Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 (edited) wow now for da playoffs innit Edited 1 December, 2009 by Glasgow_Saint
Lazlo78 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 Looking at the league table the next "big" target (we have had 'first win', 'positive points', 'free of relegation zone' as earlier big targets) should be the 11th spot. Hartlepool in 11th spot is only 4 points away while Swindon in 10th spot are 9 points away (with two games in hand). Now this season could have anything in store for us but moving up to 11th over christmas would be immense. Then we'd have to see how far away 6th spot is by then and make our aim acccordingly...

What's so special about 11th place ?
doggface Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 When you put it like that it is shocking. I now see what pardew meant by talking about mental barriers.
a1ex2001 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 What's so special about 11th place ? my thoughts entirely 12th is the next target ie the top half, play offs after that!

John B Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 my thoughts entirely 12th is the next target ie the top half, play offs after that! We need to be beating the teams in the play off area something we have failed to do much this season. So lets see how we do against Walsall
crouchi Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 Hard games coming up. It will be very tough to keep out of the relegation zone, let alone move up the table. Walsall is a must win. HaHa!
Colinjb Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 What a weight off our minds it is, not just out, but 2 points clear. And we can push on further, only a couple of points gap from mid table, and then the playoffs.... they are attainable!!!
krissyboy31 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 We need to be beating the teams in the play off area something we have failed to do much this season. So lets see how we do against Walsall We haven't done too badly. Beat MK, drew with Charlton, Colchester and Norwich. Still Wallsall won't be easy on their patch and they have won more points than us (30 to our 29), so it will be a test!
Dr Who? Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 I think we just need to not fall back in their come Saturday or a week on Friday!! I think after taking 3 tries to get out of dreaded bottom four, to fall back in there in a matter of day could have a huge impact! Walsall are no push over these days!!
RedWillie Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 Walsall will be tough, even with our missing 10 points they would be above us and are currently playing confidently
Webby Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 I think we'll be top half by the end of Jan, and there's still a long way to go after that!
Johnny Bognor Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 We are now nearer the top half (4 points) than the bottom place (5 points). As said previously, top half the next target. COYR
Rut Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 Great to get out of the bottom 4. I'd have thought we would be higher in this table: http://www.mikeavery.co.uk/AllTeamLeagueTable.htm At least we are above P*mpey and Totton are top though...
Lazlo78 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 When was the last time we were out of the relegation zone? I remember Doncaster and Nott.Forest being miles behind us and beating us last season. But were we above the relegation zone at that point?
pap Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 Good show lads. Bring on Walsall. Going to be a good game. Two in-form teams.
madsent Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 When was the last time we were out of the relegation zone? I remember Doncaster and Nott.Forest being miles behind us and beating us last season. But were we above the relegation zone at that point? We fell into the relegation zone on 28th December 2008 after the 1-1 draw with Reading at St Mary's and stayed there despite 14 points from the 9 games following that game. It's a great relief that we've managed to get out of the relegation zone before Christmas after being 12 points off safety earlier in the season.

I looked around a bit but to no avail...
Saint J 77 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 It feels so great to be out of the drop zone, I just hope we stay out of it from now on. Walsall will be a tough game, but the way results have been going of late I would expect at least a point from it, hopefully more though! On another note I was just looking at the league table on the BBC website and noticed there is no asterisk by our points total to note that we have had 10 points deducted. No wonder why some of lazy Press think we are so bad, they even realise we have had the points deducted
Saint J 77 Posted 1 December, 2009 Posted 1 December, 2009 I meant to say " No wonder why some of lazy Press think we are so bad, they DON'T even realise we have had the points deducted "
Jimmy_D Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 next target should be to reduce the distance to the playoffs to less than 10 points, so that we've made some ground on them compared to the start of the season...
Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Walsall will be a tough, tough game. If we play there like we did tonight we will lose for sure and could drop back down into the R zone. There is absolutely no room for complacency or error now. There is still lots of work to be done and we will need new decent players in January to make the push upwards sustainable. There are no guarantees in this league for a team that started on -10pts unfortunately.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Gratz to pardew the players and of course our new owner. For me that marks the end of the last effects from the lowe feck up that was last season. Onwards and upwards coyrs! What he said

