aintforever Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 If we reach the play-offs it's only a 1 in 4 chance so you have to say promotion is unlikely. Very possible though.

If we get into the play off's, it will mean that we have played such good football that even Leeds would not be rated any greater favourites in that group. Practically, if we reached the play off's our odds would be more like 3/4.

Possible? Yes of course, but catching up on the sh*t teams at the bottom is the easy bit. You seem to be forgetting that, even in spite of our fantastic form over the last 10-odd league games, we are still 9 points off the bottom playoff spot. We have only gained one point on the playoff teams after starting 10 behind. Our form is great, I am loving being a Saints fan, but I am not about to get fixated on promotion when it is going to be a monumental uphill struggle. To get into the playoffs we will need to average automatic promotion for for the season. I can't think of a team which has ever won 1 of their first 10 league games and finished in the top 2 of ANY league. The JPT hypothesis is like asking would you rather nail Kelly Brook senseless or have a few lagers in front of the TV. We all know which we'd rather do, but come 10:30 this evening will you be heading for the fridge or boarding a plane to LA?

Our odds would probably be the same as Norwich's or Huddersfield's. the play-offs are a lottery, one dodgy penalty and a freak own goal and you're out - as we proved before

Promotion is possible - especially if we have a nice morale boosting JPT win. Don't sacrifice a chance of silverware for the league, the effect on morale cannot be underestimated.

To be insight of the top 6 (-10 not withstanding) IS an achievement and although I agree our progress up the table is likely to slow once we get round the 12th mark... we can and will pick those teams off. Also bear in mind that our GD will help us pick off places 14 to 6 so as long as we have points parity we would alwayd have the advantage... not bad eh?

Well we're 15th now just 4 points behind Hartlepool in 11th.
Ian the Red Posted 5 December, 2009 Posted 5 December, 2009 Has to be the league. We are only 9 points off the play offs now. Let's face it we maintain our form and no one will want to play us. All we need to do is sort out our defence and stop conceding stupid goals. Clean sheet and 3 goals a game and we will be there. Frankly the JPT is a waste of time. All the effort to beat Charlton costs us 3 points against Brighton. FA Cup: would be nice to drawn against a prem team, Skates at St Marys, but let's face would we really win the cup? Another distraction. league must be our priority, we are good enough so let's go for it.

They have an outside chance of making the playoffs, along with every other team down to about 20th. As I said, to make the playoffs, we will need to average top 2 form over the season. I can't think of another team in history which has won 1 of their first 10 games and finished in the top 2 of any league. You will understand if I consider this a long shot. I would consider a day out at Wembley and a trophy equally rewarding and far more plausible
