegated last year. Lots of fans bought bargain basement tickets at a time when they looked like avoiding relgation. Well done to Norwich for seizing the marketing oppurtunity.
VectisSaint Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Oxford at 62nd as a Conference team is pretty remarkable. Although 5 places behind today's opponents, who have a smaller capacity.
NickG Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/Attendance%20All%20Teams%20High%20to%20Low.htm including Boxing Day's - we have higher average than 3 prem sides
