St Landrew Posted 25 November, 2009 Posted 25 November, 2009 Couldn't listen to Chris Temple's interview last night, as I was called away, but AP got it exactly right again. Is this the first manager since WGS [and perhaps Nigel Pearson] to actually be watching/tuning in to the same match as the rest of us..? I particularly liked the line: "...the sort of game that Southampton, over the last twenty years, not [just] the last couple of years, would have lost..." And he's right again. Saints have never liked the ugly games, in that time, and almost always have come off worse, whatever the division or competition. WGS era, perhaps an exception. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8377774.stm
ladysaint Posted 25 November, 2009 Posted 25 November, 2009 Liked the way AP got hold of James (?)last night and pulled him by the scruff of his shirt away from the bundle.

the mick channon windmill Posted 25 November, 2009 Posted 25 November, 2009 yes, its a refreshing change to have such an open and honest manager who talks sense. i have been very impressed with pardew since he came to saints, i have to be honest and say at the time of his appointment i wanted keegan or strachan back so whilst not a bad thing when he got the job i was left feeling a little bit flat. i thought pardew had the potential to be a really good manager for us but after what happened at charlton and the end of his reign at west ham i felt his appointment was a bit of a gamble. i wouldnt swap pardew for strachan or keegan now though and i believe he is the right man for saints. i like his style, his words, the way he is turning this club around, the mentality he is installing, the way he seems to be getting the players motivated and wanting to play for him and saints. its very early days yet but i hope he can keep it going, which im sure he can, and i hope he sees his future here long term, again which i think he does. i have not known southampton fc to feel so united in my 30 years following this great club as it does now, the players, management, and fans have a togetherness and belief that something special is happening, a very large part of that is down to alan pardew
Huffton Posted 25 November, 2009 Posted 25 November, 2009 Liked the way AP got hold of James (?)last night and pulled him by the scruff of his shirt away from the bundle. Only because he would have got his head kicked in if he got involved:D

St_Tel49 Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Wow, am I glad I got qualifications in the sciences rather than English! I thought this was a forum about football! The two are not mutually exclusive you know! In fairness, there was nothing whatever wrong with the English expression of the criticised post but lack of upper case made it a bit more difficult to read.

Additionally, if you submit posts like this then make sure you practice what you preach, last time I checked 'ireland' was a proper noun.

If you find the post hard to read, don't bother. Don't be a condescending ***** about it.

Had it been unintelligible then I'd see more point in your comments, but it wasn't. I must admit, normally it really gets up my nose if people can't spell and/or punctuate reasonably well. The odd typo, I don't have a problem with, but I hope people will make an effort to get their messages across legibly, even if it is just to show respect to other members, if they have none for themselves. However, the original post was so well written and flowed so well that it actually didn't require punctuation. I only noticed it as I finished reading, and then saw the first complaint. I was actually impressed by it. Could we now get back to the subject of the thread please..?
Simon_UK Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Bringing this back to the topic in hand, as i stated in the reaction thread, Pardew was spot on with his tactical awareness and substitution, I firmly beleive that bringing on Paul Wotton won us that game defensively. Its nice to have a manager who can use substitutes effectively to change the game, something we have been lacking for a while.
Junior Mullet Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 Impressed with AP so far. His signing have been superb. The only thing I give him less than full marks on is tactics - tactically I think he's wrong as much as he is right. However, if he keeps brining good players in we will rely less on tactics as those facing us.

Football supporters come from all walks of life and include disabled, elderly, young, uneducated, illiterate, careless etc not just the well educated professional types. Your post brings back memories of Lowe - wasn't he the last person to try and cleans the club of those he felt were unpalatable? To criticise and patronise a fellow saints fan without knowing them the way you have shows you to be pathetic.
Under Weststand Posted 26 November, 2009 Posted 26 November, 2009 As couple more have said, the appointment of AP didn't initially excite me. He has since his arrival quietly gone about his buisness, in a positive unhurried way. He is building for the future of the club trying to put a good infrastructure in place. He also talks a lot of sense after the games & pretty mush says it as it is, praise where praise is due etc.

You are probably thinking about that brand new 1905 Imperial typewriter on which you learned. I bet it wasn't querty then, either!
St Landrew Posted 28 November, 2009 Author Posted 28 November, 2009 Well, that bumps this thread back up and saves me finding it. Listened to Pardew after the latest match. He was actually pretty happy with the performance, but a bit peeved that we conceded again. It's something he knows and said he needs to work on. Thought the scoreline slightly flattered Northampton, but appreciated their industry. Pretty much how I saw it in my mind's eye, via the radio commentary.

Just back, Andy - The scoreline did not flatter Northampton - they outplayed us completely in the 2nd H. Another 5 minutes and it would have been Tranmere all over again.

Yes Tranmere seems to have been the reverse of the best games I think I have ever seen the Saints play. The 3-3 draw down the Dell against Nottm Forest in the Sixth Round of the cup after being 3 0 down with 12 Minutes to go followed by the 5 0 Thrashing at White Hart Lane

At 2-0 we were cruising and all laughed when Matt missed that sitter to make it 3-0.... We weren't laughing when the 6th went in...
