great result, didn't sound like the best first half, but we came out with much more drive in the 2nd and our class showed in the end.

3 more goals, 2 more for lambert. It's great, we're so free scoring at the moment.

Cannot wait for the Leeds game next weekend, time to show the league what we're all about.

great result...

we sounded very average in the first half and they sounded quite lively...

I guess pards did his stuff at half time and we could have had 4 or 5...

we are going up..

Are we 12th yet?

We were 13th at one time but finished 14th

Games against Leeds and Colchester away now extremely important I would have thought

Posted

Result should help swell the already away following up to Leeds.

Meanwhile there were 480 skates at Sunderland :D LOL shame they got a late draw though. :(

Sounds like AP earnt his corn today, 1st half we were going nowhere.

Really looking forward to seeing the Le Tissieresque free kick by Rickie.

Leeds here I come.

A bit jittery at HT but the biys done good.

Bring on Leeds!

Rickie 's goal tally up to 18 for the season - and a clean sheet as well!

FAN-bloody-tastic!

He stands at nearly six foot three

Rickie Rickie

He'll take us to The Premier League

Rickie Rickie

He gets the ball and takes the p*ss

He wears the shirt of Matt Le Tiss

Rickie Lambert

Southampton's Goal Machine

At last a man truly worth having that famous No.7 shirt!

Job done. But with 6 of the top 8 winning, it still leaves us 9 points off the play off spots. Leeds is a massive game - win that and what a message we'll be sending out!!

Off for a beer.

Now where is that statement someone came out with during the first half..? Ah, found it:

...I have a feeling we are not going to win this....tranmere seem to be doing well this match...

:D

Most satisfactory 2nd 1/2 and just look at our goal difference :-) by far the best outside the current top 6. I can really see us in the play offs, long way to go I know, but at the start of the season I wouldn't entertain that as an out side possibility.

Happy days!

Again brilliant job from the Saints, just enjoying being happy on Sat afternoon.

Only slight downer is we made no progress on 6th, thats what I always look for now. Still, I reckon if we could be between 6 and 8 points short by Jan 1st, we have a good chance of making the playoffs.

Pardew may have earnt his corn today but I felt at half time Tranmere had done their best but we would come to the fore in the second half

Similar to last season where sometimes we started well but then failed to go on to win

Things seem to be better with Perry in the side but I think he should be rested for the JPT

Don't want to look down but we are now 5 points away from danger. A very nice 3 points better than last week. Here's hoping it's an even nicer 8 points, this time, next week.

Will be a big boost to the confidence of the boys if we can get into the top half of the table next week. We just need to make sure the gap between us and 6th is getting smaller.

Just think, if Lambert wasn't so fat and f**king lazy he would have had a hat trick and we'd have won 4-0, Lambert is so s**t blaah blaah blaah blaah blaah blaah blaah blaah

*Just thought i'd get it in before someone else does* ;)

W00T!!! Missed the first 15 minutes because of queues at the flippin' ticket office. TBH though, I could have been an hour late into the ground and not missed any action. Great second half though. This had 0-0 or 0-1 written all over it at HT, but Saints are made from sterner stuff these days. Two candidates for goal of the season in a game I never thought I'd be able to get to. :D :D 'ave it!!

Players:

Bart - 8 No problems with having him in for Davis IMO. Dealt with everything that came his way expertly. Had one flap at a corner, but only because Jaidi got to it first.

James - 6 Was decent enough by his standards. One horror backpass though.

Jaidi - 7 Won a lot in the air, a few sliced clearances.

Perry - 7 I don't think he's up to it against tougher opposition, but there was nothing wrong tonight.

Harding - 8 Dealt with the long balls that came his way. Brilliant goal.

Antonio - 7 Good running and made a lot of space.

Hammond - 7 Got around the midfield well.

Schneiderlin - 6 Seemed a bit quiet. A few quality crossfield balls. Guessing he got taken off because he was booked.

Lallana - 7 Decent movement, worked well with Harding down the left.

