QPR v Saints - Post Match Views

exit2

Recommended Posts

The team go a goal down in 37 secs, go down to 10 men on 30 mins, get back in the game, then the linesman misses Stewart already a yard offside running behind the defence before the freekick is taken and lets him score.

We then have to attack with only 10 men, of course we are going to leave gaps.

I thought the team was brilliant, their heads didn't drop, they tried until the end. They played good football, the goal was outstanding, they created chances whilst Kelvin Davis had a great game.

It's a good job they didn't have the benefit of the hindsight, possessed by the negatives, or they wouldn't have got out of bed this morning.

There is far too much unwarranted negative criticism, by some who clearly haven't a clue, as to the club's predicament, we have only one team. All the negative binding isn't going to change a thing.

I agree, they played as well as they possibly could........but at the end of the day this is a forum for people to express their views on how THEY see things good or bad.

I've told you already that I dont think Lowe made enough effort to consider players in terms of "value to the team" when he got his red marker pen out on the wage list in July, and subsequently made no effort to argue the case for keeping any of them to the bank.

As I put earlier WHOEVER ran the club was required to rid us of any saleable asset if possible and bring the wage bill down. We did not have the luxury of setting rules to the bank.

Saga and Rasiak would not be the difference, Davies might have helped but he is oput injured and still would be on the treatment table. It is a difficult problem

FFS Ron, stop always dismissing the deep-rooted concerns of people as "knee-jerk".

All they do is repeat their fears every time more supporting evidence comes to light.

Was not aimed at you G, you have been consistant in your comments. But there are many others that seem to think we will win the league when we win one then relegated when we don't.

Perhaps I am lucky with my life as football plays only a small part. Too many other interests.

Let's hope Sainst are like HantsCC, bottom of both leagues a month or so ago and being written off, then yesterday top of both leagues with a remarkable turn round in form.

Can you tell me how a player who played 23 times after costing 1m, out with a knee injury (we know how they can be trouble) and get a 1m profit is not fair Im surprised. He would still be out now of course and still weeks away from playing. That money was worth us being able to get Morgan and keep the bank at bay, so I see it as a fair deal.

He is recovering from a planned operation.

I would have kept Davies and not bought Morgan tbh knowing how are defence has been a problem since we came down and is still the case.

A question for you, do you think Stoke would buy a player if they thought he

would be a risk?

I think that if they had any concerns they would have waited until the

January window.

And for the record, Morgan has been bought to sell on..IMO

At the time i feared a red card would be shown. Even the very biased Holoway sadi it was unjust ,but I will not condemn that particular decision.

Seriosly Nick? If I'd have been a HOME fan and that was our player I'd have been shocked that the lad could get sent off for that. I don't recall the home fans screaming OFF, OFF, OFF, for young Lancashire, To me it was a bizarre descision alongside the offide goal (ok he missed a legitamate goal too) we were not outplayed.

Sorry Nick. But I see it as condoning Rupert.

Unfortunately, the way I see it, the sooner him and Wilde are out of the club the better.

As I see it, if we could find an acceptable alternative with some funds I would back it immediately. Fulthorpe has gone to ground and he was the last hope, although i didnt see his plans and so they might have been as weak as the Wilde bunchs.

Wade as i say stay with us and give your support a little longer.Remember back to the hope of the last game last season and that adrenyline rush, even the away win at Derby and its times like that make days seem worthwhile.

We were naive in the extreme. This naivety comes from having a manager inexperienced in English football at any level, who should have realised that it was suicidal against a team like QPR to have only one player in the back 4 with any real experience and that itself not really in defence, as I still maintain that Surman is a midfielder playing out of position. There ought to have been at least one of the CBs with an older, wiser head on his shoulders. If Dubai Phil is correct and Perry needed to be rested, then the only remaining available player who fits the bill is Wotton. But as I pointed out on another thread which maintained that we had adequate defensive cover, utilising Wotton as a CB deprived us of his steel and experience in midfield. Thank God that we had one part of that steely spine in place; Davies was truly magnificent in goal and without him we could have conceded 8.

