Professor Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Whether SaintRichmond is right will be clearer after the next two games. One thing that does seem a reasonable conclusion, given that Brighton are a poor, struggling team, is that our squad may well be good, but its not as good as some of us thought. But I don't think Pardew can escape criticism. There is nothing in his post match comments about Brighton being fired up to play for a new manager that should have come as a surprise and the team should have been ready for it. The truth is, we could have been 4 goals down, not just two. He also gifted Brighton the 3rd goal by playing the last 10 minutes without a left back. Pardew is a good manager, but it looks as if Brighton have got a better one!
Kaiser Soze Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Sorry Mr Pardew, but I just have to say this Mr Pardew, Saints versus Brighton, that was Pathetic I have seen Saints Teams in their old Third Division days play better than YOUR lack lustre lot did against Brighton Brighton "Wanted" it, Saints did not Where was the FOOTBALL Mr Pardew. Why the long hoof up in the air all the time, fodder for Division One defenders. All YOUR Team did was kick and run, NO FOOTBALL Mr Pardew It is now quite obvious to me that SFC NEVER had any intention of going for a play off position this season. which is a great pity, because A) We do have the players to get us there. but B) IF you had told us a few months ago, that you were not going to bother this season, then it would have saved a lot of us Supporters a lot of money It is also obvious that this season's "Ambitions" is purely for the Johnstons Paint Trophy, which I for one do not think you will be successful in. An average of 20000 fans have stayed loyal to Saints, and to you Mr Pardew, and all you can do is put out a side that serves us up the Krap we had to endure against Brighton PATHETIC Mr Pardew, Absolutely PATHETIC I am a Season Ticket holder, but at this moment in time, I wish I wasn't, because I feel I have been duped What a load of f//king tripe. Get a f//king grip you mong. Pardew rest assured we are not all clueless pr1cks like the one above.
surrey1saint Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 It was one game, for goodness sake. I agree with you.Over reaction I'd say.Just a little
Pat from Poole Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Have to agree with Chapel-End Charlie - Brighton played very well and made us look ordinary. We didn't have a plan B, they didn't need one as their plan A worked a treat. My biggest disappointment was that we didn't try anything more radical than switching the ball from wing to wing in an effort to disrupt them - they had us totally sussed out and neutralised most of our attacks. Our game was crying out for someone to try a one-two with Rickie through the centre. This is very true. A lot of our possession play was just passing it across to James, who would cross from too deep and we would then lose possession. There were one or two exceptions (e.g. the great cross for Lallana's header in the second-half) but by and large our approach suited Brighton.
saints_is_the_south Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1876320,00.html Just listen to the man, he speaks so much sense after every game - we are lucky to have him.
St Landrew Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 slightly over the top me, i am annoyed by this stupid rule that gives away fans priority over home fans for certain games, does anyone know of any other clubs which restricts home fans going home to let away ones out LOCK EM IN Isn't it obvious why they let the away fans out, before the home fans then..?
egreog Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Scary that we have "supporters" who turn a manager from a hero to villain in 90 minutes......everyone has an off day..........this was one!.........reality check needed!

I Thought Brighton played out of their skin tonight; and hats off to them, most likely because of their new manager. Yes we assumed this was going to be a walk in the park until we went 2-0 down. I did, and so did the Saints team too. However just like England B vs Brazil this gives us a few things to learn from.
Saint_clark Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Guess the sensible amongst us should wait until tomorrow before we try and discuss the game.

Hell even Man U lost to Burnley
joffystevens Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 **** me next thing you'll want him sacked im confident we can bounce back with a good performance against norwich and then you'll think the sun shines out his arse over reaction or what??? ahaha
Bailey Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Pardew spoke a lot of sense after the game and openly admitted that we weren't good enough today. I think the OPer is over-reacting massively, it is just one bad result after all. I wouldn't bet against us getting back to winning ways against Norwich next Saturday after today's disappointment.
