NickG Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 win would put us two places higher. 19th Orient 16 points 20th Brighton 14 points ----------------------- 21st Stockport 14 points 22nd Saints 12 points plus we have best goal difference out of top 7.

Win tomorrow and after a run of 1 defeat in 15 matches we will be 20th in the League. Illustrates how poor our start to the season was and with a 10 point deduction how difficult it will be to get to the play-offs even on current form. But I think we could do it.

Has to be our target - in this league every game is winnable.
Toomer Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 We have won four cup matches so far this season (be it one on pens) who would rather have had the points. The League and FA Cup I would take the points but stay in the paint pot has we have a chance to go all the way.
Professor Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 As Saints climb the table there will be some areas where teams are clustered together. A win against Brighton not only gets us out of the relegation zone, but it brings the teams currently in 15th to 19th places into sight. If we win the next home game, not all five of those teams will fail to gain a point, but after a 2-place step up if we beat Brighton, another 2 or 3 places is feasible if we beat Norwich. Norwich are a strong side, but no more so than MK Dons or Charlton, so a win is not an unreasonable prospect, but it does make the Norwich game possibly the biggest test so far. Still, lets get Brighton out of the way first.
Saint Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 It's got to the stage where i expect to win every match. I knew we'd beat Charlton, and the only disappointment was not keeping a clean sheet. The only team i think will give us any threat now is Leeds.
Arizona Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 I've said on another thread, but I really don't find it that exciting. We've managed to score 10 points more than the teams around us in under 1/3 of the season. Even with our poor start. Somehow I doubt we will be competing with the cellar dwellars come the end of the season. We hammered the MK Dons and made Charlton look like a pub team. To say 2-1 flattered them is an understatement. We should have scored 5 and their goal was more offside than BWP, Waigo and Leon Best put together. On the plus side, at least next time we hammer one of the top half teams, we wont have to put up with retarded fans saying, "We should be beating Southampton, they're in the bottom three for a reason FFS!"

Charlton won 5 1 today did they have their full team out on Wednesday

No, he wasn't when the ball was played. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8356918.stm Roughly 1 minute 40 secs in.

I said 20s before that clip. That starts at 1:40 and the goal is scored at 1:50. The offside occurs before their bloke on the right has a shot. The move starts with him latching onto a hopeful punt over the top. Anyway, that's fairly trivial in the scheme of things. Other than Burton's lunge well wide a few minutes before and Barts initial save before the goal, I don't think Charlton had any other real chances all match.
alpine_saint Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 Dunno what to think of tomorrows game. We are oh so much better than them, but they have a new manager AND the Saints of old fluff their lines in games like this.

If we do not win this by 2 or 3 clear goals we need to storm the stadium and burn it down.

Completely agree - I was dead in line with the defenders where I was sat and he was at least 2 yards offside. Linesman was a good couple of yards slower and totally missed it.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 14 November, 2009 Posted 14 November, 2009 I predict we will lose no more than four more league games this season..... we are on fire!
gjphilsaint Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 and the beauty is that as well catch up with those teams in our immediate vicinity on the table we will always have a far superior GD, so catch them up on points and we automatically leap over them on GD..
