L1Minus10 Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 There was one verse of a Waigo song that came out of the Northam on Saturday. I thought I heard He's always offside He's always offsi-i-ide Papa Waigo He's always offside to the tune of Sloop John B. Can anyone confirm or deny or correct me. Cheers

Cheers Yeh I can confirm that this was sung by the Northam on saturday and this has always been sung when Waigo does get offside in the game! I hope this helps!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 It's not just when he was offside on Saturday, it was sung when he came on off the bench.

Saints foreva Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 I bet this chant does his confidence so much good...
St Landrew Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 I'd like to hear something along the lines that the linesman got it wrong. Sung in the same part of Sloop John B: The lino is blind The lino is blind Papa Waigo Was never offside Try that next time.
SparkySaint Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 (edited) Someone needs to show him a video of early Michael Owen goals. Holding and curving his runs. I guess this maybe is something that comes naturally and can't really be taught but you never know. There are many other strikers that we can attract that are much better than Waigo so we'll see what happens. I'm sure he'll get many more appearances so he has time to earn himself a contract but I just don't see him as the sort of player that is going to rack up a decent goals tally. Arizona Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 I might sing it when he scores, just for the sake of being ironic.

Annoyed me. I can see it's fair comment when he's already been offside 6 times in a match as with the previous St Mary's game (which incidentally was when it first appeared, rather than "always" as is claimed above), but when he's just coming on, why give the linesman the idea that he's going to be offside to begin with ?
St Landrew Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 He's always offside He's always offsi-i-ide Papa Waigo He's always offside You realise if you continue to not support the poor bugger he'll end up singing back: I wanna go home I wanna go home This is is the worst trip I've ever been on.

It's something which is eminently coachable, one of the first things any kid will get taught as soon as he meets any kind of organised defence and have to deal with offside. Running sideways in an onside position and then going forwards only when the ball is played isn't what I'd call a "natural" skill, like reacting to rebounds or striking a ball - and even they can be coached.

I doubt that a professional lineman would be influenced by or base a decision on a chant by fans.
nathan Posted 14 December, 2009 Posted 14 December, 2009 There were at least two clear occasions on Saturday when he wasn't offside, but was flagged anyway. I'm not saying he is never offside, but a fair few times his pace makes it look like he is when he isn't.

Was wondering how long it'd be for the first "I'm a big tart and feel sorry for his feelings and emotions and stuff if he hears our sing song and doesn't like it, poor papa" response. It's just a laugh. We're not "not supporting him". I'm sure he can handle it. xx

A subject we have debated, and several of us are in agreement that he is too fast for the linos, who raise the flag, on many occasions.

It's not so much that he has to learn to stay onside, he has to learn to play so that the flag doesn't go up.

My take on it too. TBH, pretty basic coaching practice for any forward players. Timing is the issue here, not the skill element.

Well, the club ought to be able to provide video evidence for the FL. If we could show that the linesmen got the decision wrong on numerous occasions, then the case for either extra linesmen or video evidence becomes more compelling. I was musing about another possibility. Wouldn't it be possible for the trailing linesman to have some of device that enabled him to indicate by an electronic beep to the forward linesman the second that the ball was kicked forward? Then the forward linesman would only have to look at the position of the striker, rather than having to watch play down the pitch and make a simultaneous judgement on when the striker made his move?

The pitch should definitely be divided into quarters IMO, with one lino in each. Your idea would be a further evolution of that.
MorningtonCrescent Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 Although it was funny at the Wycombe match, I really can't see the point in this becoming Papa's song at this stage. Who knows if he finds it funny, or does or doesn't understand it? The officials ARE influenced by fans throughout games. On Saturday Papa was hardly offside at all - perhaps showing he's learning something...?? The couple of times he was flagged, he was clearly NOT offside..... Its a stupid song IMO, but the Northam will persist with it because they'll never understand anyone else's point of view. (for the record, I have my ST in the Northam and attend many away games and indeed I do like to sing......)

greg_hill Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 Well done to all the gentalia that sung this song for one of our own players. As noted, it's not going to do his confidence or attitude a whole lot of good to have his own side's fans knocking him. Why not sing it when he scores for irony?

Red And White Barmy Army Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 He's always onside he's always onside papa waigo he's always onside !!!
The Majestic Channon Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 So who actually scored the 2nd papa or harding ?
Matthew Le God Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 I'm pretty sure Waigo wasn't offside at all in 93 minutes So much more effective than Antonio Pardew worked his magic
Deanovski Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 If its not a negative song why don't any of the mongtards sing that when he scored?
saint-luco Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 he's always offside unless the linesman says not
Deanovski Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 Sign him up assassin infront of goal, great striker .
RedAndWhite91 Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 He's never offfssiiiideeee, cos Papa Waigo has just practically sent us to Wembley if we beat MK Dons over two leggssss. New words. Learn them.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 15 December, 2009 Posted 15 December, 2009 Definitely Papa, just seen it on SSN. He loved it.

I could have done a Deanovski and called you a mongtard, whatever that is. :smt008
mynameisthehulk Posted 16 December, 2009 Posted 16 December, 2009 The amount of people sat around me tonight who quite clearly knew nothing about football was frightening, really. Papa Waigo is a quality, if unorthodox, player. Not offside once tonight, scored twice, some good passing, tracking back, making himself available when playing on the right, or up front, yet still some people want to sing about him being offside all the time
