I like the idea of getting Ron to do some which can be enlarged and hung round the concourse. That way everyone can enjoy his work and not just a few. Ron might also feel that he's still contributing to the club in some way.

This is an absolutely brilliant idea. Everyone can then enjoy his talents, (However the club should remunerate Ron appropriately for this. Perhaps some of his existing caricatures, like Tim's one of Danny could be used, with Ron being paid a separate public display fee.)

Just a quick heads-up, Ron has started on his first piece. Someone sent a pretty nice request for their father who has been a huge Ron fan since his was a kid. So let's see how this goes...maybe I could post a shot of it with their approval, so that we can share the quality of Ron's art.

Full length...

Oh dear. That is terrible. No good at all. Back to the drawing board for Ron I think before he can start selling these. The proportions are all wrong. His left arm is half the length of his right arm and his right wrist takes up most of his forearm. He has not even bothered with the right knee and the sock on that leg looks like a wizard's sleeve. The badge is wonky and don't get me started on the head - it is far too big for the body and nobody's lips are that big!

All a matter of taste mate, what about you critical art appraisal of these http://www.giveittoron.co.uk/caricatures.htm Well I guess you wouldn't want one Ron's pieces then and that's fair enough. Let's face it y'average Picasso has 6 t!ts.

Just as a quick heads-up it's called a caricature, a rough definition of caricature is = A caricature can refer to a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness....Is that recognisable as Danny Wallace? Yeah, thought so.

Way, way back when I was a lad there was a thought of producing Rod's drawings on small metal cards. A sample was manufactured I believe, I don't know for what reason but I remember being told that it wasn't going ahead. One of my Aunties knew Ron I think and came upon some of these metal cards and passed them on to me as a young Saints fan. I'm pretty sure that these metal cards were of the 1970 Saints and Arsenal team's (who were of course the double winners that perhaps that's why they were also produced).

Has anyone heard of these or perhaps own some as well?

I'll try and find them in the loft and post some pics of them on here when I get five mins if anyone is interested.

Deano, you're joking of course. Ron has never claimed to be Michaelangelo. This is a caricature, and goodness me! Danny's head is too big! Whatever next! Gerald Scarfe, Steadman, Riddell, Steve Bell, Martin Rowson, Low, Bateman, Vicky, Gillray, you and your mates have been doing it all wrong all these years. You should not be exaggerating features. Deano says so.

No Deano, Ron's drawing in a non-serious way and with some deft pen and ink-work successfully captures the living essence of the man. Pretty well.

I assume this is meant to be a joke based on the Ted Bates statue fiasco.

To be fair, I quite like the Danny Wallace picture, it is supposed to be a characature afterall. Better than I could do! I've had a a couple of goes myself to do Danny but I find the hands the most difficult...

..still you all have to admit the one of Iain Dowie (bottom left) isn't bad.

Now you do realise, Robbie, that cartoonists cannot but draw themselves (bottom right).......

One of our, excellent and regular posters on here had this to say (below). He had 'commisioned' Ron to do a picture as a Christmas gift for his father. His dad had been cruelly laid off just before the holidays after a long, loyal service to his employer.

"Happy New Year to you. I hope all's well over there.

When the picture arrived Dad was speechless when he saw it. He couldn't believe Ron had actually drawn it for him. The likeness is pretty striking. It's going to be given pride of place..."

He is thrilled with the picture and it's quality.

Happy New Year to everyone from Ron!!
