Fowllyd Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Hopefully this will also put the clubs we are soon to play into a slightly more nervous state of mind :-) I reckon they were getting that way anyhow - but this will make it even more so. Great result, I'm just loving this!
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Well done lads...love it. Little stat i heard on solent today...20 goals in 7 away games:D is it true? Oh and +10 goal difference....
St Landrew Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Chris Temple on Radio Solent says Saints are in 14th place. What does he know that I don't..?
Red Alert Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Haha. lol at Jeff Stelling winding up Le Tiss "Saints on 22, only 2 points above the relegation zone despite their good run"
CanadaSaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Fantastic. We're clearly one of the top three sides in the division and we're really settling in with our formation after a lot of new player arrivals. The only downside right now is that we're on the verge of several suspensions, but hopefully we have enough depth to ride them out.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Fab win - still think play-offs might be a little too much for us this season - but hey, ya never know. Main thing is we're looking like a VERY attractive team and AP will almost certainly be able to bring in some top players in January to push on.
ART Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Come on without, come on within You ain't seen nothin' like the Mighty Saints. The Black Cats did it Palace did it. Now the mighty Saints are doing it. Bottom to top, In one big hop. The Saints are doing it The Saints are back in town. In Pardieu I now trust. In Pardieu I now trust.Pardieu's got our mojo working, he's got the XFactor Absolutely brilliant stuff from the lads. Pardieu has brought the pleasure back into following football, in following Saints. The Saints are doing it The Saints are back in town!
Belgiansaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 We may only be 2 points above the relegation zone, but the GD is massive. Only those clubs in the top 5 have a better GD. Even a Brighton / Oldham win with Saints losing would still, however annoying, leave us in a relatively non too unfavourable situation.
Rebel Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 I'm a believer! a good December on the pitch and a good January transfer window off the pitch and I think we'll be looking at a play-off place
Mr Saints Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 In the words of Alan Partridge, "lovely stuff." Must aim for play offs now, full credit to Pards and his coaching staff.
saintsmike25 Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Will Alpine give us some much needed positivity to comment on "hm no clean sheet must do better" We can't get complacent though, we have Tranmere and need to push on, NEXT TARGET top 10.
WGC Saint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Over the moon with yet another 3-1 win (you just knew when it went 3-0 they'd pull one back). I have to keep pinching myself. We've not had such a good run since the good old days of the 80's. Looking forward to the Colchester away game now - that's the next fixture I can get to!
Matthew Le God Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Fab win - still think play-offs might be a little too much for us this season . Why? Basically we are already in the playoffs(form wise over the season so far) if you add the 10 points back and that was with a very slow start to the League. 9 points over 26 games to catch some lets be honest poor sides above us is very possible.
altoniansaints Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 well now 9pts off top 6 but that must equal 10 wins in reality the climb up the top half will be slower than the bottom half! next target is surley top half (12) then top ten but hay. Still would feel better when we have a gap of over 3pts to the bottom 4 as as it stands we could be back in it with one more "off" day. COYR
Thedelldays Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Why? Elmore Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Fantastic result. 3-1 away from home against another in-form team. Play-offs are a real possibility now!
benjii Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Disgusting that an admod should title a sticky thread like this.
brmbrm Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Is this really my team???? Next game. Concentrate on the next game.
Saints foreva Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Had a very bad feeling about this game, but it sounded like we played awesome. I really can't remember the last time I enjoyed Southampton Football Club this much. Markus Liebherr - You will FOREVER be a hero in my eyes, thank you for everything you have done. Surely a big attendance is in order for Tranmere? OWTS!
Red&White Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Just opened a bottle of my fav tipple (Glenmorangie ) to celebrate ! Great result COYR

Basically we are already in the playoffs(form wise over the season so far) if you add the 10 points back and that was with a very slow start to the League. 9 points over 26 games to catch some lets be honest poor sides above us is very possible. Absolutely. If [and yes it is a BIG IF] Pardew had been able to come in and get his team sorted earlier, Saints would almost certainly be in the play-off places now. Remember how we struggled to reel off the -10 points..? That was down to the new regime having to get its feet under the table. Remove that 10 point penalty, and have this form from the start, and we'd be around the top of the table.
benjii Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 I wonder what odds you can get on Saints to be promoted at the moment? Probably worth a fiver!
corsacar saint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Absolutely delighted, it is getting better and better. Do agree the title thread as it is does not look right.
Lazlo78 Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Whooops someone opened a bottle of red - mmm yes please. Another 3-1 win and by the sound of it we were well on top of them (aka. "absolutely dominating" ). Today none of the loanees were playing which is good and bad. Bad for obvious reasons. Good because it means that today we've seen that we can actually play well with players that are contracted to SFC. In other words, we're not necessarily screwed if the loans do not work out in our favour... Looking forwards to hearing more details about individual players today!
CanadaSaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Absolutely. Remove that 10 point penalty, and have this form from the start, and we'd be around the top of the table. Dead right, Andy. Dean Wilkins talked about the impact of a complete lack of confidence within the club, and about how long it took to change that. Now we've seen a total reversal of that, and it's reflected in their style and the results. We can't knock the ball around the way we do without a high level of self-belief. Although they'll never say it, AP and Co must think that missing the playoffs would be a major failure.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Why? Basically we are already in the playoffs(form wise over the season so far) if you add the 10 points back and that was with a very slow start to the League. 9 points over 26 games to catch some lets be honest poor sides above us is very possible. There are many reasons why we might not do it this season...e.g. lots of games to play before we get a sniff of the play-off places, not all teams above us will roll-over and lose, the higher we climb the harder it gets, we've got a few players close to suspension, we have to play Leeds away before year-end which might affect continuity if we lose. Look - its possible, but there are significant issues to overcome before its a nailed on cert IMO. If we can get to year-end with the team intact and AP gets backing to spend in January it might look more possible to me.
.comsaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 The League 1 table tonight. Looking good! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/table/default.stm
Poshie72 Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Over the moon.. another great win by Saints.
Thedelldays Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Although they'll never say it, AP and Co must think that missing the playoffs would be a major failure. and rightly so...I want our club to think like this whilst we are in league 1.. and should we just miss out...anything other than top 2 NEXT season would be a failure... promotion and winning is everything...sod the cups, we need to get out of league 1 as soon as possible

