S-Clarke Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 Even if torquay is marked as a draw, the one statistic that comes out is 1 defeat in 15 games. when was the last time we did that? stunning run of form.

so22saint Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 I'd like to see a League table over the last 12 games
keithd Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 I'd like to see a League table over the last 12 games so kinda like a form table then?
madsent Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 we won on pens. 90mins= DRAW I agree. I keep telling Liverpool fans they've won 3 and drawn 1 European Cup finals and have 1 draw in the Champions League final. One of my fondest memories was our 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in the FA Cup in 1992. Can't remember the last team we actually won there.

TopGun Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 If you just take the league though that is 8-2-1 which is impressive. And yes, Brighton is annoying!
sussexsaint Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 We did win against Torquay hence our progression to the next round of the cup HTH

Southampton win 5-3 on penalties Att: 9,319 Ref: Trevor Kettle (Rutland). Think you'll find the rules say something like "in the event of a draw after 90 minutes the tie will be decided by penalties". The tie was therefore decided on penalties because the match was drawn. See the Gulls won 5-0 today, Pokey keeping another clean sheet.

hutch Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 There's a bit of a leap between "draw after 90 minutes" and "the match was drawn". Did the match end after 90 minutes? Just being Devil's Advocate.

Matthew Le God Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 when did we have a run like this before? At a guess... 1984? 1978? 1966? 1960? 1922? 1904? 1903? 1901? 1899? 1898? 1897?

Matthew Le God Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 a few of those are before my time! Without checking don't remember a period like this even in good years but maybe Well I was 2 in 1984 so all of them are really before my time. These are all the years Saints have come 1st or 2nd in the League. I'm sure we must have put a great run together in some of those seasons.
St Marco Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 I still don't get how people see the Torquay game as a draw. It was a cup game that could not be a draw if i remember right? Out of interest to those people who know a bit about betting. If you put cash on say Saints to beat Torquay in the cup, and it is a draw and has to be decided on penalties, then in penalties Saints win, do you still win the bet? Another interesting statistic, we just equalled the amount of wins we had for the whole of last season.......and some people wanted to keep Wotte.....
NickG Posted 12 December, 2009 Author Posted 12 December, 2009 I went for fixtures to appease those after petty arguments - but seems, although if we hadn't won the fixture I wonder what my ticket for Tuesday is for? - they still don't understand. Poor loves.
beatlesaint Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 At the risk of repeating myself, which I do everytime this stat is updated, has any club in the country got a better record at the moment than us ? I think not Forget the Torquay nit picking argument and enjoy being the best form team in Britain and possibly Europe and possibly the World !

If you put it down as saints to qualify you would win, otherwise the bet would either be saints to win not including extram time, or saints to win.
Arizona Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 Torquay was a draw nick...how many times have you done this as you still get it wrong..we drew the match with torquay yeah we didnt beat Torquay Who won the last World Cup? :-s
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 I think Nick G needs to get out a bit more.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 Penalty kicks are just a means of deciding which team goes through to the next round. They do not form part of the game.
St Marco Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 If you put it down as saints to qualify you would win, otherwise the bet would either be saints to win not including extram time, or saints to win. So say i went into the bookies, and put a bet on Saints to win, they would not pay out if it was a draw in normal time?
red&white56 Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 OK - now the real test next week-end. I just wish I could go!
Jimmy_D Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 just because the result of the Torquay match would have been a draw in a completely different competition doesn't mean it should be counted as a draw. We won the match under the rules of the competition it was played in, hence should be counted as a win.
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 We drew the match and went through on penalties. Anything else is a matter for the bookies.
Jimmy_D Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 Penalties are part of the match no? aaaand http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4790589.Saints_make_it_five_wins_in_a_row/?ref=mr The Echo disagrees
hypochondriac Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 I think Nick G needs to get out a bit more. I think you need to enjoy life a little more. If you don't care then why not post nothing?
Hamilton Saint Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 In the winning sequences page on this website, Saints are in three of the tables (the most impressive being 8 away games since a loss). http://weekendfootball.co.uk/statistics/win-sequences.asp
Saint_clark Posted 12 December, 2009 Posted 12 December, 2009 nick...how many times have you done this as you still get it wrong..we drew the match with torquay We won the FIXTURE. We drew the GAME. Hence the change in title.
Saintandy666 Posted 13 December, 2009 Posted 13 December, 2009 I think Nick G needs to get out a bit more. Why do you take issue with him? I don't understand why some people have vendettas against other people on a message board. It makes no sensicle. Really good run of form we got going at the moment, hope we can keep it up and slowly grind our way towards the playoffs. If our form stays near the best in the league, this will happen.
westofshannonsaint Posted 13 December, 2009 Posted 13 December, 2009 We won the FIXTURE. We drew the GAME. Hence the change in title. a subtle but (imho) correct difference, I have too much guiness in me to go messing about with excel so I will leave it to someone else to give points ter game required & all that (I normally get something wrong anyway)
Verbal Posted 13 December, 2009 Posted 13 December, 2009 So England drew the 1966 World Cup Final then?
oxfordshire_saint Posted 13 December, 2009 Posted 13 December, 2009 Does it really matter? Either way, we didn't lose. Far too many pedants around, considering times are good right now.
