Thedelldays Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 Not that many millions, not compared to Peterborough or Leicester, mind you their results were far far better.I mean compared to Leicester's last season our results must be considered as p*ss poor. peterborough bought from non league...quite a bit from non league

once_bitterne Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 Lallana, Thomas and Bart I can't see Thomas leaving, esp if we lose Trotman. We would have no reason to want to move him on and I really can't see anyone coming in for him. Lallana is doing ok at this level but struggled in the CCC, given this and the fact that Prem teams rarely buy from L1, I can't see him leaving either. Bart could well go, no great loss, Forecast is equally as good/bad.

Window Cleaner Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 ITK or a guess A guess of course;) Thomas will leave this January, he really doesn't fit into the plans and AP has already said we can't really afford him, plus I think he is out of contract next summer and will probably not want to take a major wage cut. Lallana will want away because ...well he will ,trust me. Bart is probably a better keeper (on his day) than KD, but he isn't in the plans,or at least I don't think he is. On the other hand I fully expect Saga to be still hanging around the place until June 2010. Nobody is going to pay him what we are so he might as well hang around and keep drawing his megabucks for another 6 months. If we want to get shot of him, well then we'll have to pay him off. John B Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 Lallana will stay for another season if we get promoted next season. Surely it depends on money his contract ends in 2011 not sure SFC can offer him wages that he wants. How much will Saints get for him if he leaves in June 2011? Viking Warrior Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 I am not sure we need any loans at this stage , we have a huge squad and need to shift a number of players out, The smaller squad would lead to a greater competition for places. Even Sagger would start to fight for a place if he new he was close to playing first team football but as he isnt , he will not go that extra mile meanwhile he will happily pick up his salary week in week out
Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 24 November, 2009 Share Posted 24 November, 2009 I get the gut feeling that a quick defensive midfielder would be a good option for a loan signing as a bit of extra protection for our CB's who do lack pace but who is there ? Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 25 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 November, 2009 As long as AP is bringing in players who are better in their position than who we have currently, then surely it's a good thing? Also allows him to try and ship out more youngsters, to gain experience, and those who aren't getting games, in the hope their 'new' club turns the move into a permanent one. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 26 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 November, 2009 90 mins to go until the loan window shuts - I guess it's not looking that likely that we'll sign someone unless Donnelly's trial has gone well enough to be turned into a loan. Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 November, 2009 Share Posted 26 November, 2009 Of mainly rubbish (comparatively.) outside the first team. Most teams outside the top 10 in the prem rely heavily on the 1st team staying fit and in form. Teams like United and Chelsea will have strengh and quality in depth but not many sides have that. L1 sides are lucky if they have a decent 11 - a strong back-up would be a real luxory in this awful league. I think I could get in most sides and I don't play anymore. hypochondriac Posted 26 November, 2009 Share Posted 26 November, 2009 Like most other teams perhaps? But we want to be better than other teams (we certainly have more resources.) We have the likes of Pulis and Molyneux FFS. We need to clear some of the exceptionally awful backup out and get some not bad backup in. up and away Posted 26 November, 2009 Share Posted 26 November, 2009 Pardew knows what his best team is at the moment, but if we suffer from injuries and loss of form (Trotman?) we have very little backup. I think the only players on the bench at the moment who Pardew would consider as an adequate replacement are Thomas, Murty and Papa. We need a deeper squad, especially as the games are now coming thick and fast. I don't think Pardew does know his best team at the present, it certainly looks like he knows the best payers but that is a different matter. Now with Murty back he may well find his best team, we should know in a few games. I get the gut feeling that a quick defensive midfielder would be a good option for a loan signing as a bit of extra protection for our CB's who do lack pace but who is there ? Come January I would like to see Brett Pitman signed from AFCB. He could easily step up from L2. Where exactly are you going to play Pitman, drop Lallana? I just cannot see the logic in fans saying we should go for Pitman? Yes he is a good player and scoring goals for Bournemouth, but he comes from the MLT school of putting a shift in. As for putting him as defensive midfield, Schniederlin would stand up better. We definitely need a cloned version of Hammond because we have no one capable of standing in for him, but it's not Pitman.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 (edited) Leeds will win the league this year - im sure of that. They have a decent team and have added value at every oppurtunity. Some very astute signings and real intent shown. Saints on the other hand seem lucklusture with our transfer targets - Feeney was a target but we missed out to Sheff Weds, likewise Max Gradel was on APs wanted list but again our leisurely pace lost him to Leeds. We don't need any more loanees, we've got 4 as it is! If we need to strengthen the team further, it will be permanent signings in January and extending the loan periods of those we already have, signing THEM on permanently or replacing them with other loans for the remainder of the season.
