benjii Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 I saw it from my lounge, through the window. It was a bright orange light that swept across the sky from left to right, wobbling around. It was close at first and moved further away as it went. I'm not ****ed. I am not a druggy. I am not a bum. I do wonder just quite what it was.
Arizona Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 I've just seen an UFO Grammar Nazi does not like this.
Arizona Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Because U.F.O. is an abbreviation and the 'U' is pronounce "yoo" instead of "uh" the term UFO should pre preceeded by "a". If it was pronounce "uff-oh" then "an" would indeed be the correct prefix. Please obey ze rules.
Pancake Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Grammar Nazi does not like this. Pronounce the words, not the letters (as any good Grammar Nazi should for accronyms)
Pancake Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Because U.F.O. is an abbreviation No it's not.
Arizona Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 No it's not. Okay, an accronym then smart arse. Grammar Hitler youth is no match for Grammar Gestapo.
benjii Posted 26 November, 2009 Author Posted 26 November, 2009 Pronounce the words, not the letters (as any good Grammar Nazi should for accronyms) Exactly. TLA innit.
Pancake Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Exactly. TLA innit. Tight Little Arse? Did they abduct you then?
benjii Posted 26 November, 2009 Author Posted 26 November, 2009 Hitler Youth, not Hitler youth which was an odd-ball's salad years not a proto-vanguard fascist movement.
benjii Posted 26 November, 2009 Author Posted 26 November, 2009 Tight Little Arse? Did they abduct you then? I am un-abducted. Seriously though, it was weird. Like a large ember floating.... just floating.
Saint in Paradise Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 Benjii you are very brave posting this, watch out though you will probably get some stupid replies from some people who are unable to face facts.
hamster Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 Chinese lanterns I remember back in the summer walking back to our caravan in Weymouth, I was conviced that we were watching the Red Arrows returning to base as these lights darted about across the horizon. As they moved overhead they one by one dissappeared. I stood there mouth ogape telling mrs h and the Grandkids that maybe they were UFOs. Some bloke walking past chipped in telling us that we were watching Chinese lanterns, over the next half hour we counted about fifty of the things. Very cool the first time you see them, even more so when ****ed (as I was that night).
Al de Man Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 Pronounce the words, not the letters (as any good Grammar Nazi should for accronyms) You want to keep an eye out for the Spelling Stasi.
Hamilton Saint Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 No it's not. Yes, it is. UFO is an abbreviation for unidentified flying object. An acronym is a pronouncable word formed from the initial letters of a phrase - e.g., laser, which is formed from the abbreviation for 'light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation'.

St Landrew Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 Did you identify it? If not, and it was flying, then it's a UFO But that's not really the definition, is it. The reliable definition of a UFO is that the object must be subjected to all rational explanations and alternatives, and if it can't be explained by any of those, to the smallest degree, then it just might be considered a UFO. Or you were just kidding.
LVSaint Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 They usually return. Get back out there wit a camera Rule 1 next timne please

benjii Posted 27 November, 2009 Author Posted 27 November, 2009 Chinese lanterns It may well have been but I've seen those before and this seemed to be a bigger illumination given its distance.

What, WHAT?! Yeah, it's Saints related, I should have put it on the main board. Oh no, silly me General Sports. Actually, Technology. Jeeeeez. I suppose I should have put it in the Lounge so that all the lunatics could post their "serious" theories about moon landings, 9/11, Jamaican Ginger Cake and whatever happened to Tab Clear? Unbelievable. Edited 27 November, 2009 by benjii
Jillyanne Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 There are a lot of chinese lanterns about at the moment as shops are selling them off cheap after Bonfire night, we had some at my mums bonfire party, thought they were quite cool.
benjii Posted 27 November, 2009 Author Posted 27 November, 2009 No, this thing was definitely hot. Glowing, like an ember.
Dog Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 I saw an UFO when i was 11. It was about 60 meters wide and about 10 meters deep, it was shaped like a giant orange rugby ball and it hovvered over the top of me and my 3 mates before shooting off at an amazing speed and out of site. All this took about 15 minutes, it really was quite scary and will live with me forever.
Jillyanne Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 I 'think' I saw a UFO a few years back, i was 3am and me and my ex were woken by a very very bright light outside the front door (studio flat) and it hovered for about 40 seconds then shot upwards into the sky. The ex went and opened the front door and nothing or nobody was around. It wasn't like a torch light but a big ball of light, all very odd and quite scary.
69 saint Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 Just a thought......... How come no one else saw it

pilsburydoughboy Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 West End and yes it was about 5/6 years ago. Over Eastleigh i saw it from Oakmount and you can see right over Eastleigh.I was going to work at about 5 am.It was a big bright light that dropped like a stone and then shot off at an angle as fast as anything i have ever seen. I mentioned this to a freind at work who said he had seen similar over Romsey about the same time.

dubai_phil Posted 27 November, 2009 Posted 27 November, 2009 We had a UFO once down here. Wouldn't have been of interest except for the fact that it was seen by a Brigadier of Police and a bunch of tourists. Benji, get on the email thingy to the Telegraph, they have a big thing about doing UFO stories, hell they may even pay the beer bill for the next away game. Bit worried that Hamster may be a closet Skate, living in a caravan?