Saint in Paradise Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Crispypie yeah, i want my money back! And for all those games i saw that we won. We must have faking when we played, i'm going to support rugby now. Does anybody know whose good? New Zealand Their All Black fans are not that happy with them at the moment and a lot dislike the Coach Graham Henry
Secret Site Agent Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Well, talk about the *Pattellar Reflex. In answer to SaintRichmonds' tirade against Alan Pardew: It is now quite obvious to me that SFC NEVER had any intention of going for a play off position this season. It would be nice if you could point out where he stated that we would be pushing for a play off place. Consolidation in this league is the target for this season I believe, as stated by him and Cortez. B) IF you had told us a few months ago, that you were not going to bother this season, then it would have saved a lot of us Supporters a lot of money I think you should see above, as I believe they did say that very thing. It is also obvious that this season's "Ambitions" is purely for the Johnstons Paint Trophy, which I for one do not think you will be successful in. I don't see why not, we have already gone through to the next round, and have as much chance as the next team with the players we have, you have already mentioned that. An average of 20000 fans have stayed loyal to Saints, and to you Mr Pardew, and all you can do is put out a side that serves us up the Krap we had to endure against Brighton And so they should stay loyal. How many of these loyal fans will no longer stay loyal after one game now.? based on this forum it is 1 in 64. So, good bye 312 fickle fans, hello 1000 plastics and probably another 5000 returning now that the football is better, and confidence is high. I am a Season Ticket holder, but at this moment in time, I wish I wasn't, because I feel I have been duped Well, thanks for coming. It really has been a rollercoaster ride. So see you later, bye. And don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out. You can go and support the big 4 now, as they never lose games. (*Note: The terrm, 'Knee Jerk Reaction', comes from the tendency of the knee to jerk involuntarily when hit sharply, properly called the patellar reflex. That was recorded by Sir Michael Foster in his Text-book of physiology, 1877: "Striking the tendon below the patella gives rise to a sudden extension of the leg, known as the knee-jerk." The term began to be used figuratively from the early 20th century onwards.)
spd Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 I just cannot believe some of the comments on this forum, its like the lunatics have been let out of the asylum! Prior to the Brighton game one defeat in fourteen and at times playing good football. Brighton played well above themselves and a number of our players were below par,s..t happens!! Ithink a number of our supporters are getting well ahead of themselves talking of wembley, play offs etc - games are not won on paper! Pardew is a good manager at this level certainly, keep the faith and its the way we bounce back which is important.
doggface Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 We were poor yesterday pretty much all over the pitch - that said we had some great chances to get something particularly 2nd half. This was however a bad performance and result in the scope of things. The team has been excellent in recent weeks so I hope this is just a blip. Strong sides will show strength & character and bounce back when set back. Perfect opportunity vs Norwich to put it right, that will tell us more about the team IMO than Sunday.
rooney Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 I am feeling as miserable as everyone else today. Brighton were up for it and we did not have the desire, coupled with some bad mistakes and poor performances from some players. AP knew exactly what went wrong from his comments on Radio Solent. We have got to move on, having learned a lot, and after our defeat of Norwich next Saturday, all this will have been forgotten and we shall be happy again.
CB Fry Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Well, talk about the *Pattellar Reflex. I'm not defending SaintRichmond who is the biggest spanner on the forum by a country mile - I'm only surprised he didn't manage to blame Lowe for yesterday such are his scattergun garbage rants - but Pardew has spoken about aiming for the play offs this season. At no point has Pardew said he just wants to consolidate this season. I can't remember what Cortese has said, but Pards is definitely still up for top six. He aint no George Burley aiming as low as humanly possible and then make out he is a managerial mastermind by achieving it.
JackFrost Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 I'm not defending SaintRichmond who is the biggest spanner on the forum by a country mile - I'm only surprised he didn't manage to blame Lowe for yesterday such are his scattergun garbage rants - but Pardew has spoken about aiming for the play offs this season. He aint no George Burley aiming as low as humanly possible and then make out he is a managerial mastermind by achieving it. I try not to watch Scotland games now, as they bring back chilling memories;) Whilst it was a poor performance last night albeit against a team with a new manager (teams always play well just after a new manager is installed), if it was up to idiots like SaintRichmond we'd have 20 managers a season. The key thing is now, (and Pardew knows it) we need a reaction.
Roger Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Whether SaintRichmond is right will be clearer after the next two games. You were harping on about that when we were winning game after game, bet you feel silly now? Our defence isnt good enough for 442 and the 451 protects it aswell as getting lallana into a better position. I feel waigo should come back as antonio is a good sub but his final ball isnt great.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1876320,00.html Just listen to the man, he speaks so much sense after every game - we are lucky to have him. He says the same things that every manager says after a defeat - its easy for managers to spin an interview as they restict questions and walk away if tough questions get asked. Biggest question AP needs to answer is why (with the team, support and money spent) are we still in 22nd place. AP wanted out of the bottom 4 within 10 games!!!!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 It would be nice if you could point out where he stated that we would be pushing for a play off place. Consolidation in this league is the target for this season I believe, as stated by him and Cortez. AP stated (a number of times) that top 2 was his target THIS SEASON - the only people hoping/wanting a season of consolidation was a small number on here.