Could it be that there has been so much hype about Southampton's exciting youngsters and the total football, that JP actually believes that what we have is good enough without playing the older players like Perry and John? If so, I'm afraid that as exciting as the play is and the heart that the youngsters show, it will only lead ultimately to relegation.

I don't blame the youngsters at all. Neither can JP's naivety be blamed. The total blame rests firmly on the shoulders of Rupert Lowe and his sidekick, the Quisling Wilde.

What the televising of the match made abundantly clear is that there are teams like QPR in the same division as us who have managed to attract serious inward investment from not only high profile names like Briattore and Ecclestone, but then they compound their good fortune by getting somebody on board in Mittal who is richer than Abramovic. And who do we have in charge of us? A couple of small town businessmen called Lowe and Wilde who by comparison to some of the wealthy individuals in British football are paupers.

With every match, it becomes increasingly clearer that other teams have already done their homework on us and put in place a strategy to exploit our weaknesses and that we do not have the personnel, let alone the tactical ability to change the style of play beyond what we have shown in every match so far this season. Even with teams lacking the quality that we have in some of our youngsters, those teams who are typical in this division play differently away than they do at home. An effective tactic away is often to pack the midfield to deny possession to the opposition and hit them on the break. We don't appear to have any change of tactic at all; we play the same way each match, regardless. In short, we are a one trick pony.

It has also become obvious that the mix of players is wrong too and therefore some youngsters have had to make the step up before they were ready to do so. Lancashire today was one example. The tackle that led to Saints playing with a man short was enthusiastic but typical of the naivety of youth. With greater experience in defence, we could have managed a draw today, but as it is we have nothing to show for it except another defeat and presumably a further dent to the confidence of the youngsters which will soon start to play on their minds.

Will be interesting to see the attendances this week as i doubt many if any of the missing fans will return.Football is all about results and i'm not going to waste my money every week watching Saints lose.Unfortunately I'm getting so resigned to disappointment by Saints that when I found out todays score it didn't even hurt anymore.I like many fans are getting totally turned off by Saints which is sad.

Saints need to start winning games to get the fans back not be sitting in the bottom 3

The incident at the time looked worse than it was and I could understand from the refs position why he did it. The disallowed goal would not have happened as KD didnt even try and stop it as the whistle had gone.

Just back from the match. A microcosm of the season ahead I fear - lots of pretty, skillfull football, without end product to match (other than Lalana's brilliant goal), and no real cutting edge.

4-1 was incredibly flattering for a very average QPR side. Big question is, can the kids add steel to the skill. I fear not, but live in hope.

When Crouch did it last year with Skacel and Rasiak i recall you and others giving him slack for it and the main reason you wanted him out. But if Lowe does it now it has to be because the banks said so....We have gone from a high wage team to a very low wage team with majority on youth type contracts. If we cant operate by our own financial means now then we never will. Reling on players to sell off every year to make ends meet is a buinsess strategy destined to fail such is what has happened.

Wes Thank you for your insightful comments but I personnally believe that 'total football' will outdo the dross that is normally on offer. We were out done today but not by a better side. We had 10 men. We had 9 'youth' players who gave QPR (for all their riches) a run for their money (ok kelvin was the busier of the 2 keepers but isn't that his job?) away from home). The score was harsh on us today but we have a future with these youngsters . Keep the faith/

London location and the development potential made QPR a viable investment.

Why did Mittal etc not buy Newcastle or Villa ? We are not such an attractive proposition as we think we are. We are not viewed as a big club and whilst I believe we have potential the money men dont.

At a loss rate of 80% the only future we have is league 1. The question is if we dont improve and do actually get relegated will we keep those players or hype up our under 17's as our saviours?

