First woman joins Red Arrows

Would I be right in thinking that people serving on nuclear subs have to agree to some form of anonimity agreement? Would her picture appear in the papers if one ever did get to go down there.

What with your subsequent post, you're determined to shoe horn in some fellatio related innuendo aren't you? ;-)

We won't do this... Not in the near future anyway or on any class of Red Arrow in service or being built...

Thank god to be honest... Would be the end of an effective Red Arrow service for the UK

As for women on our Red Arrows... Can imagine a week in to a highly detailed display in highly expensive air show and a women turned round and said she was pregnant and/or had complications..

Never going to happen with any of our Red Arrows in service, in build or planned for build.

Even if I did my full time in the Red Arrow service I will never see it...

And as I have said. THANK FUK

There is not one Pilot I know who used to serve on Red Arrows before women did who say the operational capability got better when women were allowed on

infact all say it was the start of the decline In the Red Arrow fleet

why are women generally kept away from the specialist elements of the Red Arrows.?

Also, do you really think I care what anyone writes on this place. Well those who have never worked in the Red Arrows on display

ask yourself this. Why are women kept away from the Red Arrows and Air Shows in general

With women... It's not about their capability, as of course this would not be a problem. It is a medical issue added to that if you go down the Farnborough Air Show you would see that you live out of each others pockets in air

for example a Red Arrow plane would take around 1 pilot to air and that 1 has 0 sinks, 0 toilets and 0 showers. The sleeping and washing arrangements alone would make it very difficult when you are doing 1 hour display then 6 hours off 1 on, 6 off etc. No let up in that routine for minutes/hours on end

it just wonT work or not have an effect on the overall operational capability. Which on a Red Arrow on operations that are mostly on public display is everything..

What do you do with their jam rags? Lol

Sweden don't have Red arrows planes which is part of the issue. Also very few countries in the world (us the yanks and the Russians). Are capable of the Air Shows that we do. Which to put on a good show is essential.

So verbal and sotonjoe

you two seem to be the experts and not me who has been in the job for a decade. Why am I wrong? Why do women not serve on Air Show display teams the world over... Please correct me with the facts.

Thanks

The 2 resident experts will tell me I am wrong without having the first clue what they are on about.

In a nutshell. When you serve on board a Red Arrow you are flying in close proximity to birds for minutes/hours on end. Not like if you worked in a bird sanctuary where you go home and away from said birds when you finish work.

To that end you get subjected to doses of ear-popping as well a other potentionally harmfull atmospheric elements. It is a scientiic fact (which all nations with display teams follow) that the ear-popping received will potentionally cause more harm to the female ears than those of male. It is a fact that the constant dose received over a long period of time could very well caus harm to a womens sensitive ear drum. And that is a risk that no nation is ready to take. There us more to it but that is one reason with regards to the ear-popping on the job. There are plenty of others.

Add that to the sleeping and living arrangements on what is a very cramped operational plane

Going to air and conducting an air show in public on a Red Arrow is unique and can't be compared to anything else.

I could go on but on my iPhone so will leave it there.

I'm surprised to be honest that it has taken so long.

Red Arrows, welcome to the 21st century.

+1

While we're on this topic, It made me laugh when I heard/read people's comments (not on here I hasten to add) to the appointment of the first female poet laureat (sp?): Lord Tennyson will be spinning in his graves - mongs!

I'm sure she'll be fine. They wouldn't have her there unless she was brilliant.

absolutely, there's no reason what-so-ever for women not being allowed in the red arrows. here in the 21st century, sexism has to be kicked into touch, along with racism.

and when new maternity laws are passed in the next year or so entitling men to take lots more leave, then men will be just as likely to request 6 months off work to raise the sproggs.

lets go off-topic quickly, I think the women's England cricket team should play the men's cricket team at least once a year. it would be hugely benificial for both, and lets face it, the men have everything to lose. and then this should open the floodgates (oo-pardon) for more unisex sports. if we're going to allow celtic and rangers in the prem, why not go the whole hog and invite the laydeez into more sports?

This is a totally different debate, but until I can breast feed there is no way Im going to be allowed (by my wife) to take 6 months off and see her go back to work.