Connolly - 7 Everything is just so much better with him up front. He moves, he shoots, he passes, he scores. Lambert plays a lot better when Connolly plays. 4-4-2, it's the future.

Lambert - 9 A decent strikers performance, but that free kick gives him the MOTM award on it's own. Worthy of Ronaldo in a World Cup final. Fantastic!!!

Subs:

Wotton - 7 Came on and was solid. Pretty reliable passing too.

Waigo - 6 I didn't have the best view from the Kingsland North, but I could have sworn he was 3 yards onside for THAT chance. I think the lino panicked when their defender messed up and stuck his flag up in sympathy.

Mellis - n/a Meh.

P.S. Thankyou Tranmere for not bringing any strikers to this match. If other teams could be this generous, I'd much appreciate it.

Moving up the table will be slower now as more of the top half teams will win their games but they won't all win every week, and Saints are really the form team now. Excellent second half today and good to see that KD won't just walk back into the side.

Posted

What a goal from Lambert! That was worth the trip down on it's own.

Huddersfield away in the rain is a dim and distant memory now! Feel like we can beat anyone!

Just got back

Ref and linesmen were awful, how the ref did not send off the player who handballed the ball for the penalty I will never know. Most blatant red card I have ever seen, at first we thought it was the goalkeeper claiming the ball, but as he went to ground we realised it was an outfield player. Shocking decision by the ref.

Papa was given offside after their player played the ball and he was on for a fourth goal.

Thought Antonio was very poor today, would have bought on papa a lot earlier.

The pressure on us will increase because the nine point deficit is a lot and we really have to win the games against playoff rivals.

Having said that, it's really competitive from third down to us, and I think these teams will be continually taking points off eachother and improving our chances.

I agree about KD. Bart strikes me as a real "confidence keeper" - when he feels good about himself he plays very well, but when the doubts kick in his game can go all to hell.

ME i am just going to enjoy winning again, the game itself was dour but lit up by the goals,Tranmere came to frustrate and got their reward.

Close your eyes and Lamberts free kick was like going back 10 or more years.

The club has its first hero that kids can emulate for years.

Absolutely awful first half. Second to the ball, no width and Pardew said and did nothing.

Second half looked the same but suddenly a fantastic pass from the ever aware Connolly and a great finish by Harding. From then I could not see us losing against a poor and toothless Tranmere.

James and Antonio poor. Connolly movement and positioning, Jaidi's heading strength and Perry's awareness at the back were our strength but no doublt Lambert was man of the match with 2 goals, a good penalty and a fantastic free kick.

Lallana failed to emulate his recent wide play but was still tricky particularly in the second half.

Bart did not have to do much but looked firm in goal. Davis will not find an automatic passage back.

Good result in the end. I am happy.

Another fantastic win, really wasn't expecting that scoreline after the first half, was one of the most tedious halves i've seen for a while! Quality free-kick by Lambert, can't wait to see it again! Bad game for Antonio I thought, likewise James. We NEED to sign some proper cover for right back in January.

Posted

Tranmere just frustrated us in the first half and looked solid but they were never going to do that for 90 minutes and class told in the end.

How fat was Michael Ricketts!! He was blowing like anything after about 2 minutes of being on.

I think Papa was offside from the goal kick, as to the penalty - well there were a no of people on the line, so it might not have gone if Lambert had headed the ball ... so I can see why the ref didn't send him off ...

The 1st half was dire, but that is because we played Tranmere's game ... they slowed it down, fell over at every opportunity, etc ... 2nd half we were a lot more positive & once we scored ... game over!!

Great game ... oh yes ... what the heck was going on with tickets, I queued for nearly 30 minutes to get ticket ... missed the 1st 2 minutes ... people behind me must have missed 15-20 minutes, as they were still joining back of queue as game kicked off ....:(

Can't wait to see that free kick on TV. When he lined it up I said he can't score from there. It's too far out. A moment later and it's hit the top corner!! Fantastic. Unstoppable. Rocket propelled. Unbelievable.

We are but if we beat Leeds, and it's a big if, we will have reduced their margin over us by seven points in three games.... Now that's worth thinking about! ;)
