for_heaven's_Saint Posted 16 December, 2009 Posted 16 December, 2009 Rested against Norwich because of a 'knock', does anybody know whether this was just a precaution and whether he is likely to be back in the squad for the Leeds game? Would be a great boost if he is.
Saint_clark Posted 16 December, 2009 Posted 16 December, 2009 No knock at all IMO, but the FL don't like it when you rest people in this competition. He'll start V Leeds, i'd put money on it. Definitely missed him against Norwich, we were nowhere near our best without him.

Saint_clark Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Is that you Ben? Come on, I told you my name over on footballforums, now own up...

Bailey Posted 17 December, 2009 Posted 17 December, 2009 Pardew said at the end of his Norwich post-match interview that Connolly was going to be fine for Saturday. Expect to see him starting alongside Lambert.

Cheeky Monkey Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 We could do with Brett Ormerod back..............
farawaysaint Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 We could do with Brett Ormerod back.............. Blah blah blah 11 goals for Saints in 90 odd appearances. Headless chicken blah
VectisSaint Posted 18 December, 2009 Posted 18 December, 2009 Blah blah blah 11 goals for Saints in 90 odd appearances. Headless chicken blah 17 in 95 Premier League appearances, 27 in Division 3 in 2000-01, and 20 in the Champsionship the following season. He's too old now (33), but at this level Ormerod was a very handy striker, scoring about the same number as Lambert. Even in the Premier he was very underrated, and enabled Beattie to score a lot of goals.

A great squad player with a great attitude.
david in sweden Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 I agree. Brett would be a welcome addition to the squad even at 33. A great squad player with a great attitude. YES, YES, YES, but a very ordinary record as a striker. Aside from his 101% application, he didn't score so often but did well on assists and was best serving up chances for James Beattie in BT's 24 goal season.(2002-03) If (as I hope) we sign another striker - even a 33 year old - I'd like someone with a good goal tally behind him. (ala Connolly.)
Andy_Porter Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 We shouldn't be looking at Omerod, I'd be quite upset if the best striker we can get is Omerod.
shurlock Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Omerod's game has been built on endeavour and mobility - and almost limitless stamina in chasing things down. In other words, the first things to go with age.
Chez Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 17 in 95 Premier League appearances, 27 in Division 3 in 2000-01, and 20 in the Champsionship the following season. actually he scored 20 goals for Blackpool in division 2 (the third tier not the Champoinship) in the 2001/2 season before joining us in December and scoring 1 goal in the next 18 Premiership games.

Letd look at players on their way up, not down. Simeon Jackson is the talent that is going to get a move to the Championship sooner or later. That's the kind of player we need.
