itchen_dan Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 I think we need a younger right-back, someone like Ifil who we had on loan from Spurs a few years back (now at Colchester I believe?) He scored last night against Brighton in their 2-1 win Really rated him whilst he was down here, able to put in a decent cross and could get back in time to defend
greg_hill Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 Can't suggest any names but we need a replacement for Murty, cover for Lambert and Connelly and a centre back.
positivepete Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 I suspect the money will go towards keeping more clean sheets, this seems the main goal for AP at the moment. The Tranmere RB looked good today.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 I always liked Prutts when he played for us, however I've no idea what he's been like for Leeds in recent years. Whenever I've seen him play for Leeds on TV he's looked like he's lost a few yards in pace, and I only ever see him getting booked or sent off. I wouldn't moan if we signed him, I'd more more than happy for us to give him a chance. Don't think he'd get into our first team though. I think he still owns property down here too doesn't he? yes, he also has just had a little baby girl with Jen who is the daughter of ex saint Brian O Neil, all southampton based. SuperMikey Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 Priorities have to be a new RB, Murty is crocked and James won't be good enough to play at CCC imo. What about Kerrea Gilbert on loan from Arsenal? Played against Olympiakos the other night, looked quite assured. Would be a good move for him as well, because he's not exactly first choice right back at the Emirates at the moment. We'll have Wilshere and Ramsey too thanks Arsene! I think we also need to be looking at CB and ST for the January window. Trotman has done well so far this season, but if Perry is playing ahead of him at the moment then he's obviously not indispensable to the club. Jaidi is getting on a bit as well, he's 33/34 so how for long will he realistically be able to play 90 minutes, week in, week out? I've heard good things about Gavin Gunning at Blackburn, he's supposed to be a good prospect for them. However, he's only 5'10, so we need to be looking for a bit more height and strength at the back to replace Jaidi within the next few years (or maybe even at the end of the season). Holmar Eyjolfsson is worth a look at imo, he's not had much luck at West Ham with the likes of Upson staking claim to their centre back positions, but I quite rate him. He's versatile as well, and can play in front of the back four or in central midfield. Could be a handy loan in january to cover injuries and a fresh pair of legs in a team that have been fighting like dogs this season to climb the table. As for striker, this might be a long shot, but what about James Vaughan from Everton? He was on loan at Derby earlier in the season but got injured and went back. They want him back on loan, but as far as I know nothing has been agreed yet. He's young, pacy and strong too according to my Everton supporting mate. Patterson still isn't quite ready for me, and it's obvious that Saganowski can't be arsed to try and Pardew can't be arsed to put up with him, so he'll be gone in Jan. Vaughan could come in and bag a few vital goals for us, and he'd be a great signing imo!
corsacar saint Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 We need a right back, centre half, a ball winning and passing midfielder, and another forward. I would personally like to see - Phil Ifill, Eliot Ward, Lee Barnard and Brian Howard.[ Any one or more of those would be great]. Mind you when AP was interviewed after the game tonight he said that he was reluctant to upset the apple cart, as the players all get on so well, and new signings could upset the team spirit as a whole. I hope this was just the managers way of not wanting to release any names to the media and trying to avoid answering the question.
Chez Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 We need a right back, centre half, a ball winning and passing midfielder, and another Let me solve that for you: RB Shaleum Logan (Man City) CB Simon King (Gillingham), David McCracken (Wycombe) CM Kevin Nicholls (Luton), Stephen Dawson (Bury) SF Simeon Jackson (Gillingham) we also need cover for LM IMO. I can't think of one.

The Tranmere RB looked good today. agreed, he - Shaleum Logan - is the best right back I've seen at SMS since Kyle Naughton. Tremendous player and this will be his only season in League 1. Not sure Man City will allow him to leave as he's highly rated by them. Its a season long loan at Tranmere.
Wilko Posted 12 December, 2009 Share Posted 12 December, 2009 I can tell you all that a Saints scout was at the Memorial Stadium today. I didn't get a chance to ask him who he was looking at, but he was gone by the 70th minute. Of all the lot on show, I reckon Jeff Hughes and Chris Lines CDAJFU. RonManager Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 I keep mentioning him and now it's going to happen, Reno Gattuso is leaving AC Milan in January. Arse - he's just signed with AC Milan until 2012. Looks like a loan then!

Thedelldays Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 Simon Cox at WBA hasn't settled as well as they'd have liked. Cheeky loan-to-buy bid, perhaps?
Andy_Porter Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 It's a strange feel that I'm actually looking forward to January and the transfer window for once. I think it will be quite a busy window with 5+ out and three or four in. Be interesting to see which calibre of player we can attract now we're looking likely for a play off spot. SuperSAINT Posted 14 December, 2009 Share Posted 14 December, 2009 I can't actually believe that Nicholls is still at Luton! - He was a TOP player a couple of years ago. Speaking of top players, did anyone catch Simeone Jackson's goal against Huddersfield on saturday? Top finish. Sign him up.

Rory Posted 15 December, 2009 Share Posted 15 December, 2009 Not sure if it's been mentioned but Lukas Jutkiewicz has been banging them in for fun for Motherwell this season (on loan from Everton). He's a Southampton lad as well, so might be worth looking at a similar loan deal?
