It's a fair enough view to take, but would it have been fair to ban Martin Taylor for 12 games or more? Yes, if he meant to break Eduardos leg, no if he didn't.

It's too fine a line for me. It's not exactly a unique case - just stick to the rules and give him the three match ban, otherwise you will get clubs screaming for players to have longer bans all the time.

Martin Taylor had quite a fair argument that he was going for the ball, but Guthrie really cant deny he was hacking the guys legs away. Dont think he should be strung up but maybe five matches and a larger fine would be more appropriate as has been done in the past for more aggressive red card offences. If he just gets three matches I think the Hull fans will rightly have a few things to say.

How is what Prutton did worse?

It is a hard line though. It's not always possible to be certain there was "intent" behind a dangerous tackle.

I'm very surprised Guthrie has admitted publically he did it because he was frustrated (ie. he meant to do it) - could certainly face a criminal or civil case now IMO if Hull/Fagan wanted.

Only a 3 match ban.....

"The FA doesn't have the power to extend automatic suspensions.

"The only circumstances in which we could take any further action would be to issue an additional charge against a player.

"This occurs only in exceptional cases, such as Ben Thatcher's challenge on Pedro Mendes in 2006."

I don't see the difference between Thatchers challenge and Guthrie's tbh. OK, Thatchers challenge was at high speed but they both were out to hurt the player in question and had no intention whatsoever to play the ball. I don't see how this is not an "exceptional case".
