Are just outside the play off places, have a slightly better home record than us, and have just had a good midweek result at Yeovil.

A tough test awaits us Saturday, and as all our league games against teams in higher league positions than Walsall have failed to deliver a win, this game could be a good gauge as to where we are.

If Connolly is back then I'll go with our favourite 3-1 scoreline. It'll be like the Bristol Rovers away game in the cup....easier than we expected it to be.

No reason why we should even contemplate not winning. We are better than them. Just look at the teams before the game and man for man you will see.

 

Walsall have a terrible home following, have a lot of stay away fans. A bit pathetic considering they haven't been getting relegated recently (in fact, they were promoted in 2008!!!)

 

If we play half decent and don't make any silly mistakes we will beat them.

We played Huddersfield and Bristol Rovers before we clicked (we then beat Rovers in the Cup), and Norwich and Charlton are the pick of the league and neither of them could beat us. I think we drew with Colchester early on as well.

 

I dont see your point, to be honest. I think we can win.

Its going to be a tough game but one we have to win if we want top 6.

 

I've got a Walsall supporting friend (who i'll be seeing on sat evening) and he said that they are built on defence.

 

Sounds like they'll be a tough nut to crack but once opened we should be ok.

Every team needs to be approached with respect, but I feel Walsall's form/position in the table currently make them look better than they actually are. Take a look at a selection of their forthcoming games, I can't see them being able to maintain either form or position:

 

Southampton (h) 5th december

Millwall (a) 12th december

Bristol Rovers (a) 26th december

Norwich (h) 28th december

Charlton (h) 2nd january

Leeds(a) 23rd january

 

Still they could beat us on the day, so as I said, hope the team approach them with respect.

 

Interestingly, this Walsall thread suggests that Hants Police will be in attendance, as we have been taking an element of trouble makers to away games:

As we saw on Tuesday, there are many factors at work and in the end it is TEAM performance on the day that counts. On our day we can indeed beat most of this divison, on the other hand if it's not 'our day' we struggle against even the bottom clubs.

 

I hope the new found solidity of defence was not a one-off freak occurrence, if the back line play as well on Saturday as they did on Tuesday at least we will have a basis for at least a draw. What concerns me most is how all of our younger lads and most of the older ones as well were well and truly knackered by 75 minutes on Tuesday.

 

If those conditions prevail again - the weather forecast is not good for Saturday - then we might be totally ****ged and off the pace from the start. In which case expect a long ball afternoon, a scrappy match and probably a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline if we're lucky.

 

At the back of my mind is concern over the inevitable sigh of relief from our players at being out of the bottom four, if the lads go to sleep on the back of that there is a clear and present danger we'll be 2-0 down in a flash and out of it. It has to be 100% concentration from ko and I am not so sure our lads will be fit enough to do it.

We've won 1 less point than them this season including the -10 and given that we had a shaky start to the season with everything up in the air you would say we're definately the better team. Now we're fully on our feet we should be able to beat anyone in this league. Happy Days ;)

I used to teach one of their defenders, Manny Smith, back when he was 8, including football lessons. So he can't be that good, I'm rubbish. He used to play alongside Ben Turner who's now at Coventry and was also in my class. Come to think of it I must be the best defensive coach ever. Or something.

Just bought my Norwhich ones. THAT will be a test of ability.

 

Oh yeah I'll go to that too. I just mean that Walsall are on a run like we are and are on roughly the same points as us. It would be a great one to win because we will gain on them and they are the type of team we need to be beating to get the playoffs.

This makes quite interesting reading.Over the last 12 games our current form is considerably better than their home form and as I have said on another thread ,theyhave not played many top teams at home lately.

Having said that we need to keep our defensive side of the game up to scratch and take opportunities when they arise.

I think if DC is fit it will be a big bonus for us although we can score from all over the pitch I feel he is the one to "sniff out" the half chances that could make a difference.

I feel we can win but I wouldnt be to disappointed with a draw, 0-0 would be nice if we got to draw.

Thats a really interesting site... Encouraging to see that we are third best in form for the league over last 12 games. great stuff...

 

The league table on that site shows Gillingham on same points as us though, which isnt right....

I expect we are much better than them and if we play to 80 or 90% will win comfortably.

We beat MK Dons who were in the play-off places at the time. Also when we beat Southend and Oldham they were both up and around where Walsall are now, and are probably about on par with them imo. Nevertheless this is going to be a big test, they have only lost at home once in the league this season I believe.

Going to be a tough game, no doubt.

We can easily beat them though, like we should beat anyone. Will be a fantastic confidence boost for Leeds if we get 3 points.

If we lose it won't be through over confidence, it will be because Walsall played better than us. They've lost one home game, to Leeds, and they were winning that one with ten minutes to go.

 

Tough game, but we have a secret weapon. I am going with my wife and she has never seen Saints lose away. Mind you she's only been to two games: 0-0 and 6-0 at Wolves.

I'l be there at Walsall on saturday as I've never been there before as I've been to Wolves, WBA, Birmingham n Aston Villa!

Getting the coach up to the game and OK we only beat Wycombe 1-0 I'm feeling confident that we'l get a result and win by the odd goal either 1-0 or 2-1 but more than that would also be good!

As plastic pitches have been banned in English competitive football since the early 1990s, I'm guessing not.

 

Though there are a load of third generation pitches in use in various countries and UEFA/FIFA readily acknowledge that some Russian and Scandinavian teams wouldn't have a season without them, and hybrid grass/plastic fibres are now part of most top-level pitches to aid the integrity of the surface, I suspect your dream wouldn't have been that detailed.

Went to Walsall's website, clicked on "directions", loaded Google Maps then typed "pub" into the search... one of those.

 

 

The nearest pub, the King George V i think, is a 15 minute walk away.

Liverpool Saints out in force. And yes, I am forcing the junior scousers to come. And no, I still haven't taken them to see their mum's preferred Reds (spit!).