ericofarabia Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Thanks for putting a smile back on my face Presumably Mr Richmond didn't watch any of last seasons games, (bar Derby away). We strung more passes together in y'days game than virtually the whole of last season put together. Yes we went for the early ball a few times too many, a lot of easy passes went astray, but the game was a very entertaining affair (unfortunately Brighton didn't read the script and roll over and die). We had plenty of chances to have got back into and even win the game which on another day we'd have put away. My god last season there were plenty of games where we barely had an attempt on goal Guess we picked the wrong week to play Brighton, next week will be a real test of character, lets see how we react.
saint_neilo Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 I am getting fed up with Saints Fickle Fans FFS we have just been 8 games un beaten and they have 1 off game and we are the worst team ever again grow up FFS. We had a lot against us last night they had a new boss so were playing for there places, we had the chance to get out of the relegation zone, the media were hyping us up to be pretty much un beatable and saying that we will win JPT so im not suprized they had an off day but to say that our team are pathetic is just stupid IMO!!!!
sunrise Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Saint Richmond, are you sure you're not a skate in disguise? It was 1 bad game, the unbeaten streak had to come to an end somewhen. Compared to the total crap we were served up last season, its been refreshing to see a decent string of results put together until yesterday. I wonder if the players are starting to think about a trip to Wembley and its taken their eye off the league slightly?

Beer Engine Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Actually I thought we played quite well. The defence went AWOL for 15 minutes in the first half and we missed a few chances. Apart from that it was OK. I thought that our approach to the game needed more variation. I think it was obvious that we weren't going to get very far continually pumping high balls into the box. I would like to have seen much more passing on the deck and intelligent movement. Pardew has worked miracles considering how poor we have been for years and considering that the squad was in tatters a few days before the season started. I think Saint Richmond is overreacting in the face of a single bad result in anotherwise impressive sequence.
saint stu 20 Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 hes just some stupid t****r whos obviously thinks that because weve now got money were going to be invincible, of course we will lose a game here and there, the fact that yesterdays loss was the first in a considerable period just makes me laugh at how stupid some fans can be at times, absolutely pathetic and childish!

I think Saint Richmond is overreacting in the face of a single bad result in anotherwise impressive sequence. I kind of agree, it was like a flash back to previous games this season where we haven't had any real pattern to our play and it's all been a bit hit and hope. But we did have a fair bit of the % in the 2nd half and probably should have got it back to 2-2 with hammonds chance. Found it quite funny reading the programme, and pard's said they want clean sheets...it didn't look like that in the first 20mins! We could have been 4-0 down by then!
Toadhall Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Pathetic - that about sums up the OP.
jam Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 CB Fry, my apologies if he has, I have just not heard him say anything about the top six to my memory, just that this season was for consolidation. So I stand corrected. Regarding Cortese's aims for the season... Cortese is also extremely ambitious. At their recent game against Charlton, Addicks chairman Richard Murray asked Cortese where he hoped Southampton would finish this season. "I told him we wanted to win the league," replied Cortese. "He was about to take a sip of wine but put his glass down without drinking any." Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/09/back_from_the_brink_southampto.html
aintforever Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 I still can't decide wether SaintRichmond is taking the P or just crazy?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 appalling, when will we keep a clean sjeet and win convincingly. We concede more than a goal a game, James is shocking, he was at fault at the back several times Like I said last night, keeping a clean sheet is often irrelevant if you are taking your chances up the other end. (And I know we didn't take our chances last night and so it is important in this instance, but this is looking at a wider view). Looking at these games: We beat Gillingham 4-1 Southend 3-1 Oldham 3-1 MK Dons 3-1 So we didn't keep clean sheets in those games but we still won convincingly. Yes, it is still conceding a goal a game but we also scored 13 goals in those 4 games which can't be complained at really, can it?
dellgirl Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Brighton were better than us on the day, it will happen,we have surprised a few teams lately as well, Yes it was a poor day for us but not a disaster ,we will live to fight another day nobody was injured and we will probably win on Saturday as the wake up call will have sunk in. Yes we have a team, but it still needs tweaking and the manager knows this. Keep the faith and the belief and support our team every inch of the way ,it really matters that we do through poor games as well as the great ones, we were awful yesterday, the minutes silence was only supposed to last for a minute not the whole game, let's hear from you all on Saturday. I love my team but. they still need our help in every way
Cabrone Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Whilst I'm still not convinced about AP (too timid in the games I've seen IMO) the original post is way OTT. Every team will have a dodgy game here and there and hopefully this was it. We've had something like 8 unbeaten before yesterday so I think its only fair to lay off the guy. However if we lose the next couple of games - one against Norwich - we'll slip back in the relegation zone and the pressure will ratchet up so fingers crossed this was just a blip and a valuable lesson learned.
