Has anyone heard any recent news or developments regarding the centenary?

Especially given our most recent past, this is a big one as it looked for a while we would not have a club.

Fitzhugh Fella?

We could start a sticky/list of ideas and suggestions and send them to N Cortese?

For me, I would like to see a special badge or text on our all our new shirts for next season.

Would like to all designs based on some "classic" saints designs from down the years.

As we are in a long term deal with Umbro, I would like to see them give the "tailored by umbro" look to their own classic saints shirt of 1974-1976. Think of the england home kit in terms of style and cut, anyone got any better pictures?:-

CLASSIC

**** where has the picture gone?! try this link if you wanna see the shirt im reffering to 1974-76 http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Southampton/Southampton.htm

We should ditch 'Flybe' on our shirts (we don't need their twopence halfpenny eh Marcus?) and have "125 the South Coasts Oldest Club" instead.

Flybe deal is up at the end of the season, I would be surprised to see it renewed

I thought a centenary was celebrated after 100 years.

125 years would be our quasquicentennial anniversary, perhaps we should have that put on our shirts, would use up some of those left over Qs since Quashie left...

Good idea to start planning in advance for these occasions. When arrangements are left to the last minute, that's when things go wrong.

I think we should start each game of next season with 125 balloons being launched before each game and whoever gets the one that has landed the furthest away gets a season ticket for life.

I also think we should arrange for all the 125 year olds in the country to have a season ticket for life and they get to sit in the boxes and whatnot, really spolit and looked after.

The club should also get all the ex players who are in trouble around the world and get them back and set up a Saints retirement home, which after the 125th celebratory year could be opened up to all ex footballers. It could be run as a non profit organisation and would be a welcome legacy of our 125th glorious year. All the footballers would love to retire down on the south coast and the club could give them all season tickets for life.

Another idea is to send out exercise books to the local schools with the Saints badge on the front (in a subtle way) and make the book 125 pages long. The kids could write in the book and do their school work and learn whilst supporting saints. Then, in a bid to raise standards we could offer life time season tickets to one student from each school who shows the most progress, as judged by their teachers.

Finally we could have a Saints 125 ribbon, like those aids and cancer ones. Or one of them wristband things, like Lance Armstrong. Our one would be red and white and would have 125 on it. We should also make one out of 125 a different colour and that special one would make the wearer eligble for a free ticket to every game.

You just made that up.

How about another statue, maybe of saint Mary, give the artist who screwed up the original Ted Bates statue a second chance:rolleyes:

Saints kit 125 years ago looked like the picture below according to http://www.historicalkits.co.uk

2010/11 season kit imo should be in this style/colour scheme. The badge could change to something like the original badge aswell instead of the current badge which was designed in the 1970's.

Modern version of 1885 Kit

mattlegodhome.jpg

Badge (50% current 1970's designed badge and 50% 1885 badge)

Use this badge for 2010/11 season

CB Fry statue: Get some cricketers and athletics stars to come and unveil it.

and Charles Miller statue: get some Brazil players to unveil it

, also like the bust of MLT idea.

The shirt and badge above by Matthew Le God are good to, send that to the club.

Would be great to see an old style kit come back, but with a modern twist. Would like to keep the same badge though, maybe just put '125' or something like that underneath it.

Excited about a new sponsor as well, Flybe has always felt like a default sponsor if that makes sense, since so many clubs have had it. It's like, we can't get anyone to sponsor us so i guess it'll have to be Flybe. I'd love something original that no one else has, preferably not an insurance company that makes us alter the stadium name.

Everyone will still call it St Marys

I think we should go a year without the sponsor

Really hope so. It's so tacky. I'd love is to say no sponsor at all. Sponsors gets advertising boards, stadia, players, websites, so can't we leave the shirt alone? It looks so much better without one, and means fans don't have to advertise some cheap flight rubbish.

I wonder if the fans would be happy paying an extra £10 per match ticket to fund this..?

not as if tickets are not that expensive as it is for league 1..

someone has to help fund the man city style spending in league 1 if we want to try and do it the right way (with a little help from markus)

And as for sponsorship for next year, where is the interest from any of the big cruise-lines that make Southampton their base? A direct link with the name of Southampton and the port itself....

A bit more upmarket than the supposedly cheapo Flybe?

Yer a bit late, it was 25 years ago...

As someone else pointed out it is the Quasquicentennial - 125 years...

Leave the shirt alone. I don't care whether we played in red and white quarters or with a red sash 125 years ago.

Ever since anyones living memory we've played in red and white stripes.

I'm proud of our red and white stripes.

LEAVE THE RED & WHITE STRIPES ALONE.

WRONG

Throughout the whole of the 1980's Southampton didn't play in red and white stripes

1987 to 1989

So what is wrong with for the 125 anniversary season playing in a kit like the kit worn 125 years ago?

I'm only talking about changing for 1 season in 2010/11 to a 1885 style kit. For 2011/12 change back to red and white stripes. What is wrong with that?

Alot of fans seem to think the current badge has been around for 125 year when it is only been in existance since the 1970's.

So thats 80 years of Saints history where the scarf and halo badge didn't exist!!!

Alot of fans think we alway played in red and white stripes for the whole of recent history. When for the whole of the 1980's we did NOT play in red and white stripes. Also going back further in time there were other periods where we didn't have red and white stripes.

The 1980's were perhaps the most successful period in Southampton history and we didn't wear red and white stripes for any of it.

We came 2nd in 1984 just behind Liverpool and a number of other high league finishes and cup runs NOT wearing red and white stripes.

To be fair the Keegan kit is red and white stripes, just two really thick ones.

I have to say, as the club historian I think this is quite brilliant and stylish.

Personally I would lose the scarf on the badge.

I have one of the original sashes actually worn in our original kit and this kit does it justice. Nice one MLG

And we had a well organised campaign called 'SICK', Saints in conventional kit, that eventually succeeded.

How can any club build tradition if you're chopping and changing your identity it every 5 minutes.

My mum first watched Saints in 1948 and they played in red and white stripes. My late grandad watched Saints play in red and white stripes in the 1920's.

LEAVE THE FVKKIN RED & WHITE STRIPES ALONE.

Yea but my great Grandad watched them in sashes, then cherry halves, then cherry quarters before stripes so shove that in your pipe :)

Also in the twenties and thirties we had navy blue shorts so should we go back to them as well?

The sash would look good for just one season and then we could go back to stripes.

If you were a Leeds fan what would you be saying?

They didn't start wearing a white kit until the 1960's for the previous 80 years it was completely different.

What if you were a Saint fan in 1896 - for the first 11 years of Saints they didn't wear red and white stripes.

For the first 50 of Southampton they didn't wear black shorts.

For the first 90 years of Saints they didn't wear white socks.

My idea is only as a one of to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the club and then revert back to red and white stripes in 2011.

How about getting 125 of the boring mugs who post on here to actually go and watch the team live week in week out rather than come up with ill informed media based criticism and commercial sh!t re branding etc etc etc.........???

Leave the badge and the stripes well alone please.........
