I really really really hope Markus was there to witness this epic match :D

:smt040

Markus was there - what a game for him to watch !! COYR!

Only slight blot on the day was the Norwich Fan who was about 60+ walking to the van who said to the girlfriend "You're a bunch of tossers" to which the g/f said "Charming" and then she said "Oh f*ck off". Decided to retort to her a bit myself but then saw all the Norwich fans behind her waiting for the bus and just went home :)

do they still pick the ball from bags then, oh no they dont, tradition gone then

I think the essence of the tradition remains, slightly modified to allow for scrutiny and transparency of the draw, but in general it is still 'balls being pulled from a bag'. Simple and easy. ;)

Grant Holt - You Reap what you sow. IF you hadn't of cheated in front of the Northam End, claiming to have been elbowed, Your team would be in the finals.

You got what Cheats like you deserve. NOTHING.

Sorry - thought that was wrong and even more wrong was Papa giving the kid his shirt at the end. So all 5 year olds from now on will invade the pitch in the hope they get a shirt???

Why was it wrong.... it never used to be?

OK down to earth time.

Good first half from both sides. This was not Div 1 football it was far superior.

1-1 at half time was a fair reflection on the game. Worry was we were too narrow again, gave Norwich too much room on their right, our left. Assumed Pardew would correct it for the second half but he did not.

Second half Norwich were the better side. Not saying they stepped up a gear, we stepped down one.

Last gasp equaliser was thrilling and the penalty shoot out top class. Every penalty on target for both sides and some good saves from both keepers

Happy again tonight.

And didn't he give a big stare to the Northam End when he scored the penalty? Should have been booked IMHO for that but was already on a yellow I think...

Tearful here, had a bad day, car smacked by a pheasant on the A27 coming home, too much Irish, the roller coaster of a game and we do all the things that we couldn't do for the last few seasons. I love it, I faaaaaarkin love it!

On the subject of pheasants ............ I was driving home from work last month with one hand on the wheel the other resting on the open side window. BANG ! ferking pheasant flew straight threw the open window and hit me in the side of the head !

Football .......... rather enjoyable :-) !!!!!!!!!!!

Special mention to the 5 year year old who thought it was all over....and papa giving him a cuddle awwww

A classic saints moment. That is the best £9 i've ever spent. We were brilliant for the first half hour, but the Norwich upped their game and probably showed a bit more composure on the ball, but we battled away and thats what we've lacked in past years.

Well done to Bart and also to Papa who I thought was great today.

To say I am ecstatic is a huge understatment, i'm on cloud nine! COME OOOONNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!

F*ck the early start tomorrow, i'm celebrating into the night.

I'm sorry not to share the unadulterated joy you're all expressing here.

As I see it, Norwich have an away goals advantage to take into the second leg ;-)

COYR!

Wembley in March and May (x2) please!!!!!! :-)

What a mental end to the game.

Got to be honest, we were woeful from the 20th minute onwards, but it made a change for the ball to bounce kindly for us in the penalty area for the equaliser just like it had done for both of Norwich's goals.

Also, credit for the equaliser must also go to Grant Holt. While he was rolling around holding his face (when Antonio's arm had hit his ribs), we got on with the game and the ball just happened to fall right where he would have been defending... :D

In a word- YES

I dont care what competition this is. I dont care what opposition we have had to play. The fact is we are 1 two-legged tie away from a day out at Wembley against a team we have already played and beaten convincingly. Imagine 30-odd thousand Saints fans at Wembley cheering the boys on!!!

Whilst not wanting to jinx the MK Dons game first having a Saints V Leeds final would be a cracking day out. Last year Luton ended up taking an allocation of over 37,000. We'd easily sell that many.

Here's a list of the prices and initial seating plan from last years final......

Um, isn't running on the pitch an offence that means ejection from the ground and a potential ban?

Maybe, but if the kid was 5 unlikely to be upheld, below the age of criminal responsibility I think. Also question whether a 5 year old can "invade" the pitch, unless he was Attilla the Hunlet.

Yes - its does because the little five year old lad who wanted to get close to his hero's was going to start a riot!

were n't those rules conjured up by justice taylor (that well known footballing authority) who tried to sterilise the game after the Hillsborough tragedy. If not him to stop a load of morons from places such as chelsea, millwall and the like from killing each other.

Watch what football was like in the ere of Matthews and that great cup final to see how many jubilent and happy fans spilled onto the pitch.... did n't see any ejections on those clips.... funnily did n't see any trouble either, or any coppers for that matter. Some rules are un neccessary. The running on the pitch one is one of them.

Out of interest, why would he have been defending? Was it a set-piece? It didn't look like it on the SSN highlights but it did just cut to Antonio lobbing the ball in from the right hand side so maybe I missed something.

Not if you are 5.

Yup, which is why the parent / responsible should be banned for not controlling their child. After all, how many people actually saw the Antonio miss rather than watching the stewards giving back the child to the bunch of slightly older kids in the Kingsland? I'm sure that distraction caused Antonio to miss.

Posted

I couldn't watch the final penalty and stood down by the bars and that.