I surrender, bring back the crap from last season and still get relegated.

Surely the issue is that any kid who plays football at any level, Tyro to Saints, knows that playing pretty football every week but losing is no GOOD and will drain their confedence.

If this continues it will potentially ruin some good young players for this season.

Basically we are in trouble against any forward with strength and pace

Before some one asks the there is always an alternative to Jan.....someone who knows the English game who could have got some old pros and playing the English way. I wasn't there today but the Blackpool game? If ever there was a team who flattered to deceive it was us.

.

That's what we did last season.

Our good experienced pros in the defence last season

Ostlund Thomas Dailly & Iffil lost 5-1 at Preston

Thomas Dailly Davies & Skacel lost 5-0 at Sheff W

Ostlund Powell Thomas & Vignal lost 5-0 at Hull

Each of those defeats were far worse than todays at least we were competing today until the appalling offside decision or lack of. But hey let's get the experienced pros back they know when they're beaten and don't waste energy giving 100% when the games already lost

i dont have any info on the Gasmi situation do you? I was under the impression he had gone back to his club to recouperate.

As for the banks I agree they did let us take on some players but forget not we got rid of a lot of high wage earners to make room for new faces and still have a lower wage bill.Claus alone is massive wage reduction add Rasiak and Saga and you see big savings.

I watched the game with my Bro who is a QPR fan and it was a very odd experience. Credit to him for not going too mental, even though I went quite mental when Lallana scored.

He thought we played excellent football and at times outclassed QPR even with 10 men.

He was also emabarrassed to celebrate QPRs second goal once he saw the replay. It did change the match. We had to chase it after that.

Lancashire, my first impression was: "He's off" which probably means it was the right decision. A bit off me thought the ref might have given him the benefit of the doubt. Debut, only 30 mins, attacker not really going anywhere... But I wasn't really surprised to see the red card.

I think the reason Lancashire played instead of Perry is cos they were worried about QPRs hight from set plays. I think Wotton did OK when he got sent back there.

They were just unlucky, even the SKY dudes knew that, but as my bro also pointed out: Theres been plenty of unlucky teams who got relegated.

Kelvin Davis is doing what Kelvin Davis is supposed to do, and doing it well, but we shouldn't be letting him get anywhere near the ball. Our defence was appalling today. Lancashire's inexperience speaks for itself, but James and Surman are primarily midfielders and Cork was left to hold it together.

I'm all for playing attacking, total football, but we can only let the front 6 players work their magic if the rear 4 defend.

4-1 was very, very harsh, even the biggest pessimist Saints fan could see that. The second goal was offside for a start.

Two home games follow now, and I still don't think 6 points are out of our reach, as long as we can defend better. Keep the faith lads.

QPR could have had 3 or 4 goals while we still had 11 players on the pitch,so lets have some perspective.

JP has seriously underestimated the quality of attacking play that our defense will be up against. He has also seriously overestimated the amount of possession that we will command.

JPs use of midfielders as fullbacks has been sussed by Grayson and Dowie,so they used the ball over the top to destroy our weak flanks.

Dowie did not bother with the long central ball today, because he had a better plan of attack.

JP has been easily outhought by Grayson and Dowie, which amply demonstrates his lack

of experience of the English leagues.

SUCCESS for ALL teams begins with a solid defense,no matter which country you play your football in.We can perhaps forgive a drunk for not appreciating that universal truth,

but not someone who has played in a world cup final.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that JP is on an ego trip, where he has decided on a course of action that he will not deviate from,no matter what the outcome.

The Titanic comes to mind.

There is a proverb that that states "Age and experience will always overcome youthful endeavour"; I understand fully the fiscal problems that we are suffering, but Blackpool, Doncaster, and Bristol City, are three teams with far less financial resources than Saints, but they have structured their squads with 'jouneyman' pros to bolster their own juniors. We could probably get away with 5, or even 6 of the youngsters playing at the same time, but with 9 we are simply not strong enough, physically or mentally.

