Gemmel Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Shouldn't have been dropped, but hey ho......... ball goes out of play and he's there giving the youngsters instructions and tips......proper quality player. Lancashire gets sent off, who's the first one to speak to him... Chris Perry, pat on the back and some consoling words Cheers Chris
Saint Matty 76 Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Perry's 35 now, isn't he? We have 7 game's in the next 21 days, I know we needed him to play, but he does need a rest.

chivvy1664 Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 I dont rate any of our central defenders at all. Killer included. Come to mention it i dont really rate the fullbacks either. We are ****ed.
Chez Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Perry has been pretty average to be honest and his lack of height causes us all kinds of problems. Those problems didn't seem to have been solved as we still looked very vunerable to the crossed ball.
LeBenali Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Fairplay to him, got a feeling after today we may see him here as a coach next season. Just a hunch!

We are ****ed. We need 4 out and out bruisers across the back. And at least one in midfield. And one up front. It is not a League for kids. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Perry's 35 now, isn't he? We have 7 game's in the next 21 days, I know we needed him to play, but he does need a rest. Agreed but he's just had 2 weeks without a game. Might have been better to play him today and against Ipswich and then rest him against Barnsley. Or are we starting to choose our must-win games already??? chivvy1664 Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Thomas, Ostlund, Powell and Viafara served us so well in those roles last season didn't they Is that supposed to make it alright. Even more reason to have got some better defenders.
LaptopSaint Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 But we have got some better defenders. Do you really think JW, Ostlund, Powell, Makin and Bennett were better than James, Cork, Perry, Surman etc? I know which group I'd rather have. It'll be said a million more times on here before the majority of the fans get the point, but judge it after Christmas or at the end of the season, not now. what he said. Whitey Grandad Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Perry was a doubt for yesterdays game according to the echo. The comment from the Sky commentators was that Poortvliet had said that QPR only played with one up front so he wanted central defenders who could bring the ball out of defence. I just want central defenders who can defend. - oh, and some fullbacks.
Saint Martini Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Maybe it was the combination of the two, Perry doubtful and them playing with only one striker. Besides, with some important home games coming up maybe it was a good choice to rest him if he was carrying a knock.
Tommy Mulgrew Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Perry should have played. With Svensson and Thomas ruled out by injury (we never seem to have only one CB out at the same time!), we needed to have experience in the centre of defence. Without it we were cruelly exposed; nobody organised the defence in the first minute and it didn't get much better as the match progressed. KD was our man of the match and we nevertheless let in 4 goals; that statistic tells a story. A couple of older and wiser heads yesterday (and hopefully in future) and we would have been a good side. You are clearly falling for the spin. He has just had 2 weeks break, and like the rest of the squad who were not on international duty he was given time off by the coach. Agreed he may not be able to play 7 in 21, but in that case play him in the first, when the other experienced CB is out, see how it goes and then maybe revise the plan. Crass stupidity to plan for this by dropping the guy for the first game, and have 2 kids debut at CB. Better plan would have been to partner perry with either Cork or Ollie, then bring the other kid in for the second game if necessary.
L1Minus10 Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 By not playing Perry Yesterday, Poortvliet was basically saying that we don't have much chance of beating QPR but we have a better chance of beating Ipswich. Similar to the Prem when a side like Bolton will play their reserves against Man Utd away cos they know they're going to get dicked whoever they put out and save their players for the more winnable home game coming up. IMO, you are just as likely to beat anyone in this league so you can't do this. Perry should have played if fit.

Whitey Grandad Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 perhaps maybe just maybe Jan felt that Perry had not performed well enough and felt Lancashire and Cork deserved their starts. Then his judgment was poor. Two debut centre halves in the same match?
callysaint76 Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 The reason why Perry was not playing is because him and Cork are both too similar to play together. So it was either going to be Perry and Lancashire or Cork and Lancashire, and on this occasion Jan chose Cork... pretty simple!

Whitey Grandad Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 It wasn't Cork debut. He played against Brum at CB. Yes, I was there and I thought he played well there alongside Thomas. I suppose I mean an untried pair in the centre of defence.
