disappointed to let the lead slip twice.

last 3 games - not good enough.

need to pick ourselves up and kick on now.

didnt expect to still be in the relegation zone after 20 games - looks likely now though

Posted

Well we have managed to get 2 points from a possible 9 including two matches at home. That is pretty poor.

We are conceding too many goals and the central defence, including the keeper, needs close examination.

I think a lot of us have perhaps imagined we were better than we actually are. I feel quite gloomy having been quite optimistic a few weeks ago.

Bollix ... spent 10 mins posting a reply to various links on the other fred and the fred was locked .... can't friggin remember what I'd posted now, but it was probably post of the year ... your loss

Just for a second dismiss the Brighton game as a 'blip' and consider this ;

An entertaining draw against a potential league champion side follows knocking Brizzle Rovs & Charlton, ( both title chasing teams ) out of the cups, and having just had 4 successive league wins, including MK Dons - another top 6 team.

What's so bad ?

Posted

Very frustrating indeed. More points dropped and still well and truly trapped in the bottom 4!

However Norwich are up there with Leeds & Charlton in terms of ability etc and so it's not as bad as it seems. Had we not lost to Brighton (normal service resumed for them today!) it would be viewed as a reasonable result.

GOT to tighten up at the back though. It's ridiculous to be conceding the number of goals we currently are.

That was a great game to watch, but i felt Norwich had more control of it in the 2nd half and looked much more of a threat pushing forward.

We held on well in the end (i thought Murt's stopped their wideman getting in behind with his positioning)

but trotts was iffy again, let's too many balls bounce and is way too indecisive and rash with his distribution.

Lambert was quiet again i felt, but Connolly was excellent. His movement and flicks were brilliant to watch and his goal was a beauty - his fitness is improving massively as well - he's going to be a big big player for us.

Overall a good draw against a good team - we could have easily lost that in the last 10mins, but we held on well.

Hartlepool will be tough, but we have to go there now and win.

Two absolutely class goals punctuated 90+ minutes of hoof, offside and kindergaten defending. The goals were worth the ticket price on their own though.

Davis - 7 Good pen save. Soooooooo unlucky with the rebound. Should have done better with the second IMO.

James - 3 Can't run or jump, so doesn't even try to do either. Crosses from too deep and should be shot for the penalty.

Trottman - 5 Another shaky game from him.

Jaidi - 6 Good in the air, not all that convincing.

Harding - 6 Solid but very quiet.

Antonio - 5 Has been figured out.

Hammond - 6 Must have neck ache with the ball going over his head.

Schneiderlin - 5 As above, but wasteful in possesion.

Lallana - 7 Absolute quality for his goal, not a left winger though.

Connelly - 9 MOTM. Absolutely fantastic goal. Great assist too.

Lambert - 3 Had little supply, did nothing. Is he still ill?

Subs:

Murty - 6 Good shot, easily better than James

Waigo - 4 Having an offside party all of his own.

Can somebody remind me what form Norwich were on coming into this game? Rather good if memory serves; unbeaten in 10 or something similar? Winning a lot? In which case, perhaps an entertaining 2-2 draw isn't the end of the known universe as we are fearing and we can all put the Prozac away. Yes we are leaking a few goals and yes maybe we should and could have won this game but that's still 1 defeat in 10 isn't it? Perhaps in Glasgow that is relegation form but down here I would say we're doing ok. Always room for improvement, of course, but let's put the razors back in the draw shall we?

Oh yeah, one of the main points was taht whilst listening to the Post Match phone ins on Radio Norfolk via the NORWICH PLAYER (Saints Player TAKE NOTE YO USELESS EFFIN CNUNTS)...... was : -

IF yes (yes IF ..) we'd beat them we'd actually be on the same points as the team who I consider to be the best team in the league outside of Leeds.

The general view is that they won a great point rather than dropping 2 points to a relegation fodder bottom 4 team.

1 point from 2 home games is not good enough, but at least the crowd got entertained ... I won't ask anybody to think back to this time last season and later but we have progressed beleive me

That's where the word perspective comes in.

Some people get too carried away with a few wins and some people get too carried away with dropped points.

At the end of the day, we're somewhere in the middle - but we'll keep improving from now on.

I guess it's a case of the old "you have to win your home games". We've failed to do that now - not once but twice in the space of a week - which is hard to swallow. Still - we are Saints after all...which means we never ever do things the easy way! I'll forgive the lads if they manage 3 points oop north on Tuesday. Anything less & I will assume we have things wrong somewhere (defence namely) and will trust that AP is trying his hardest the fix things behind the scenes.

Best game of the season so far.

Without the 10 point deduction we would be close to Norwich and that was how the game panned out, although like others i am concerned by Trotman's dip in form.

AP has a problem because Connolly was very good and Lambert cost a £million so it looks like we are stuck with 4-4-2.

Still Murty coming back was a plus

Must comment on Ref i think we only had 2 free kicks in whole game, seemed to be a Norwich fan in disguise

Also Norwich fans a classic case of only singing when they are not losing

Maybe the odd one or two don't need to take heed of this though ;)

(Purely for the well being of the rest of us, nothing against the culprits )

Not what the Radio Norwich tater thought when a 2nd pen was denied ;)

Thought Lallana, Connolly and Schneiderlin were excellent. Thought we were dodgy at the back, and Lloyd James was woeful.

Couldn't really fathom out Pardew's thinking for the substitutions.

TBH they were so pro Saints 1st half it was scary ... they had Norwich on top 2nd half, but beleive me they were very happy with a point in the end.

Did sound like a nailed on pen from the way they reacted after being very fair throughout.