And for anybody pointing to the win at Pride Park, any Sunday league pub team would have won that fixture. Every team in this division now knows exactly how to beat us, height up front and strength at the back. ( It really doesn't matter if they concede the midfield, we are toothless ).

This season always was about just doing enough to stop up, any more was wishful thinking. ( I hate being so negative about things, but part of 'keeping faith' is to recognise realities and not delude yourself ).

How many games are there to go St.marco? This the Championship where massive change arounds happen. I am annoyed we are in the bottom three whereas Preston who are less of a footballing side are now bleeding third!!!!

No dont get me wrong there is a long long way to go where anything could happen. It is possible we could put 2 wins together and get to mid-table and even put 4-5 wins together and get to the top! Nothing is won or lost in September. The problem is if we go on a run like we are and that % stays the same say into 10 games. That would be 2 wins 6 points from 30. If that happens we will be at the bottom adrift. When your there it is near impossible to come out of it and save yourself. I worry then if that happens what will happen, will Lowe do as Lowe has done before and get rid of Jan and give the job to Wotte or maybe Henderson? The further we fall behind the harder it will be to correct the situation. If the fans are already booing after 4 games imagine what it will be like after 20 if things stay the same.

Praise the Lord we still have supporters like Derry, Elmore and Yorkie. It's many a year since I was last so proud like I am of the fighting spirit of these young warriors who just don't give up. They have nothing to be ashamed of. The British Empire was built by sending such young guys like this into battle and the next generation of success st our club will be built and founded on what we're watching right now. Had Lancashire not been sent off and Holmes not mowed down we would very unlikely not have lost 4 -1.

Jan used his head in playing Lancashire knowing full well he has to blood players to survive a long hard season. Had his options not be reduced he could have played Perry or John later in the game. This was Game 5 and another 41 League games to go. Do people have such short, fickle memories? Would they have prefered to send out a team of donkeys, has beens and mercenaries?

I'm proud of being a Saints supporter again when I see our players battling the way they did. Rome wasn't built in a day and we have other players behind the scenes. We still are entitled to bring in loan players. No need to panic and why did we need to show every other team our game plan, our set pieces on TV? Hopefully that's the last game for a while before the cameras. We hardly ever win when we are on TV.

I'm more worried about all the big money flies that will be buzzing around the Saints jampot hoping to cream off the best of the crop, than how the season will pan out and develop. Davies kept the goals in single figures and a couple of other experienced heads brought in will soon have us winning and picking up points.

Lads, there are some of us who were proud of you, know you'll get there and silence these weak hearted, fickle minded supporters who are just baying for us to fail, for Lowe to be proved wrong. Onwards and very definitively upwards.

Surely the issue is that any kid who plays football at any level, Tyro to Saints, knows that playing pretty football every week but losing is no GOOD and will drain their confedence.

If this continues it will potentially ruin some good young players for this season.

Basically we are in trouble against any forward with strength and pace

I happen to think that any team we have fielded in the last 2 years would have been beaten at QPR. How many 1-5 and 1-4 defeats did we have last season, with the so called experienced underperforming, unfit, unmotivated, couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo, can't deal with free kicks and crosses, experienced, overpaid journeymen.

All descriptions used on here to describe last years team. Short memories, now people here are advocating bringing some of them in. Having sat through more than 30 games last season, no thanks.

As for Skacel walking out on us and leaving us to our own devices, he can rot in the reserves unless he changes his commitment.

Marco I understand your worries dont think I havent had them as well.

Should RL wield the knife now? For me it is far too soon. The first goal and then Holmes (one of our better players this season) getting injured just shows how it is for us, then add to that the off side goal and we really up against it.Saying all that Jan made bad decisions with his team selection.

London location and the development potential made QPR a viable investment.

