Saint_clark Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Side left by Paul Lambert is/was worse imo than the team AP inherited here. So you're saying Boothroyd could have taken the team that started against, say, Hearts in pre-season and give us 7 wins and 7 draws in 14 games at least? Impossible to say what he would have done here - can only judge him on his success so far at Colchester. He took over a squad with limited quality, had no preperation time and no money to spend. 7 wins and 7 draws in 14 - you decide if he would have done better! Arizona Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Derby/Torquay is a remarkably simple concept. At Derby we won the match but lost the tie. Against Torquay we drew the match and won the tie. Whether you want to call these wins, draws or losses is tedious and trivial.

saintwarwick Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 well you can if torquay counts as a win One team has to go through in a cup tie and the only way you can do that is win your tie no matter how you do it so yes we did beat Torquay otherwise we would not have played Charlton in the next round
InvictaSaint Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 I would suggest that coming into a club which, on three well documented occasions, had almost folded, and which had seen its few older professionals and many youth team players, who had been promoted too early to the first team, have the stuffing well and truly knocked out of them by Lowe, Poortvliet, that mysterious Dutch agent and Wotte......was a far worse situation to inherit than what Boothroyd picked up. But so many people seem content to ignore the bleeding obvious and bang on about our situation, when AP turned up, being similar to X club or Y club. Sorry, you are wrong; it simply wasn't. I don't really want to contribute to what seems to have turned into a massive ****ing contest about one person proving themselves 'correct' over another in terms of what SFC might / could / should have done in the first ten games or whatever; all rather tedious really, and entirely moot, to boot. We are where we are, we're winning games, the ethos around the club is starting to change and things are looking up. Harping on endlessly - and yes guys, that's how it seems - about what we should have done really doesn't matter or mean anything. Enjoy the here and now and I would imagine the future. Far more important.

NickG Posted 29 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 29 November, 2009 Point me in the direction I said you musn't enjoy winning Nick? I am sincerely glad you enjoy it, I do myself but I temper my joy with caution, especially when the performance has not been that great. Neither of our "approaches" are right or wrong but we must both be allowed to counter each other's opinions without insult or wind ups or it is bound to get personal. why lessen the joy about worrying how it will last? I to see the flaws in our performances and think we need to improve/strengthen to make us the true force in this division - but that doesn't diminish from the pleasure I have at seeing a 12 game run like this - the likes of which I can't remember for a long time. You are seeing personal agendas when they are not there!
doughnutman Posted 29 November, 2009 Share Posted 29 November, 2009 boothrooyd (who has been laughed at many times on here) has won 7 and drawn 7 from his first 14 games at colchester Dont forget he inherited a very good squad, that had beaten one of the top teams in the league 7-1 whereas pardew inherited a group largely consisting of players not ready and with a losing mentality due to last seasons train wreck of a season. Amazing. Then why did you start yet another tedious thread containing only the list of the teams recent results? Do you think we are idiots or something? We are all aware of recent results, thanks. It's in the Pink, the programme, websites etc etc but you still think it so important we all need reminding; so you start two threads on the subject in as many days. No doubt if we win tomorrow you will start another 13 games blah blah blah. Give it a rest man - are you on commission or something? I really am quite amused/bemused by your apparent obsession to turn this whole forum into a bunch of happy clappies. Thanks by the way for all the free advice you're handing out tonight , I feel genuinely privileged you should bother to enlighten me so . First you advise me to get a new 'hobby' (telling that you regard supporting this great club as a mere hobby) and now you instructing me on what this forum is for . When exactly did your promotion come through ? I'll return the favour and give you some free advice - you would be better of concentrating on putting your own opinion across rather than telling others how they should support their club and engaging in tiresome little mind games on here . You are aware I hope that most of us on here do take a interest in SFC (some of us even go to matches you know) and thus are well informed of it results even without your massively obvious contribution ? Now I'm more than happy to continue this as long as you like but please be aware I might have to break off every now and then as I have rather more pressing matters on my plate at the moment than you .
