Appy Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 Graham Swann just hits a switch hit for 4. He is now on 52, what a match he is having.

the stain Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 I read with interest that if Swann is N.O. at the end of this innings, he'll have a better test match average than Bell.
keithd Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 both swann and jimmy have played tremendously and as I type swann switch hits another 4 !! SA have bowled pretty dreadfully at these two, but that detracts from a superb effort and I refuse to discuss bell anymore. to me he's dead!!! Appy Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 It does always seem Strauss is well set overnight and only adds a handful of runs in the morning.
stevegrant Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 Shaping up to be a very good game now. Why is it that our tail-enders have had to bail us out in the last two series? Bell and Trott's dismissals were ridiculous - they've both played with Harris at Warwickshire, they know he doesn't turn the ball!!

saints_is_the_south Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 If we can skittle them over for 150/200 then we have a good chance to win it. Early wickets tomorrow are the key
fish fingers Posted 18 December, 2009 Share Posted 18 December, 2009 Superb stuff from Swann today, nice to take that early wicket too. Set up for an interesting day tomorrow, thankfully i have nothing planned.
saints_is_the_south Posted 19 December, 2009 Share Posted 19 December, 2009 Great start from England this morning, 2 wickets taken & only conceded about 30 runs so far today. Anderson & Onions in particular bowling very well. Still about an hour or so till lunch so another couple of wickets would set the afternoon up perfectly. Ideally want them all out by tea, have a bat this evening then all day tomorrow to win it. Need to try & keep their lead sub 250 if we can i think
dubai_phil Posted 19 December, 2009 Share Posted 19 December, 2009 Guy in the crowd wearing Saints shirt Caught a bit of Swann's innings at the airport before flying home. Our tail is becoming like the Aussies, we keep seeming to scrape a hundred or more out of the last few wickets. As I'd been driving around hadn't seen the team until I saw this clip, really cannot understand what they see in Bell. He has the technique but he simply doesn't have the brain for Test Cricket. A number 6 should be a confident ball striker not a bundle of nerves. Think it is a disgrace that a Saints fan should have gone and travelled to the Test when he could have chosen to be at Leeds on Saturday instead

bungle Posted 21 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 21 December, 2009 What an excellent Test match from start to finish, gripping all the way through with both teams having their good and bad moments. Exactly why Test match cricket is THE premier form of the game, and shows up Twenty20 for being little more than a farce. Roll on Durban.
jeff leopard Posted 21 December, 2009 Share Posted 21 December, 2009 What an excellent Test match from start to finish, gripping all the way through with both teams having their good and bad moments. Exactly why Test match cricket is THE premier form of the game, and shows up Twenty20 for being little more than a farce. Roll on Durban. Absolutely It could be argued that a Cardiff-style conclusion will give us more momentum, and represent more of a moral victory, than if KP and Trott had saved the game and let the home crowd slip into a coma yesterday. And whilst KP's run-out was crazy in the extreme, and he committed the cardinal sin of getting in and then giving his wicket away, I don't think we should paint him as the villain. It does highlight a flaw in his game which prevents him from being truly world-class, but, when it comes to not maximising potential, Strauss must learn how to carry an innings over several days, and not play brilliantly one evening, and then get out straight-away the next morning. Only then will he prove himself to be one of the great opening batsmen.
markr27 Posted 21 December, 2009 Share Posted 21 December, 2009 Seems that Bell will be left out next week, but who comes in? Luke Wright - Batsman bowls a bit Adil Rashid - Batting all-rounder Liam Plunkett - Bowling all-rounder Ryan Sidebottom - Bowler Or is Cook in peril? stevegrant Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 If the wicket at Durban is likely to turn, Rashid will be in. If not, it'll be Wright, IMO.
dubai_phil Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 If the wicket at Durban is likely to turn, Rashid will be in. If not, it'll be Wright, IMO. Not sure they have enough confidence in Rashid yet for a test, hence why they took Treadwell in the party. More likely to be Wright, he at least has some bottle if not the technique for Test Cricket, can't be that difficult to score more runs than Bell? Cook will keep his place, he "has too many runs in the bag" from previously before his technique messed up, and the only alternatives as opener would be Trott Prior or Bell, and that ain't gonna happen Although depending on the weather conditions and the state of the pitch Sidebottom could get a surprise call up to wobble it around a bit. I'd go for Wright with Ryan if the conditions look like it could really swing around. Hopefully Steyn won't be quite ready
