The Cat Posted 15 December, 2009 Share Posted 15 December, 2009 The Wire Twin Peaks Northern Exposure Six Feet Under (first couple of series before Lisa disappeared - then it just got far too grim) True Blood Would probably have Sopranos in that list if I'd actually seen it. Lord Duckhunter Posted 15 December, 2009 Share Posted 15 December, 2009 Sounds like 'I'll fly away' but actors name escapes me, sorry. Thanks, that's it. Just googled it and the actor is Sam Waterson. It was a pretty good show.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 15 December, 2009 Share Posted 15 December, 2009 I still maintain that the 'Star Trek' franchise is easily the greatest US TV series ever broadcast but I'll throw in a additional contender from the left field - the wonderful 'American Gothic' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3xD3q0C3SM Children in peril , corruption , hot babes and Satanic evil in the American South it's got the lot . Mmm Donuts Posted 15 January, 2010 Share Posted 15 January, 2010 was having a think, over the last few years some real top quality stuff has come from the US.... 24 Prison Break (season 1) The Unit Have to say, IMO the very best are.... 1. The Wire 2. Band of Brothers 3. The Sopranos I agree with your 1,2&3 above. Thought Dexter went downhill rapidly. Got band of brothers boxset. Saw the Sopranos in Milton Keynes for £60 just don't know how often I'll watch. Still going with The Wire, got about 8 on sky+ waiting for me to watch. They also had The Shield, haven't seen that, was it any good?

bpsaint Posted 18 January, 2010 Share Posted 18 January, 2010 Just finished watching the 4th season of Dexter, and for me it was certainly the best to date. Won't spoil it for the fans yet to watch it but the ending really was a shocker, didn't see it coming at all! So glad to see Michael C.Hall win a much deserved Golden Globe last night, shocked to hear he is battling cancer but it appears he'll make a full recovery which is great. Congratulations also to Jon Lithgow for his Best Supporting Actor win,he was exceptional as The Trinity Killer. Looking forward to the final season of Lost which begins soon, theres a lot of loose ends need tying up and I hope really it finishes with a bang and not a whimper. Ash Posted 18 January, 2010 Share Posted 18 January, 2010 1. The Sopranos 2. Battlestar Galactica 3. The Wire All very, very good. All improved my life immensely. All had characters I genuinely loved as well as some I genuinely hated.

Congratulations also to Jon Lithgow for his Best Supporting Actor win,he was exceptional as The Trinity Killer. Yeah, was shocked to see that as he came out to get his award looking a bit weak and wearing a beanie. Hope he makes a full recovery. Didn't realise he was married to Jennifer Carpenter who plays his sister on the show. Ricky Gervais hosted the Globes well...he won't asked back though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjcBcWMLbfY

Wiltshire Saint Posted 26 January, 2010 Share Posted 26 January, 2010 Has anyone mentioned Mork & Mindy yet? Nanu-Nanu! Quality TV from the yanks, yet again. I'm not sure the Brits have ever had a comedy to compare with it. Not even Two Packets of lager or Men behaving badly.

Block 5 Posted 4 February, 2010 Share Posted 4 February, 2010 I'm really enjoying 30 Rock. Top quality comedy that is attracting lots of guest stars in cameos. This week was Steve Buscemi.
jeff leopard Posted 4 February, 2010 Share Posted 4 February, 2010 I’m watching the last few episodes of the final season of Deadwood. Brilliant stuff, almost Shakespearian in feel, but with regular nudity and a record-breaking use of the C word. Such a shame it got cancelled as it improved no end after a slightly underwhelming first season. Once its finished, my life will go back to being completely pointless. SnailOB Posted 4 February, 2010 Share Posted 4 February, 2010 3 of my favourites My name is Earl (skip season 3 - that was shocking) Chuck Arrested Development - very sharp and well written comedy
Colinjb Posted 4 February, 2010 Share Posted 4 February, 2010 Firefly (Stupid idiot network cancelling it after one season in which they screwed up the episode running order.) Battlestar Galactica (Re-make, Utterly brilliant) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (A seven year long slow burner about an all out intergalactic war? Yes please!) And yes, I do loves my Sci-Fi. IamLeGod Posted 4 February, 2010 Share Posted 4 February, 2010 House, South Park and Family Guy. Agree totally, don't tend to get into the American hour long drama's (ie the wire, lost, 24 etc) but a housemate got me totally sucked in. Hugh Laurie is an absolute hero, plays the role fantastically. Also have to agree with all those that have mentioned Curb Your Enthusiasm, absolutely brilliant - especially when you consider the majority of it is unscripted. Deppo Posted 5 February, 2010 Share Posted 5 February, 2010 I’m watching the last few episodes of the final season of Deadwood. Brilliant stuff, almost Shakespearian in feel, but with regular nudity and a record-breaking use of the C word. Such a shame it got cancelled as it improved no end after a slightly underwhelming first season. Once its finished, my life will go back to being completely pointless. After all the other stuff I've seen...Lost, The Shield, Prison Break etc, I have to say that Deadwood is on a different plateau, up there with The Wire. A complete shame it got cancelled.