We could have won, we could have lost fare result in the end can take a number of positives from the game. We can also take a few negatives and one would be Lloyd James trouble is it will be a few weeks before Murty is 100% match fit.

This is not a smart-arse question, but would we be better off at RB with a Murty who's not match fit than with a James who is?

That's assuming that Murty is physically fit as opposed to match fit.

Murty didn't look fit today. I wouldn't play him on Tuesday, I would play Thomas there. I would also like to see Perry alongside Jaidi.

David Connolly is a superstar, worked his balls off as did Adam!!! those two aside, have to say i was worried by our lack of depth in the middle of the park! Norwich were allowed to build again and again and again and gathered confidence as a result! first ten mins of second half, woeful! we looked scared!! murts shored things up when he came on, but we looked dodgy at best at the back!! why on earth did no one follow in the penalty, naive!!!!

connolly and lallana looked a potent force, but we were lacking in too many areas! Have to say the crowd were excellent and made the second half one of the most exciting I have seen! Play offs, no chance, consolidate, get mid table and give it a right good go next season!

Posted

Ok, firstly it's Connolly.

Secondly, congrats to both teams on producing an excellent match in awful weather.

Some ratings:

KD - 5 - Unlucky with the penalty. Didn't really have much to do, despite Norwich's second half possession they hardly managed an effort on goal. Unfortunately he appeared to mess up the one thing he did have to do, but it can't have been easy in that weather.

LJ - 5 - Was having a decent game until the stupid challenge for the first goal. Sat too deep when moved to the base of the diamond.

Trotman - 8 - Got on the end of everything. Couple of sloppy moments but overall, very good.

Jaidi - 7 - Mostly in control.

Harding - 6 - Decent but at fault, like many of the team for sitting off his man too much in second half.

Antonio - 5 - Couple of decent runs but plenty of sloppiness too. Shouldn't start unless the other team has a pants left back IMO.

Hammond - 7 - Provided a lot more bite than last week.

Scheiderlin - 7 - Decent game but just needs to get a bit more offensive confidence when playing in a central two. Actually looked good going forwards when moved into the left of the diamond.

Lallana - 8 - Quality. Team mates can give him the ball under pressure and know he will use it well. Very well taken goal.

Connolly - 9 - MOM. First time he's looked properly match fit IMO and was the best player on the pitch. Dropped off short and always wanted the ball. Made us play better than the one dimensional stuff against Charlton and Brighton. Brilliant goal too.

Lambert - 5 - Docherty did well against him. Was unlucky with a couple of touches.

We should have wrapped this up in the first half. Unfortunately we didn't and a couple of errors let us down. Don't listen to anyone going over the top about throwing points away blah, blah, blah. Apart from the errors we actually soaked up the pressure pretty comfortably and looked likely to get one on the break. We played well. Norwich played well in the second half. It was a good match.

Why isn't Lloyd James in the MotM poll at the top ffs?

There's only 10 people in the poll at the moment and one of them is the sub Murty - no Lambert, no James, I think there's some 'leading the witness' going on.

Burn the Happy Clappy, burn the Happy Clappy......

Oh well, look on the bright side, another Correct Score in the prediction league. (thanks to a typo)

Was too tired and hungry to listen to more than about 30 minutes but we did seem to be very slow out of the blocks at half time. Perhaps they did suss us out and we paid the price. No idea

Still saves me worrying about airmiles for the playoffs

Lloyd James and Kelv costed us 3 points today.

Lloyd James - easily the worst player I've seen in a Saints shirt since the Prem days, Jermaine Wright IN!

Kelv - Unlucky with the penalty but should of done miles better for their goal. If he wasn't confident on catching it - why not put it out for a corner?

Posted

Thought that was a thrilling game. End to end against the team which will probably get automatically promoted with Leeds. We're not the finished article yet by any means and we may have to wait another season before we go up but at long last I'm enjoying my football again. We always look as though we could score a goal at any time which helps to make it so much easier on the eye than the dreadfully dull dross we've had to endure of the last few years. There can be no doubt we're on the up. We were so far down to start with it's all going to take time.

+1 on that. Now Murty is nearly back, get rid of James. Bring Bart in (was impressed with him against Charlton - Kelv is making too many mistakes).

Still 2-2 at 14/1 :)

Exactly (and some missed chances first half). There was nothing inherently wrong with the defence today. KD didn't really have a save to make, goals aside, despite their possession.

That must have been the first game you've seen since the premiership days then.

Glad to see the fans have found another scapegoat.

Good game from : Connolly (MOM), Lallana, Antonio, Harding, Jaidi, Davis.

OK game from Hammond and Schneiderlin, however I am not sure they compliment each other - they BOTH sit too deep for my liking.

Poor games from James, Trottman and Lambert.

It was a good entertaining game, but we will continue to be a mid-table team in this league until the defence and central midfield is sorted out.

Name someone worst.

Only player I can think that came close to how bad he is was that player we had on loan last season from Tottenham.

the players "sit" where the coach and manager tell them to.

We play a pattern or formation which is dictated by the coaching staff.

The player probably don't have any choice. Did you see AP screaming at either of them to get further forward? NO, then that's where he told them to be.The modern footballer is not Roy of the Rovers, he plays whatever role the manager tells him to.If he doesn't he gets subbed or shipped out-à la Saga.

Disappointed not to win but came away thinking a draw was a fair result

.....I see Lloyd James is the new whipping boy on here for the moaners :-( He didnt have a a good game ...true ...but he's not a right back by first choice and looked more comfortable on midfield when Murty came on

It wasnt so long ago that Lallana was getting a similar slagging

For a young player it's obvious James has got talent ... he needs a bit of support on here and not slagging off IMHO
