Is it just me...when we had a spell of playing them in the late 70s/early 80s this fixture had a 'derby' feel to it, those away days were memorable :smt023 ...but now?

I know we only have the one 'local derby' but although it's a 'South Coast derby' in the same way as Bournemuff is but there's not the intense feeling there for either of those clubs for me.

I was away when we last played them at SMS, do we still drown out their 'Seagulls' chant with "SEAWEED, SEAWEED, etc." like we did in the old days? :)

Still eagerly anticipating this game, 'appy days.

Have we ever played them at SMS

Think i will go over Itchen Bridge today and avoid Burseldon Road as presumably Brighton will be coming in that way

Whoop whoop I managed to switch my shift at work today, which means that while I had to get up at silly o clock this morning, I now finish in time to bomb it over to my folks, kick them off the TV from whatever they were watching (Last of the SUmmer Wine or some such guff), and watch it. Come on lads, make it worth it!

If a Saint down under was interested in watching said game, and the only way was through the internet, does anyone know where that Saint could locate the game.

In other words is this game shown online anywhere?

Yes,I remember the 'derby' matches from the old Division 2,and then in the 1st Division.

I recall us thrashing them 5-0 in the Phil Boyer era,and also beating them 2-0 at The Goldstone in the F.A Cup c 1986 which was a great day out.

Lets not forget the last match at The Dell,a special occasion in which BHA entered into it and even started a 'if you all hate Pompey clap your hands'.

As for the 'Seaweed' chant, that seems a bit too innocent now.At the last match at The Dell it was replaced with 'does your boyfriend know you're here', and 'your just a town full of faggots'.

Such chanting seemed to be taken in good spirit by the BHA lot who partook in the mutual pitch invasion at the end.

Funny thing is i have never really seen them as rivals' date='[/b'] just to**ers who wanted to be as good as us.

Did enjoy the trips down the A27 to the Goldstone

They were during 1977/8 when we were neck and neck for promotion. The fact they were on the south coast did add a bit more of a dimension to it for many.

One Brighton fan I know swears to this day that Saints and the yids conspired to draw 0-0 on the last game of the season which prevented BHA from joining Saints in Division 1 as we were already up.

He conveniently ignores, no matter how many times I have told him, the fact Tony Funnell had a shot against the post.

Onto today, looking forward to it,hope it does have a 'derby' needle to it.

The Brighton days out on the 'football specials' run by British Rail are imprinted on my memory. Those were the days.....got trodden on by a Police horse down there once...ouch !

Memory probably playing tricks but wasn't Brighton the opponents for the first match played at SMS because they were the first team to play at the Dell.

Beat them 2-1 at SMS, think Blackstock scored.

Crainie brought the ball out from LB, great interchange of passes leading to the goal at the Northam end. I keep thinking this was the game where Walcott scored with a great lob of the goalie from the LH side, in front of the Northam? Was that game against Millwall?

You're probably right but I thought that was Arsenal MLT goal etc.

MLT scored the last league goal in the last league match at The Dell, we played Brighton in the last game at The Dell Rosler scored.

Why did we play Brighton?? Did Le Tiss play? Confused...is this when the seats were taken as momentos?

Arsenal = Last league match at the Dell. Final goal by MLT.

Brighton = Last overall match at the Dell (because they were the first ever opponents at the Dell). Stadium scrapped for souvenirs. Can't remember details or lineup...

Kickoff time here in CET is 5:30, so quite bad with regards to dinner and kids. But I just convinced the missus that we can always have dinner tomorrow and that sending me to the pub is a good idea.

Pretty pleased with myself right now :D

Thanks again to the MLT night, we discovered that CCC & L1 TV rights down here were passed on to Al Jazeera, so that means 4 of us will be off down to our old haunt of Goodfellas

(Of course, being an Arabic channel, which advertises their schedules in Arabic, it's only taken us a thrid of a season to work this out - doh)

(sans Eric this evening - think he failed a fitness test after last night)

ok ok he's working

i can see Brighton nicking this one.

I'm gonna put a pound on 1-0 Brighton unfortunatly! Sorry.

Just i can see them scoring an early goal and then just sitting and holding out. Were not very good against teams who just sit so i'm predicting a 1-0 to Brighton!

Just because its Poyet's first game in charge!

Gutted, I am feeling like cr@p and can not go to the game today. Will have to stay home and watch it on line. 4-0 victory toady with 2 from Lambert, 1 from Conolly and 1 other.

Blimey Merrington sounds upbeat and not whispering :D

Not going to be easy looking at Brightons away record its similar to ours if you take away our win at either Southend or Oldham.

COYRs

Keeping my fingers crossed for the live streaming.

Just watching the pre-match stuff at home in the Alps: good ol' technology! Shall I have the Adnams Broadside, Marstons Pedigree or Fullers ESB: best go down to the cellar and get some of all of them!

Please let me see them win....
