Another reason why I was angry he was appointed then happy he left quickly after

poor manager

I thought his appointment was fairly regressive in terms of taking the club forward but TBH I wasn't happy when he left. In his 13 games he W5 D2 L6 (not a bad record) and the last thing we needed was the managerial revolving door at it's peak at a time when WGS left and some stability was needed.

I can see why people didn't exactly take to him, I think the biggest factor in him leaving was a personality clash between him and Lowe. Then Lowe gets Jason Dodd knocking on his office and door and the rest is history.

The unrest aside, Sturrock still had a decent if short record here and I wish he'd have been given til the end of the season

Another manager loses his job afer having to sell his best players. Despite Dulldays hatred and lack of knowledge of him, i rate Sturrock as a decent manager who has had more successess than failures at clubs. Saints actually played some great football under him with great displays and exciting football from a young side. Happy memories of away wins at Wolves and Man Citeeh and home games v Liverpool and Newcastle spring to mind.

I personally wish him all the best in whatever he does and with his battle with parkinson's disease.

you do realise that I have lived in plymouth for the last 10 years..?

tell me what he has done that is so good out side of league 1....dont peddle out his saints record as we have seen with pardew..the first 10 games dont really count

where do I hate him you arse..? I just think he is a terrible manager above league 1....and now, it seems the fans of the club he gave their greatest achievement to, agree...unless, they also "hate him and have no knowledge"

Paul Sturrock's managerial career

Team From To Games Won Lost Drawn

Plymouth 27-11-2007 Present 100 28 50 22

Swindon 07-11-2006 27-11-2007 52 26 15 11

Sheff Wed 23-09-2004 19-10-2006 104 35 40 29

Southampton 04-03-2004 23-08-2004 13 5 6 2

Plymouth 31-10-2000 04-03-2004 178 85 46 47

Dundee Utd 05-09-1998 07-08-2000 85 27 39 19

St Johnstone 01-08-1993 05-09-1998 197 90 51 56

I'd say that's not a bad record for a manager who has managed clubs on limited budgets.

not getting relegated(despite your predictions) with a club punching above their weight perhaps?

Plymouth aren't punching above their weight, they are a second tier team.

Pulis and Holloway did a better job at Argyle than Luggy did.

And I like Luggy, it was a shame it didn't work out at Saints but I think his tenure would have ended in failure even if he was given longer.

There is no question he is an excelllent lower tier manager - his record at PAFC first time, Sheff Weds and Swindon prove this. But like TDD says, he just does not cut it higher up.

wasnt sturrock one of those lower-tier managers we signed after his side knocked us out of the cup? on the tenuous theory that if they were good enough to beat us the manager must be terrific? my memory might be playing tricks, but I think that was the dave jones/stockport model as well

Your memory is playing tricks. Sturrock got Plymouth Argyle promoted from League Two in 2002 and they were promoted again in 2004, to the Championship, shortly after he joined us, but the Championship promotion is very much considered his doing. That's why we signed him, and apparently WGS recommended him to Lowe, as well.

Tbh, if he had stayed where he was, and we hadn't f***** about with his career, then he'd possibly still be doing OK at Argyle now.

Once again, Saints were under-ambitious in seeking Sturrock out, but he gave a reasonable account of himself in the short time he was with us. Some very good victories were managed under his tenure, at the end of the 2003-04 season. Whippings to Man City 3-1 away at Eastlands, and Wolves 4-1 away at Moulineux were of his doing. Credit where it is due.