alpine_saint Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Brilliant news. Now we can fight on a level playing field.
rallyboy Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 that is a great stat, so we spent nearly all of 2009 in relegation zones? I thought it just felt like we did. If we can keep this momentum and continue climbing that will be real progress and a sign that we have finally buried the ghosts of the past.
SaintDonkey Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 ranked below ipswich ffs, pardew out It includes the minus ten - without it we'd be up around the 150 mark instead of 305. Just about level with the mighty Eastleigh
oggiee Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 In the relegation zone for 337 days!!! Feels great to be out
SaintRichmond Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Gratz to pardew the players and of course our new owner. For me that marks the end of the last effects from the lowe feck up that was last season. Onwards and upwards coyrs! With respect, NO ... IMHO, We still carry the last of the "effects", the -10 Without that, we'd be nicely placed to make the play offs After last night, we are now 12 points from 6th Still achievable, but methinks we have dropped too many points:)
SaintRichmond Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Brilliant news. Now we can fight on a level playing field. Still with the -10 ..... how is that "level" It is a season long HANDICAP FFS Getting the -10 recinded would be "a level playing field":)
rick1976.4.38 Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 lowe era over, onwards and upwards, what a great feeling to be out of the bottom 4
Marsdinho Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 I heard in Sky Sports last night that we have dropped 13 points this season from a winning position, add that the the -10. We would be 2nd, 3 points behind Leeds. Thats football I suppose.

Marsdinho Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Was thinking that myself. Next summer we really need to do everything we can to make sure we get a good start to the campaign. Every year we start slowly.
SaintRichmond Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Was thinking that myself. Next summer we really need to do everything we can to make sure we get a good start to the campaign. Every year we start slowly. The FIRST task being getting REPLACEMENTS for the players that LEAVE because we are still in DIV 1 Not a moan, just a plain simple Reality check:cool:
JackFrost Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 without the deduction we'd be 9th. It's a case of continuing this good form, working our way up the table and making a late bid for the play-offs If we can sneak into the play-offs I'll think we'll have a great chance

rick1976.4.38 Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 if they can see what ap is doing and that next season is really the promotion push we will be looking at,i dont see why any will leave.they can see what the future is at saints and its bloody good in my opinion, coyr
SaintRichmond Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Who would you expect to leave in the summer. Lallana, Lambert,Schneiderlin,Waigo,Antonio,Mellis,Trotman,Davis I'm not saying they will ALL leave, but rthey would certainly NOT want to remain in Div 1, and most ARE CCC material IMHO
Marsdinho Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 Lallana, Lambert,Schneiderlin,Waigo,Antonio,Mellis,Trotman,Davis I'm not saying they will ALL leave, but rthey would certainly NOT want to remain in Div 1, and most ARE CCC material IMHO Do you think they joined / stayed because (despite the -10 points) they thought we were definitley going to go up this year. Im sure they were realistic enough to realise that promotion was very difficult THIS year. Therefore, Im sure most of the players will be happy to stay during the summer (if a bigger team dont come in for them)

Therefore, Im sure most of the players will be happy to stay during the summer (if a bigger team dont come in for them) With respect, I beg to differ I think all the players joined thinking that Promotion this season WAS a possibility, even allowing for the -10 points As has been pointed out, add on the stupid points we have dropped, and we would be currently 9th or 10th The REALITY is that we are currently 20th I am still of the opinion that come the close season, Pardew will have to REBUILD after some of the current Squad move on:cool:
rick1976.4.38 Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 saintrichmond you always seem to have a negative on saints, look on the bright side occassionaly.
saint_stevo Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 i think maybe Lallana and Schneiderlin may move on, but the rest should be around to give it a good go at promotion next season
S-Clarke Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 I wouldn't expect Lambert to leave, he can achieve all his goals here tbh.
saint_stevo Posted 2 December, 2009 Posted 2 December, 2009 I wouldn't expect Lambert to leave, he can achieve all his goals here tbh. This. Altho if we dont go up next year, he may start to wonder...