With our previous form and style of play the play off's were too far away. Pardew has been trying various formations in midfield to get Connolly, Lallana and Lambert into the formation and still have a midfield that stands up to the opposition. With Murty coming back and putting James in midfield, along with Morgan growing a pair, Pardew seems to have taken big steps in that direction. I have always believed if he could do it we would really take off, what I was not sure of whether it was possible with the players we had. Everything now looks very bright if we can keep this going.

Isn't there an amnesty if you get to somepoint in December without actually getting suspended, or is that just in the Premier?
Arizona Posted 5 December, 2009 Author Posted 5 December, 2009 Another bonus, at least we wont have retarded opposition fans saying "they're in the bottom 4 for a reason FFS!" any more, after we hammer them.
VectisSaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 (edited) right, we now have to beat tranmere...could be top half by end of next week You're right of course Edited 5 December, 2009 by VectisSaint Maths let me down
WealdSaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Is'nt it fun being a saints fan at the moment............thankyou Mr Liebner!
Cabrone Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Really pleased with a win against a team chasing the playoffs themselves. Connoly and Lambert are starting to look like the most deadly strikeforce in the division. It's been a real slog all season but now for the first time the players must be looking at the table and thinking play offs are a serious proposition. I know I am.
brianoneils slidingtackle Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Everyone get to the Tranmere game and show the lads some support, I'm loving the weekends this last couple of months, but I've got no excuse to kick the cat :-)
Rod Le Shearer Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 If you want we can dig out the "we will walk this league" threads from 05/06, 06/07, 07/08 and 08/09. why not ? Right now,we ARE walking this league
mcjwills Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Everyone get to the Tranmere game and show the lads some support, I'm loving the weekends this last couple of months, but I've got no excuse to kick the cat :-) Just imagine the wifes having an affair and kick the cat anyway
SNSUN Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 I said six points at the start of the week, and we got it. That's the important thing. We may not have kept a clean sheet again, but 3-1 is fast becoming my favourite ever result. The same old names on the scoresheet too, it's refreshing to see strikers do what they're paid to do! (Sorry Saga...) The League table looks amazing. To think that this is the first time this season that we would have been in the play-offs had we not had points deducted is a great feeling - and as has already been said, we're only 9 points off that all important (and seemingly very achievable) play-off spot even with the deduction. Will the wheels fall off? Right now, it doesn't feel like it, and let's not think too much into that. I hope Saints can give us a very rosy Christmas indeed.
Jackie@home Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Absolutely brilliant. Walsall had only lost at home to Leeds before and were on a great home run. We are now the leading scorers away from home.
SNSUN Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Everyone get to the Tranmere game and show the lads some support, I'm loving the weekends this last couple of months, but I've got no excuse to kick the cat :-) My parrot has no need to fear me anymore. Saints good form is certainly a blessing for pets. I think the RSPCA should present us with some sort of award...
saintant Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Leading scorers in the division away from home, long time since we were banging in goals on the road. Superb win today, well done the lads.
Judge_B Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Funnily enough, I didn't think we were that great todaay. Which isn't a problem, I don't mind winning like that. Connelly was fantastic, Perry and Bart look vulnerable, which probably isn't news to anyone. Walsall fans must have got in for free, didn't seem to want to be there...
stknowle Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Confident predictions can come back to bite you quite quickly (ask my Brighton supporting workmate who laughed long and hard on the Monday following my ****sure Friday statement that we would cane them), but I have to say that given our form, our squad, our position, our financial clout, the standard of the opposition, and the number of games left we should and will make the playoffs this season. Once there we will have to overcome one of Leeds, Norwich, or Charlton and if we do we will be promoted.
SuperSAINT Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Great result. I think after the last game, we were saying that this would be a real tough game, and we've done it in real style, by all accounts. We really seem to be able to put teams away on our travels. I'm not getting carried away yet, but the table is looking MUCH better now. (Important for potential players to see that we're climbing the table for the window too, I feel). So onwards we go, by the end of December, if we can be within 6 points of the play-off's, I'll be well chuffed.
CanadaSaint Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Funnily enough, I didn't think we were that great todaay. Which isn't a problem, I don't mind winning like that. Connelly was fantastic, Perry and Bart look vulnerable, which probably isn't news to anyone. Walsall fans must have got in for free, didn't seem to want to be there... I think that the back row could be strong with someone like the Perry of five years ago playing alongside Jaidi, but his age is working against him now. He reads things quite well but lacks the speed we need to counter Jaidi's lack of it. Bart worries me. He was shaping up so well at one point but seems to have very fragile confidence. One mistake, or near-mistake, and he becomes dodgy and unreliable. Forget him coming for crosses. Not the ideal situation when combined with a lack of decisiveness in the middle of the back four. Hopefully, KD will be back early but the only alternative is to cure Bart's head problems or spend money on a keeper in the window.
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Isn't there an amnesty if you get to somepoint in December without actually getting suspended, or is that just in the Premier? This season it's December 31st for 5 yellows. Amnesty periods for 10 and 15 are the same as before - whenever they were. Great result! I'm not sure if I'd rather we won 2-0 or whether it really matters.
