Fan The Flames Posted 15 September, 2008 Share Posted 15 September, 2008 Straight from the horse's mouth means the person you are talking about told you themselves. It doesn't mean someone who knows that someone told you. No it doesn't, yes it does. It means its information from the inner circle, as it might have escaped you but Mr Ed was fictional, horses can not talk, well not humanish anyway. The information is so good it may well have come from the horses mouth. In this context you can take it to mean the Shearer has actually said to Le Tiss he would consider the job if offered. I find that interesting information, but what I don't find so interesting is the takeover part because its more of an if than a when. So I would like to add that if my dad buys Southampton I would consider the job if offered and that is straight from this horses mouth, naaaaaaigh

However in the last year or two, especially since the demise of SaintsForever, I'm afraid that this response is exactly the reason why I choose to spend most of my free time more productively these days. Whether I pay £5 or not to post inane drivel on this board doesn't make what I have to say any more or less worthwhile. I can read all the posts I want without paying my fiver BTW, so I do know how many windup ITKers there are on here. As for the original post - the fact that he posted a photo of him in the Sky studio means he's not just another ITK wind-up merchant. If he then chooses to keep us guessing as to his source, well it's unlikely to have come from Paul Merson or Charlie Nicholas, surely he doesn't have to spell out exactly who it came from, especially in these more litigious days, perhaps his source asked him to keep it under his hat. The muppets are the people who correct his grammar and spelling - this is not an English homework essay, he's not writing a novel or a textbook, it's simply a virtual "pub", where people exchange news, opinions and gossip. If you corrected the grammar of many pub-goers on a regular basis, you'd likely end up in hospital.

NickG Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 think most people were not stressed or having a go just after clarification. Just comes down to how important things like this are to fans and why they grab hold of them. People want to know whether things are really happening or just gossip (even of gossip is from ex players etc). Think the initial poster either meant he was talking to MLT and MLT said he had heard it from the horses mouth, or was a bit unclear of the meaning of horses mouth (and nothing wrong in that!) thinking it meant people close to info or included second hand info. the phrase means more than hearing from close sources / inner sanctum of ITK people it means directly and personally heard from the person it refers to and who knows it for a fact. Poster was passing on info in good faith and there is no need to have a go -but equally, as it was a bit confusing, shouldn't mind people trying to clarify it. If you've never over-egged your salary, your house value, the adventurousness of your missus or your sexual conquests to your mates, then you're a better man than me. I got the jist of the original post - I took it to mean exactly how you have interpreted it. But the original poster didn't do himself any favours, by refusing to confirm that (pretty bloody obvious) link and then getting all uppity like he was the keeper of some grand secret. Shearer might or might not be Saints manager in the future, In fact I have written before on this forum why I think it likely he will be (his missus and her family, for a start). The original poster could have written "Shearer told MLT that he would take the managers job if this takeover goes through". No harm done, and he would have got no abuse from anyone. But he didn't - he couldn't resist sexing it up and then getting all abusive, which is typical of the wallies that post on here, I'm afraid and why this forum has a bad name of being full of bullsh it t ers. It takes some doing to post up a picture of yourself next to MLT and still end up looking like a bull sh itt ing plank. Bit of a pity, really. Alan Shearer is a football icon figure and would not be joining us or anyone unless there was a pot of gold waiting for him to spend. He is like Dalgleish becoming player manager of Liverpool or Keegan on his first stint at Newcastle. If he is talking about the job then there must still be a take over simmering somewhere because no way would he be interested in it otherwise and neither would he be if it was a tinpot takeover that just meant ownership had changed and he was still strapped for cash. Bottom line is that Shearer as manager would pack St Mary's.

It appears quite acceptable for the originator to tell others to 'learn to read' yet totally unacceptable for me to tell him to 'learn to write' - double standards in the extreme. The point was (is) that it appears fine for him to chastise and abuse others, but he, for some reason is exempt. What you fail to realise, is that I, like many here are actually very interested in the 'snippet' that was being mooted. If you post here, be prepared to have people read and comment on your information. All that most of us were trying to do is validate exactly what was said, by whom, to whom. We are not doubting his claims at all - photo or no photo - who cares. Lets be honest if most of us spent the afternoon with a good source would we not have 'interogated' him for as much information as we could glean - I think so. Yes it decended into farce, and I played my part in it - but if you are going to throw insults to other posters about their reading ability - expect some back. EFM Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 Blimey! This all turned a bit nasty! It just seemed like a happy thread from someone who had had a great day and dropped in an interesting snippet he heard from someone who we all admire and respect (probably). Admittedly NOT the horse's mouth but still interesting. For what it's worth, which is not very much, I think some of you have been a bit harsh on the guy. But that's just my opinion. I totally agree with a poster above about correcting people's grammar and punctuation when you don't agree with their opinion. Does it really matter on a football chat site if someone's writing is not impeccable? I'm trying to keep the peace here by the way not re-start the argument. Apparently, MLT had criticised Heskey's inclusion in the England squad and someone rang in saying that Heskey was brilliant and better than a certain fat , lazy midfielder who spent all games strolling around the pitch and taking pot-shots from 30 yards. Matt came back with "and happened to score a goal every other game". Beat that Mr Heskey.

graymalkin33 Posted 17 September, 2008 Share Posted 17 September, 2008 awwww Ponty - Chin Up MLT well done for posting the original Item. You must have had an excellent day there. Great Pic. I would imagine there are many many on here that would like to be photographed with Matt LeTissier I would have liked to have gone. Anyone being abusive is just jealous, ignorant, stupid - oh there are so many words to describe them.... But anyway I for one hope that Shearer does not become manager IF/WHEN we get taken over because with millions to spend id rather have a proven coach or JP in charge. Logically, why would JP (on the 'unproven' side of your equation) be any different, in terms of risk, to Alan Shearer, given they are both 'unproven'?
