SO16_Saint Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 hi all. To those who have got / had cats, can you help, please? My cat has over the last few days started peeing on the floor / bed and also poo'd in the shower. he has also stopped eating normally, but is drinking loads. can anyone shed any light on this? Up until this weekend he's been housetrained for 3 years and not had one accident - and he went out for the toilet. Is it just a phase, or could there be something wrong? he's also started screaming - not meowing - screaming a fair bit for no reason.
Fowllyd Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 The only advice I'd offer is to get him to a vet as soon as you can - may end up costing you a few quid, mind. If that's likely to be a problem (the money side, that is) then you could try the PDSA. Edit - you can find the PDSA here: http://www.pdsa.org.uk/
TopGun Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Are other cats coming in the flap and worrying him? Also, if he is old (you don't say how old he is when you got him), kidneys.
sotonjoe Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Are you taking the mick? If my cat started behaving like this I'd have it down the vet pronto ... I'd be really worried!
Deppo Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Definitely something wrong.
SO16_Saint Posted 13 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 December, 2009 cheers for the advice guys. Im going to take him to the vets first thing tomorrow. I phoned the Vets at home people and they said to keep an eye on him today and if worried still tomorrow to take him down. He's been better lately - not so shouty and is happier to be picked up. Im hoping he just coudn't be arsed to go outside for the loo - it's been pretty cold, the coldest of the year so far. Have put his litter tray down again, so hopefully that'll help if it's just laziness. He's a 4yo moggie, btw
Baj Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Good shout from TopGun actually, has the cat been any fights or anything recently that would make him not want to go outside. If its not that then it certainly sounds like an illness, hope its nothing serious

SO16_Saint Posted 13 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 December, 2009 It's amazing how attached you get to cats (animals in general i guess). we never wanted a cat, but now we've got one (he kinda adopted US) we couldnt be without him. Crazy, eh!
Colinjb Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Fingers crossed for your Moggie Bridgey. If anything similar to this happened to my two I would be worried sick. Let us know how it pans out.
bridge too far Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Has he been innoculated against feline leukaemia, Bridgey? One of my cats exhibited similar symptoms and that was the cause. Mind you, she was pretty ancient. Fingers crossed it's not that - good luck

If so its unpleasant but they can give antibiotics which soon clears it up. Have fun administering them though.I gave them in its food so the cat stopped eating all together , placed them in its mouth (vets idea) got bitten and scratched ,crushed them up and put water with them and squirted into its mouth and it expelled them by blowing pink foam out the side of its mouth ! The syringe method finally worked soon as I mastered the technique.........
Kadeem Hardison Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 Check its claws. My cat did exactly the same thing. Turned out it had been hit by something (you can tell if the claws are a bit torn up). Took her to the vets. She didn't last the night.
dune Posted 13 December, 2009 Share Posted 13 December, 2009 It's only a cat so my advice would be to put it down and buy a new one.

SO16_Saint Posted 14 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 December, 2009 It's all quiet on the cat front. He's been acting a lot more normal and is eating/drinking normally again - and thankfully, he's not pee'd or crapped anywhere apart from the litter box. Hopefully it was just a rebellious phase he was going through!
SoccerMom Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 Would still get him checked out. If you've been letting him have milk, then stop that - milk can give tomcats kidney stones, I've heard. He may have passed one (hence the screaming!). But cats have delicate kidneys, so make sure you keep the vet's appointment!

If the answer is yes to my question, then feed him some cod liver oil with his kitty kat and all your problems will be solved. The same thing happened to my cat. Barfy Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 One thing recommended to me when one of our cats started acting bit strange (drinking a lot, not eating normally, peeing and sh1tting around the house etc) was to check the white bits under their eyelids. If they have a yellow tinge it can be a sign of a kidney infection, or worse. Otherwise, like Dog says, does it eat wildlife? if so cod liver oil or picolax should help
Whitey Grandad Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 Sorry but I don't like cats. It's probably cheaper to have him/her put down.

Master Bates Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 You should still get it checked for feline leukaemia / tumours.
