Andy_Porter Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Yeah, inclined to agree with the whole Man City of League One analogy. As long as it's sustainable then we should keep it up. It quite obviously isn't sustainable, hence the analogy.
Sour Mash Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 We are the Southampton of League 1. Man City the Southampton of the Premier League?
Evil Monkey Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 It quite obviously isn't sustainable, hence the analogy. Thought you were working, you caaaant!!?!?!?
sadoldgit Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Please don't liken us to Man City. I would like to think we were the Southampton of Div 1 and have a bit more integrity.
Andy_Porter Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Thought you were working, you caaaant!!?!?!? Just been decking out my van, give you a ring in a bit wont be much longer xxx
Thedelldays Posted 9 January, 2010 Author Posted 9 January, 2010 Please don't liken us to Man City. I would like to think we were the Southampton of Div 1 and have a bit more integrity. why do we have more integrity..? what have city done that is so bad..?
fareham saint phil Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 What a difference 6-8 months makes we were getting cherrypicked of some decent players and now here we are in the strongest financial position in the league doing the same to other clubs. As far as Palace i have little time for jordan he taked a big game and certainly stuck the knife into us so i guess its "what goes around comes around" next hopefully barry hearn
Andy_Porter Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 why do we have more integrity..? what have city done that is so bad..? Gary Cook. Some of the **** he comes out with is embarassing, even if we're splashing the cash we don't have a **** head like Cook spouting ******** every five minutes.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 why do we have more integrity..? what have city done that is so bad..? This isn't particularly tactful and just an attempt to wind Man Utd and their fans up. Do you not agree Delldays?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 This isn't particularly tactful and just an attempt to wind Man Utd and their fans up. Do you not agree Delldays? Funny though! I liked it
RedAndWhite91 Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 It quite obviously isn't sustainable, hence the analogy. What I meant was, Cortese obviously knows what he is doing. If he can splash the cash, AND remain in the green financially with Liebherr's backing, then why not spend? As long as he can balance the outcome with income then it's no problem. It's not as if we're just dipping our hands into some filthy rich Arab, Cortese knows his limits, fund wise, from Liebherr, and he'd no doubt scrutinise the impact of every transfer that is undertaken. In that sense, if we can carry on with healthy finances after spending millions on players, then let it be.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Funny though! I liked it I didn't say it wasn't funny. Just not tactful.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 you know this, how..? Cortese is a businessman, put in charge of running the club by Liebherr. Was Cortese not a banker or something before becoming chairman? Of course, I don't know that stuff for a fact, I am assuming. I think it is safe to assume what I put though, Liebherr isn't going to just let Cortese use his money for whatever he wants is he? Hence the 'knows his limits' bit. As for the scrutinise bit, we know that they want to implement the 5 year plan and pace themselves with the spending, Cortese will no doubt know finance inside out. I know what I mean, I just can't word it very well.
Thedelldays Posted 9 January, 2010 Author Posted 9 January, 2010 I do know what you mean mate.. but lets not assume too much..maybe we are a plaything for markus...everyone assumes he wont throw the cash around..you only have to look at the start of this thread...when it seems we are spending very heavily for league 1, no matter how you slice it...even quite big for half of the CCC....

Yep I do agree, we have spent a lot. And looks as if there is more to come if you believe that Danns and Stock are on their way... It is a lot of money. I am just resting on the fact that Liebherr has said he is in it for the long haul, and if he is ok with his money being used in these transfers then it's fine by me.

Would be interesting to know if Leibherr is just giving the club the money like Man City or if it's interest free loans like Chelsea. He keeps banging on about everything being debt free so hopefully the transfer fees are just a case of him whipping out his cheque book.

John B Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 (edited) indeed..the proof will be when in the prem...the cost to get there will not be that great compared to staying there I wonder how much he has spent with largish gates no interest payments it may not be that much But in the Premiership as you say is a different situation Edited 9 January, 2010 by John B

I've raised this exact point on another thread, when comparing our position with, say Arsenal. Wenger is against spending big on players, perhaps at the cost of silverware in recent seasons. However, I think his stance is admirable as it is in th best interests of the club over the long term, especially with a mortgage of £300-odd million sat over them. That said, the current squad there wouldn't be incapable of going on and winning something given the relative weakness of the other "big four" teams this season. However, Arsenal will always be there or thereabouts in terms of a top-four placing each season, and that has to be their minimum aim. He is capable of brining the youngsters through to do that, hence no requirement for massive transfer spend. Whereas for Saints, we need to be out of L1 as quickly as possible and a group of youngsters ain't gonna work. It will be interesting to see the first set of accounts under the ML/NC era. It's clear that our gate receipts aren't sufficient to cover the outlay so far, let alone additional signings and the accounts (if there are any?) should show how ML has put the money in. Point to note, Abramovich recently agreed to convert the interest free loans to equity, hence why Chelsea was able to claim that it is now effectively debt-free.
saintds Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Here's another view point: http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,13320_5843604,00.html

I didn't realise Abramovich has done that, must be a huge burden of Chelsea's back if Abramovich does leave. Will we be publishing accounts under Leibherr? would be a good read for once.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 But surely you were even calling us "The Man City of League 1" when we were signing loan players or players like Murty and Antonio, TDD. Now we are actually flashing the cash shouldn't we be the Real Madrid of League 1?

Will we be publishing accounts under Leibherr? would be a good read for once. If Abromovic leaves he still owns the equity. Until such time a someone buys it. Alternatively, he can wait until the markets pick up in four/five years by when Chelsea might be Kings of Europe as well as the Kings Road, and then he can float at a profit.

According to Lenny Lawrence we trebled Ricky's salary. We did that months ago.