I thought he missed it as the whole ground went silent for a couple of seconds and then a massive 'YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH' came.

Fantastic feeling and the happiest I've seen St Marys in a very long time.

Fair play to Papa Waigo, giving that young boy a cuddle and I thought the steward was going to let the kid stand with the players. I think he also gave him his shirt at the end.

Great game - Norwich an excellent team but Saints without Jaidi and Connolly still got a draw. It seemed we were out, and then not only to equalise but to go through on penalties - amazing - and great performance in the shoot-out by Bart. Proving well worth his place.

Posted

The Spirit of Southampton is well and truly alive.

Best moments since Stern John against Sheff United.

Grantn Holt got just what he deserved - absolutely nothing.

Bart Awesome.

Still dont know who got the equaliser(?)

Loved the kids scuttling around the bovine stewards, all part of the panto - he's behind you !!!

Great win absolutely fantastic but we did not play well. We lacked width and some of the crossing from James and Harding was awful.

However we won and we're on our way to Wembly so who cares

Now now, just because you are in Wales there is no need to act like you have had a lobotomy. Fans invading the pitch is a no-no FFS! I just don't think a runaway 5 year old counts as pitch invader.

Fantastic entertainment for a start - worth every penny of the £9. Bart is a hero for some great saves. Shame about James and Antonio missing their pens - the latter one was shockingly poor and I am starting to worry that Antonio is not as good as I had thought he was. Special mention to both Hammond and Papa - both those guys worked their nuts off all evening and Papa deserved his goals.

Tonight was another fine example of what a winning mentality has set into the length and breadth of this club of ours. Onwards and upwards - Leeds who?

PS: I video'd all of the pens (except Adams - cam locked up!) - will try to get 'em up on U-tube for all to see (if they're any good).

Just not the Saints we all know is it? Closing games down, keeping slender leads, fighting back and winning penalty shoot outs? Alan Pardew WTF have you done with our team?!

:-)

Hmmm, closing teams down? Keeping slender leads? Not sure which game you were watching! We were very very lucky today, but then again it's nice to be the team with the luck for once.

Seen the goal on SSN - definitely Papa - I thought Lambert might have got it but he headed it down to feet in the 6 yard box and Papa snatched the goal.

Wasn't at the game but gotta laugh at the pitch invasion comments. A five year old, probably seeing one of the best games he's ever witnessed gets a little over excited and transgresses onto the playing area. A player, seeing his predicament, uses a little common sence and sorts the situation out in a more than festive manner.

I'm pretty sure that the stewards could have probably quelled this pitch invasion and fairly certain that no nasty precedences have been set for a gang load of thuggish 5 year olds to follow at the next home game.

It was a great night - just think of the stories that that young lad will be able to cite come 30 - 40 years from now - it's what we all dream about, so let it be.

Best £8 I've spent since Nadia in Bucharest ;)

worth every penny of the £9.

One of you got ripped off!! But I can even it up a bit. Nadia only cost me £7 - and I went first :-D

We had a free-kick right by our own corner flag. If he'd just got on with the game, he'd have been back defending on his 18-yard line and then back right in the thick of it when the ball went further.

When you've got a one-goal lead in the last minute of injury time and the opposition launch a free-kick into the area, you get everyone back, especially if they're as good as Holt is in the air.

Bang on! Frankly glad that the younger generation are loving watching Saints again. The future fanbase begins here....

Thanks TS.

Notice how we seem to be getting lucky in games more often now we've got a better squad? :D

That'll teach you [and anybody else] to think about leaving early on this team. I wonder how many people missed a classic ending, just so they could get to their car without hinderence..?

Isn't Arizona supposed to check your spellings before you post?

Exactly. Who was it who said the harder I work the luckier I get. Think that rings true. There is a reason teams like manure and chelski score so many late goals.

True enough. By the way, were they that much better than us in the second half? Salako (Sky Sports) seemed to think that Norwich were too powerful for Saints in the second half. He was getting on my tits every time they went for an update.

Agreed, however you cannot deny that we didn't deserve to win that game! Antonio could have been sent off at the end for an elbow: that could have changed everything. Regardless, we're through! We can play attractive footy in the next round! :-)

I feel it depends on the spirit of the invasion... for instance last game at the Dell, good hearted and joyus.

the season we beat the drop against Sheffield United...no drama's.

Any non league giant killing. Nothwich Victoria v Norwich this year and it does n't even get mentioned only in the light that the media love it as it is all part of the atmosphere of the cup. It is another example of taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. a futile law that is only used when it suits.

I went to watch Rotherham at Shrewsbury a couple of weeks ago and had my coke bottle top removed, even though there was about 100 rotherham fans, what is the point of that apart from me ending up with wind as I have drunk my coke to fast! the country has gone nuts when you get ****s on here moaning on a night like tonight about a small kid running on a football field. twists my melon.

I thought we were appalling in the second half, to be honest. Probably on a par with Swindon away for ineptitude and lack of ideas. Lambert and Lallana were both man-marked out of the game. Antonio gave us a bit more impetus when he came on, but Norwich's tactic of "kick anything that moves" in the last 15 minutes didn't help us much.
