View From The Top Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 What joy to have a "proper" full back on the right hand side of the pitch!
John B Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 (edited) Peter was a left back. He was mainly a RB and very quick too I think I saw him play his First Game for Cardiff City http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Rodrigues Edited 28 November, 2009 by John B
Nadia Sllim Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 1) Ian Turner 2) Peter Rodrigues 3) David Peach..................
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 I was quite impressed how quick Murty was. Maybe i'm too used to watching the rather slow James playing right back.
Toomer Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 1) Ian Turner 2) Peter Rodrigues 3) David Peach.................. I stand corrected and I was there in 76, senior moment.
jam Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 It's great, isn't it? And we've had a proper left back for the whole of the season too.
John B Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 It's great, isn't it? And we've had a proper left back for the whole of the season too. We have had a proper RB all season too unfortunately he has been injured
SFC Forever Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 Murty will possibly be amongst the contenders for man of the match on thesaintsfirm.net. I note on here how some people have quickly picked up on the feel good factor when he plays. Right now I feel he is an essential cog in our team. Davis was missed today but hopefully Tuesday will see Trotters back and then Bart may be better protected. He was very shaky today and against a better side may have had more troubles.
shurlock Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 Liked the way Murty geed up and encouraged to papa - thought they linked up very well in the 1st half. He talks more (in a good way) than any other player - surely a candidate for captain if he stays fit?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 Having Murty back is - as Dave Merrington would put it - a real booost.
S-Clarke Posted 28 November, 2009 Posted 28 November, 2009 Having Murty back is - as Dave Merrington would put it - a real booost. more like - it's a real boost, but don't tell anyone
Wes Tender Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 Murty is a great player for us. I'm frankly amazed that he has returned fit enough to play a full 90 minutes after such a long lay off. It has become very apparent that we have tightened up the right flank with his return and he is the consumate professional in his application and spirit. I'm pleased to read that he was vocal with instructing and encouraging those around him. We have several former captains in the team, but in terms of the length of experience and the prowess of the teams that they captained, Murty has to have the best credentials and it shows.
Ashtead Saint Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 There was one moment in the first half when one of Northampton's pacier players came charging down the flank. Murty first of all positioned himself so as to shepherd him towards the touch line. Then he closed him down. Then he took the ball off him before leaving him in his wake and passing the ball out to start off another Saints attack. It was a masterclass.
WestSaint Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 Murty is an excellent player for us. A leader on and off the field.
david in sweden Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 (edited) He was mainly a RB and very quick too I think I saw him play his First Game for Cardiff City http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Rodrigues Agree totally about Murty. Great leader type, but still best to have (younger) Hammond as captain. Don't think Murty is worried who has the armband - it's second nature to encourage as he does. Rodrigues played " almost " two seasons, and at RB every time ..except once. Home game v. Hull City Feb.77 he wore the 3 shirt for the one match. Great captain though, even if it was a rather short Saints career because of a bad injury. Shef.Wed. thought he was " over the hill" at 31 - when they gave him a free. Did a great job and ..was " the last team captain to receive the FA Cup from the hands of H.M. the Queen " (she gave the task over to lesser / younger Royals the following year). A good full back (like goalies) can go on a bit, too. I grew up watching Stuart Williams at RB. WBA let him go (cheaply) at age 32 and he did a great job for us and was still playing in his 36th year. When he retired we got David Webb to replace him (which wasn't a bad deal either.) Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 Having Murty back is a Still leaking goals though!!
Bailey Posted 29 November, 2009 Posted 29 November, 2009 Big fan of Murty. It's great to have a 'proper' right-back playing for us. Credit to Lloyd James though, he filled in well and did a good job for the team.