Why did Mittal etc not buy Newcastle or Villa ? We are not such an attractive proposition as we think we are. We are not viewed as a big club and whilst I believe we have potential the money men dont.

Why didn't Mittal buy Newcastle or Villa? Could it be that they are already owned by quite wealthy individuals? QPR was a cheap club to buy, as are we. People of the wealth of Mittal only buy a club as a rich man's toy and it might be that by buying a London club he can make a statement that his penis is bigger than Abramovich's if he manages to get QPR above Chelski in the Premiership or Europe. But how much more fun would it be for a billionaire to buy a team of no hopers like us and get us to the top of the table? How much more media coverage would it bring him if he managed that?

And make no mistake about it, Worldwide recognition and media coverage is what these people are in it for and crave. The development potential of having a London club probably means nothing to people like Mitall. Most of the footy fans around the World and in Mitall's Indian homeland are probably no more aware of QPR on their personal radar than they are about Saints.

I have read every comment on this thread and cannot disagree with most of the points. I remain ever optimistic but fear the football adage that 'you cannot win anything with kids' will put us on the bottom on Wednesday. I cannot see ua currently improving and I regret to say I do not have any constructive ideas but bring in a number of experienced defenders and midfield players to supplement the younger players who merit our support.

London is location location location. As I said i believe we had tremendous potential but no money man has agreed yet.

I actually really like the way we are trying to play and hope we don't give up on it. However, it is a bit like watching a very talented lightweight boxer fighting in the middleweight division. Even the journeymen are likely to beat us. But as they get experience and get used to what to expect, I can see this team eventually coming good.

Our main problems seem to be defensive organisation and finishing. we're certainly not as bad as our results make us look.

Just thought that from the minute I saw the teamsheet we would be in for a hard day at the office.

When Surman is your most experienced defender (and even he's not a defender) and you have two centre halfs who have never played together before, then I'm afraid it's a big ask for them to get something from a tough away match.

I don't mind a blend of youth, but 9 youngsters (including debutants and others with a handful of games) is a few too many IMHO.

It needs to be a blend, with some old heads and a couple of bruisers in there to help the youngsters.

I certainly don't blame the youngsters for todays defeat, IMHO they should never have been put in that position.

JP made a few wrong calls today and showed his naivety.

BBC Television Centre is being sold off within a couple of years.

A huge, massive site, and just across Wood Lane one of Europe's biggest shopping malls is nearing completion.

That, in itself, would make QPR an attractive proposition, access to a large plot of land in W London on which to build not only a new stadium but also with room to develop all around it. (Forget about a slow property market. They're rich enough to ride that out, an besides, the sort of development they would plan would be for the sort of buyer who doesn't have to worry about paying the mortgage. I don't think Social Housing is on their agenda).

And don't think the BBC landing F1 for £50m is a mere coincidence.

A pal at the Beeb tells me there are all sorts of wheels within wheels, and Bernie Ecclestone has his sights firmly set on the Television Centre site.

That's what made QPR an attractive proposition to a group of rich and powerful businessmen, because it has the potential to make them even more money.

And Southampton and the area around St Mary's has what?

They didn't buy into QPR because Rodney Marsh and Gerry Francis used to play there.

Well it was always going to be a uphill struggle once we were down to 10 men. If we had lost like this with 11 and injury free then I might of been alot more depressed.

We have got to go for it against Ipswich and sorry I will take a scruffy/lucky I don't care win.

And Jan please play 442 at home please.

Don't panic, Mr Mainwaring! We are going to lose some more games yet, probably starting with Ipswich on Wednesday, but we will be okay. These lads might be young, inexperienced & lightweight, but they ARE talented. I admit I only saw the second half, but until their shocking equaliser Saints were giving them a good run for (all of) their money. After that we had to chase the game & most of the chances came from tired legs being caught upfield. I like watching the way we play football, and we surely won't get such sh1t luck every week. Keep the faith, turn up and support them this week & we will be okay