West End Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Cant say I agree with the OP as many have pointed out on this & other threads we created enough chances to win the game. Brighton played very very well we had a off day sh1t happens we have no right to beat anybody in this league we need to win that right they were better than us on the day. I think the team have now had a wake up call and think we will be back to winning ways 1 defeat should not generate posts like this one we have come a long way & AP has done a great job. I trust that AP will sort this blip out I would like to see us start 4 5 1 against Norwich & get back to winning ways we are a very good side in this league & even with a below par performance still look like scoring wasnt till the 3rd went in that I started to think we would lose up till then I thought we would go on & win it. A bit of perspective & paitence is required 1 loss dont make us a bad sode just as 7 wins dont mean we will win the league.I have been very impressed with how much we have improved under AP he is doing a great job
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Aaaaah, this thread takes me back! It's like November 2007 all over again.
Calvin Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Talk about overreaction considering that it takes time to build up a new squad. The ambition is to win every game we play, but unfortunately you can't expect teams in football to win every single game.
saint_stevo Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Pathetic for the first 30mins IMO. but if Hammond hadn't cacked himself and blazed over and Lallana hadn't missed a header from 8 yards we would maybe all be commenting on a great comeback
RonManager Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 The ambition is to win every game we play, but unfortunately you can't expect teams in football to win every single game. If Bill Shankly or Alf Ramsey had said that, it would be one of those footballing phrases that pundits and journos would reel off ad nauseum. Spot on.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Have to agree with Chapel-End Charlie - Brighton played very well and made us look ordinary. Yes, I saw that as well! Why did Pardew tell Papa to go out on the wing when he came on, he wou have been better deployed running through the centre where he will scare their centre backs and can pick up the passes or flicks from Lambert and Lallana. We were stinking gash yesterday and didn't have any way of changing the game in our favour, it's that lack of options that is glaringly obvious and should be Pards priority when the window opens, plus we still need to get either a sweeper or a centre back with pace, as Jaidi and Thomas looked very slow yesterday. That performance looked as though the team had been reading all of the billy big boll*x posts on here that said we'd win the game easily and were predicting 6-0 wins for us, complacency is the usual killer word in these circumstances and it seems very apt here, both for the fans and the team. Another performance like that next week will take a long time to recover from, especially as we are now entering the period of the season where Saints traditionally do very poorly and don't pick up many points, so please lads bring the pride and the passion back against Norwich on Saturday. I'd still like to see Papa played through the middle with Lambert, and Holmes and Antonio on the wings supplying them with the ammo, would think we would be more deadly playing that way, and it would help to pin the oppo's full backs back, as they always seem to be our downfall.
Johnny Shearer Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Yon know what reading throught it again I think SR is having us all on.

VectisSaint Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 That performance looked as though the team had been reading all of the billy big boll*x posts on here that said we'd win the game easily and were predicting 6-0 wins for us, complacency is the usual killer word in these circumstances and it seems very apt here, both for the fans and the team. Another performance like that next week will take a long time to recover from, So if that performance was bad because they were reading all the billy big ****** posts on here, we should win the next one 10-0 if they read all the suicide jockeys comments on here after one slightly below par performance.
Lazlo78 Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Yon know what reading throught it again I think SR is having us all on. I certainly hope so. All the funny responses do make me feel quite reassured though. Funny how a thread like this can turn out for the best
mynameisthehulk Posted 16 November, 2009 Posted 16 November, 2009 Thought we were the better side apart from the first 15 minutes when BAHA looked like they would have run through a wall for the new manager, then they scored on the break near the end. Antonio does look like a one trick pony for me though, Waigo for me every time, and 451....
Charlie Wayman Posted 17 November, 2009 Posted 17 November, 2009 I missed this one as away on holiday. Oh Dear! It seems certain now that we will be fighting the specter of Relegation all season. On this showing, promotion is doubtless beyond us this time however fanciful our notions and ambitions had become with recent successes. Otherwise had a great holiday, lots of sun, sea and sand AND with FREE room Premiership football pretty much every day although 5 hours behind local time. Didn't fly with Flybe 'though as they don't go far beyond Eastleigh airport. Used Emirates instead... Yes, (sigh) I know... closet Gooner. But, fair do's guys, they can knock it around a bit pretty, can they not?
