JackFrost Posted 11 December, 2009 Share Posted 11 December, 2009 A friend of mine is a regular Morrisons customer and nearly always pays with their card. She checked her bank statement this morning and discovered someone in Nepal had been fraudulently withdrawn a large amount of cash in 1 transaction. She went to Barclays to get it sorted out and one of the first things the (very pleasant and efficient) assistant said "Have you been shopping at Morrisons"? When the assistant rang the fraud department he asked them "Why did this not get picked up?" the faint reply was heard from the other end of the phone, "Well it doesn't look suspicious does it", to which the assistant put his hand over his eyes whilst rolling them. (Of course you can be shopping at Morrisons in the south of England and be in Nepal at the same time) Anyway apologies if this has been brought up before somewhere but judging by bank's reaction, this seems to be a well known scam (to Barclays anyway). Initially I'd advise anyone to avoid using chip and pin if they shop at Morrisons, but does anyone know if this is a problem purely with Barclays? Or does it affect all banks? Has anyone experienced this?? etc.
swannymere Posted 11 December, 2009 Share Posted 11 December, 2009 It's usually a local problem at one branch, not a nationwide thing.

tpbury Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 I've always enjoyed the frozen chips at Morrisons and their haberdashery section is second to none. Sadly, I wont be able to go again as a result of this post.

It's that for both chips and pie? I'd be wary of £1.99, seems too cheap - it would have to be both a chip AND pie scam, possibly involving under-filled pies and 'skimming' every third chip in order to create extra portions. I'm not sure.
