Agree. We need an experienced spine.

For the Ipswich game I would go with:

----------------------Kelvin---------------------

James---------Cork---------Perry-------Drew

---------------Wotton-------Spiderman------

----------------------Lallana--------------------

Dyer----------------------------------------Rudi

------------------------John---------------------

Subs: Bart, Gillett, Thomson, DMG, Pekhart

I'd probably go with something like

Davis

James Cork Perry Rudi

Gillet Lallana Surman

Dyer John Peckart

Surman must play in midfield and Dyer and John must play (IMO).

I wouldn't wish injury on anyone, but I really don't rate Holmes (unlike most posters on here) and think his absence could be a blessing in disguise.

Have to disagree with those putting Cork forward as a centre back. Today he missed headers, fell over, stood off players and generally allowed Blackstock to bully hima and give him the run around. He is not physical enough to handle the type of forwards he will come up against. Whether that is bacause of his young age I am not sure but for now he is not ready to play CB so I would play him as a full back if anywhere. Wotton looks a better bet at centre half than Cork as at least he can handle himself and stand up to strong forwards.

Perry, I agree, he should play and I don't really get why he didn't play today. John, I'm not sure. This formation is based on pressuring the opposition defence and disrupting their play. Not exactly John's style. Rudi I wouldn't give a place in the starting lineup just yet although maybe with Holmes out for a while there's not really another option. In the last reserve game he was ok (according to reports) but before he got injured he didn't seem motivated. He needs to get that drive back before he gets a place in the team.

Even in the playoff season, Skacel looked a class above the rest of the midfield. To leave him out now would make it seem like we are trying to get relegated IMO.

You CAN NOT just stick out a team of youngsters and expect "totaal voetball". I almost cringed with embarassment reading some of the comments on here preseason. Every time the likes of Saganowski, Rasiak, Safri, Licka or Viafara left it was "oh good, another over rated, over payed journeyman off the wage book." Nobody seemed concerned that we weren't actually replacing them.

John... aaah I don't know. On the one hand this system doesn't suit him at all. On the other, we need some experience in the team somewhere. I think our biggest mistake this season (appart from losing about 20 players from a squad lacking depth and bringing in just 10) was getting rid of Saganowski AND Rasiak. They are the only two strikers we have who I feel could perform in this system.

Agree with that, although Lallana could even move out to the right, bringing Spiderman forward & thus allowing Gillett to remain in the starting 11. No way Wotton can be dropped IMO, one of few players to come out of yesterday with credit.
