Fitzhugh Fella Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 this thread seems to have turned into an arguement between people thinking the playoffs are unlikely and those thinking the play offs are unlikely! The OP doesn't say we are cruising to the play offs ffs - it says we are on a good run! Using your crafty notion of highlighting the last 11 games, instead of say the last 4. Come on Nick we weren't all born yesterday. No doubt we will see you on Question Time very soon.
yorkiesaint Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 It is a good run, the only dampner being 1 win in 4 in the league. This has pretty much ended whatever slim hopes we had of making the playoffs. So there is reason for both optimmism and disappointement IMO. stevegrant Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 Stats can always be twisted to suit whatever argument you want to make. For example, if we say that the first month of the season was effectively our pre-season under Pardew as he was still sussing out who he wanted to keep and who he didn't during those 5 games, and take the results from September onwards, we've collected 23 points, which is the 4th-best return during that period. John B Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 God forbid you should raise anything positive Nick, you know how the wrist slitters on here hate any good news! I dont think you understood FF's post he was like me complaining about the spin being put on our good results. Nearly everyone is really happy about the results but some of the comments relating to them are becoming boring to some people

If we can get an average of 2 points per game we will be around the play-offs. Doesn't matter which points, just 56 of them. No "must win" games until we are 3 point behind with 1 game left. To reiterate, 2 points per game is the form for automatic promotion: i predict that two teams this year will do that, so why can't we? Calm down. NickG Posted 27 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 27 November, 2009 Using your crafty notion of highlighting the last 11 games, instead of say the last 4. Come on Nick we weren't all born yesterday. No doubt we will see you on Question Time very soon. I posted a while ago that it was the time for our new signings/management to start taking effect. Around that time we started a good run, which was posted on. The run continues. Most here are enjoying that run and appreciate the improvement on the first 12 games or so. 11 games is hardly a crafty choice of games. Its a very large number to give indication of form - 6 is often used. It does not miss any games out. It is current. And ties in with the timings I have just mentioned. Some are hearing voices, imagining arguments and getting personal. I suggest you ignore this thread or calmly start reading it again - ignoring your thoughts on anyone posting and just read whats written
sadoldgit Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I dont think you understood FF's post he was like me complaining about the spin being put on our good results. Nearly everyone is really happy about the results but some of the comments relating to them are becoming boring to some people When was the last time we won so many games? That is not spin it is a fact. Even the might Man Utd win games in which they are poor, that is the mark of a good team. We are now winning gaames where we are not always at our best. Okay, it didn't work against Brighton but even though we played poorly if we had taken our chances we could have won. Nick didn't say we will reach the play offs, he was just pointing out that over the last 11 games we have an amazing record (especially for a club like us starved of anything to get excited about for years). It was long before this run started that there was a thread on here entitled Pardew Out, But When. Nicks stats show just how stupid some people can be. Lat year we got excited about 3 wins back to back. This year we should be just as happy with 8 winds in 11 shouldn't we? Where's the spin in that? You know as well as I do that there are many people here who get off on the negatives, and goodness knows we have had more than our share of those. Why can't we just enjoy a set of stats that show that we can win matches without worrying about "spin" or what or what not happen by the end of the season? If we keep wiining matches at this rate Nick can "spin" all he likes. It is points on the board that matter and we are putting up there faster than we have done for years. I am not going to find something to moan about even if others are.

I am not going to find something to moan about even if others are. The Brighton result was the classic "In form, confident Saints losing against a **** poor, low-in-confidence team" syndrome, something that has haunted us for years. I think Pardew is doing a good job currently, getting out the relegation zone will give us a big boost I think. Just hope we don't get out of the relegation zone just before we face Tranmere
Thedelldays Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 whilst I am happy about our current form... I am not going to wet myself at it..as this was the form I was expecting from this team when pardew took over....(and got called unrealistic for it).. we SHOULD beat most teams in this league with the money we have and the players, set up and resources we have.. good work
Torres Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 we SHOULD beat most teams in this league with the money we have and the players, set up and resources we have.. You know as well as I dothat what saints should do and what they do generally are two different things. I don't go in for all this "NickG has some nasty agenda" rubbish. Just look at all those lovely wins, hope for a few more in the coming weeks and enjoy all the goals we are currently scoring. I don't often agree with sadoldgit but I do think some people need to just lighten up a bit.
