Matthew Le God Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 We need another right back We have James, Murty and Thomas for right back, that is more than enough for League One.
S-Clarke Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 I think we lack depth more than quality. Up front we have Connolly and Lambert, but other than that? Saga? Pato? We need another right back and centre half IMO. Also a defensive midfielder in the Pele mould. spot on IMO. Our first 11 when fully fit is very very good for this level, bar maybe just 1 addition. but as you said, if we lose lambo then what? Or Lallana...hammond....morgan? we're really struggling then for real quality replacements. that's what leeds have over us atm, they have real depth on the bench, with prutton, micheal doyle, vokes etc.
Arizona Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 We have James, Murty and Thomas for right back, that is more than enough for League One. James is a promising midfielder but a poor RB. Murty is 35. Neither is a long term solution. If we don't get a younger, proper RB in we could be in danger of repeating our last 2 years in the Prem. Instead of Dodd and Telfer we have Murty and James. One minute everythings fine, but all of a sudden Dodd/Murty is old and injured and James/Telfer just isn't good enough. Personally I'd rather get in early and have someone pushing Murty for the RB. Rather than doing things the old Saints way, which is persevering with inadequate players for 6 months before admitting we have an issue. Same at CB. Jaidi and Perry may be okay now, but we need to be thinking of replacements for them now, then we don't have a problem next season. We don't want any more Wayne Thomas panic buys like we had 2 years ago.
hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2009 Share Posted 8 December, 2009 We should get a rb over the summer. Concentrate in Jan on the immediate problems such as a striker, a cb and a dm and see about a rb if we have time.
NickG Posted 8 December, 2009 Share Posted 8 December, 2009 Nick do you really think we have the best 11 for league one the best player in every position ? No, but I couldn't pick better due to my lack of knowledge of this league - could have easily done it in prem. would be surprised if we could (within this league) improve on several positions. West End Saint Posted 8 December, 2009 Share Posted 8 December, 2009 Get a Right back for cover for Murty a centre back Trotters would do for me a decent holding centre midfielder with a bit of experience and a target man for cover for Rickiee Bin off Gillett Pulis and the rest of the deadwood that arent in AP's plans I reckon you could get decent players in for about 2.5m + what we get for selling the duffers

Bringing in 4 players isn't beyond the realms of possibility, especially if we can shift a few of the duds on to another club. Pardew will have had a good five months to do his homework, no reason he shouldn't have targets lined up for ALL our weak spots.

Considering 6 players have been mentioned as a number then we should certainly consider that Pards wants to get a Championship standard/competitive squad in time for next season. As such, 4 players in the summer would be dependant on where we finish at the end of this season.

The9 Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 I'd quite like us to sign Alex Pearce (back) from Reading, assuming they're as skint as it sounds like they are. He seems to be one of their few performers and he looked decent for us. Trotman had a couple of decent games but started to look dodgy and Jaidi is leagues ahead of him. I don't think we should even extend the loan unless we completely fail to get another CB in permanently. I'd also sign Antonio on a permanent, and start trying to recruit some of the players from the Swiss U-17 World Champions who aren't already with big clubs. And a striker to give Lambert a break and provide a target when he's not there / annoyingly out on the wing crossing it.

Whitey Grandad Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 Ask a silly question... not that I don't think that question asked by the OP was in itself silly, but somebody had to come back with the obvious. The universe had halted in it's tracks and couldn't get going again until we'd had the obvious answer. Myself, I'd hang on to most of the money until next season
Tom28 Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 Adam Le Fondre looks a quality striker at Rotherham. They only signed him in August though so might be difficult to sign him. He has 17 goals already this season which is a decent return and some his finishes have been class. Only 23 too so he's a decent age. I dont think we need a lot - if we can tie up deals for Trotman and Antonio that would be good, extend Mellis, and maybe add one long term signing, it'd be a decent January. Moritz Volz - find it strange he still doesnt have a club - might be worth a trial at least. I don't think James, Murty or Thomas are long term options at right back.
