slickmick Posted 16 November, 2009 Share Posted 16 November, 2009 Stick the reserves in. Stupid cup that cost us three points yesterday. All the previous talk about losing will end our run and knock our confidence is rubbish. It wont knock the confidence of the players that are rested. I still believe we can make the play offs, but the longer we play in this cup using our best eleven players the less likely it will happen. I hope we put the reserves out for the next round, if not then I hope we get knocked out.

If we play a league game mid-week, but lose the weekend one..do we blame the mid-week game? It's exactly the same scenario imo - in this league you have to be prepared and fit enough to play saturday - tuesday - saturday - wednesday etc.

I bet you would struggle to remember who won this cup 2 years ago, so little is its importance. Can you imagine telling your kids/grandkids that you saw the mighty Saints play the mighty Acrington Stanley in the paint pot cup in 2010 ? No, I'd be to embarrassed. You pick out Trotman but fail to mention the static Lambert or non existant Hammond. Only two players came out of that game with any credit and thats two players who havn't played many games this season and are fighting for a first team place (Connelly and Thomas). So your theory can be used both ways.
CB Saint Posted 16 November, 2009 Share Posted 16 November, 2009 Mick you are not the first person on here to consider the JPT a sh1thouse competition, however for a club like ours in the first division it is one of the few opportunities we will get to win some silverware. Granted its not the same as the FA Cup, but seriously once the big boys are entered into the draw our existance in that competition will be short lived. Given all the misery that we have endured over the last few years, I would love to be able to go to wembley in the JPT. If the experience is anything like what it was in 2003 (result aside) it would be worth it. Yes, the league comes first but fielding a team of reserves would not be the right way. On yesterdays performance we would have been done 8 -0 and that would have had an impact on the whole club which ever way you look at it.
Big John Posted 17 November, 2009 Share Posted 17 November, 2009 We'll be talking about the JPT for many years to come if we get to Wembley. Imagine how great it would be if we can actually win our firts trophy for more than 30 years. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a sell out if it's us versus Leeds too. Wembley is a magical place and a magical word, I would love to go. We still enthuse about the ZDS and remember the squad fondly don't we? How is Kevin Moore by the way, anyone got an update? Arizona Posted 17 November, 2009 Share Posted 17 November, 2009 I'd actually like us to not get promoted, but win the FA Cup. That way, next season we can be the first team every to win a sextuple (probably): The League, FA Cup, League Cup, JPT, Community Shield and Europa League. I'd have to agree. I can understand why they do it, so they don't need to employ too many ticket office staff in the evening but I'd still have thought they'd recoup their wage costs pretty quickly on what they're probably paying them. Maybe they could have just increased the prices after say 5ish, after normal office hours on the match day and so still giving home fans who make a late decision the opportunity to buy tickets at the lower price. krissyboy31 Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 We should only rest a first team player if they are carrying a knock imo. AP said the whole squad is going to be needed over the Christmas period. We've got a few close to suspension and we're bound to pick up a knock or two. I think any player on 4 bookings will be rested for Norwich because Leeds is more imported.

If someone's got a knock then go ahead and rest them, don't think we should be resting anyone so they don't pick up a booking though, who do we have on four? Harding, Jaidi and James? The only one of those I'd consider resting would be Jaidi, he's quite important to us. Harding and James we have adequate cover for. I do feel Pardew should bring off a few of the more important players after 70 minutes when we're winning 3-1. Hammond and Lambert seem to play the majority of every game, take them off once the games won rather than rest them completely.

eelpie Posted 7 December, 2009 Share Posted 7 December, 2009 Stick the reserves in. Concentrate on the Leeds game. No. I think we should play our best team against the Canaries and do our best against Leeds. On paper Leeds should prevail, though we are capable of winning or drawing. Defeat at Leeds will not affect our long term aims, but winning the JPT will be a colossal psychological plus. (Not that I'm saying we shouldn't go all out to beat Leeds. But the Norwich match comes first and we take one step at a time.) It would be bizarre to play a weakened team against Norwich. That is not our style any more! Rut Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 Getting a bit worried about all this. I've booked a trip back to England in March - fly back to USA Thurs 24 March. The Final at Wembley is 4 days later. Saints will be there - guaranteed. This could be dipsh*t planning at it's best... Of course I meant Thurs 25 (not 24) March. I do now get the Swindon & Hartlepool home games but yep - 'dipsh*t planning' this one!!!! Still - thinking about it - I ain't too bothered. After all tickets will be 60 quid, there will be engineering works & replacement buses on the trains, it's gonna p*ss down with rain (and snow), the trains will be dry & all the pubs will be shut & they won't be selling beer in the ground, Carlisle will win 3-0, I'd end up sat in front of some div who'd never been to a game before and thinks he is at the cinema, I'd lose my wallet and end up arrested. Quite glad I'm flying back to the USA 4 days before :-)
