Murty was excellent and a quantom leap improvement over the hapless James at RB (James is far better in CM) and Lallana was a treat to watch again. Toomer Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Mate, Boateng couldn't finish a ham sandwich and that other striker couldn't hit a banjo with a cow's arse!!! Trouble is they would against us, more's the pity.

influx Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Great win, had to leave 15 mins early as my 4 yr old daughter wanted to go. To be fair she wanted to go after the first 10 mins. It was her first match, and part from being surrounded by hairy arse southerners, some bloke woked past with blood oozing from a head wound. She said tonight when I put her to bed. "Daddy, don't take me to football ever again, i did like the train ride though" I think I will try again but it will be at home in the family enclosure next time I think. And how **** are there facilities!? Also, I had lost my phone in the taxi on the way there so need someone in the ticket office to phone me a cab. I was told they didnt have a pay phone, and when I dared suggested I borrowed on of there phones they looked at me like i'd asked to **** in there shoes! My daughter was freezing, in the end one of them called a cab, but was told it would be at least 30 mins. I asked if they could try another, and they said they only ever use the one firm. I explained that it was for us not them so surely they could use another, but they refused. They suggested that the station wasnt too far away anyway and I could walk, bloody gits, its 2 mile away!! Ended up walking to the travel lodge and the guy on reception got us one straight away. What is it with some people?! They were women too so you would expect they would have a little more compassion. Kind of didn't help with my daughters first matchday experience! Still had a good day though, and it was quite funny that any time a song with swear words started my daughter looked at me to make sure I wasnt joining in! NN2 Saint Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Was nice to be back in my old uni town today still as freezing as I remember it. Played really good football at times especially when keeping the ball on the deck. Waigo makes me chuckle looks absolutely shocking for 40 minutes then scores 1 and sets up the other. Shouldn't have conceded but that appears to be an SFC trait at the mo and so be it as long as we score more than the opposition thats what matters. Kingsland Red Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 I note a change in me which has occurred. I didn't have a niggly feeling that it could all go wrong! Years of being used to us losing in the cup against lower division opposition seems to be on the turn. I felt certain that we were going to win and would have been very surprised if we hadn't.[/ As I mentioned in another thread, the expectation rather than dread is a major change in our outlook, what a great feeling ! Matty's Caddy Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 That is exactly it though - how can someone be DISAPPOINTED after winning? i bet it's doing pardew's head in, this clean sheet lark, us scoring plenty of goals is IMO papering over the cracks. saying that, we're a bit chop and change at the back at the moment which doesn't help. St_Tel49 Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 Gave away a needless penalty and scored a crap own goal. Very similar to Gobern's performance against Bristol Rovers in the first round of FA cup. If Gobern were poor on that night, Hammond was better but similar to him just now. Why I don't want him to be our skipper? Just pure preference. I think Jaidi must be a better skipper and if I am the manager I will give the armband to Jaidi. Based on what? Pardew clearly does not agree with you and, with respect, I think that I would back his judgement over yours.

wessex saint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I'm chuffed to bits with how our season's going but I do worry about our defence. Yesterday we looked very fragile - every time Northampton got in the last third it felt like it took last ditch defending to stop them from scoring! Don't think the centre back pairing has been solved yet - Murty looked great and Harding not bad but through the middle we look vulnerable. If we buy in Jan that's the first position I would look to strengthen

Charlie Wayman Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Another good day at the office. The important point to remember is that we are winning on heavy pitches in rain-sodden conditions whereas or slickest football is designed for fast dry pitches. If we can win ugly repeatedly in these conditions then it should be fun when spring comes and we can knock it around a bit. SUID

Andy_Porter Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I really cant understand why Mills was brought on and not James. We needed a calm head in midfield to keep possession, I would have got James on after 55-60 mins. Schneiderlin isn't going to at his best on that sort of surface in those conditions. We couldn't keep hold of the ball at all in the second half, it was probably our worst 45 minutes since we got Jaidi and Waigo and the whole team turned the corner. Three well worked goals are probably the only real positive from yesterday. Was also nice to see Bart come from quite a few crosses although he clearly needs a few games to get to his best. It is a great feeling and we are a lucky bunch of supporters with a set up like this. On the other hand it is also a work in progress, and AP has some way to go before he is happy with his squad and what it is doing. We have clearly started scoring goals, hurrahhh, and a winning mentality is under construction, but there are tweakings to do in the defending department and major surgery to do in the first team squad beyond the bench. Some of the critique can be a bit wild, but it is also progress to question a 3-2away win, rather than the wimpering defeats we have become used to. To suggest that we shouldn't retain a critical attitude is way off the mark.
Bailey Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 A solid and comfortable win, with the scoreline flattering Northampton. It's a bit of a concern that we're still leaking goals, but as Pards has said, it's 'job done' and now we wait to see who we get next! I thought Lallana, Wotton and Schneiderlin all had good games, with Lambert putting in a good shift as the lone striker. Perry and Bialkowski hardly inspire me with confidence, but neither have had much game time of late so they could just be a tad rusty. All in all, an entertaining game, a deserved win and a good day out.
Kenilworthy Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 What hasn't been mentioned is that we had to deal with a referee who was aching to give Northampton everything he could. Gutterdidge got away with a terrible late challenge on Harding with just a warning. Lallana was clearly pushed down in the penalty area and then right at the end Harding was pulled back in the penalty area. Ok we had pushed the ball too far, but it is still a penaly whether he could have got the ball or not. And what was going on with the refreshment kiosk at the back of the Alwyn Hargarave stand? Even though there were only Saints fans in the whole stand the stewards wouldn't let anyone get to it. Maybe they were saving the pies for Akinfenwa? The Cat Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 What hasn't been mentioned is that we had to deal with a referee who was aching to give Northampton everything he could. Dunno, he could quite easily have given them a penalty at 0-0 when Harding pushed one of their players in the back. Granted it wasn't a massive shove but enough for it to be given if the ref was that desperate to appease the home fans. Quite a drab game. Seemed like Saints were coasting most of the time. You could see such a gulf in class when we got our passing and movement going.
