alehouseboys Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Is it just me...when we had a spell of playing them in the late 70s/early 80s this fixture had a 'derby' feel to it, those away days were memorable :smt023 ...but now? I know we only have the one 'local derby' but although it's a 'South Coast derby' in the same way as Bournemuff is but there's not the intense feeling there for either of those clubs for me. I was away when we last played them at SMS, do we still drown out their 'Seagulls' chant with "SEAWEED, SEAWEED, etc." like we did in the old days? Still eagerly anticipating this game, 'appy days.
alehouseboys Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 ...looks like they sent back 1,000 tickets. http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?t=162433

Have we ever played them at SMS Think i will go over Itchen Bridge today and avoid Burseldon Road as presumably Brighton will be coming in that way
Saint_clark Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Have we ever played them at SMS Once, 05/06 season. Can't remember the score, but we won 2-0 away. Richard Chaplow scored.
SNSUN Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Whoop whoop I managed to switch my shift at work today, which means that while I had to get up at silly o clock this morning, I now finish in time to bomb it over to my folks, kick them off the TV from whatever they were watching (Last of the SUmmer Wine or some such guff), and watch it. Come on lads, make it worth it!
70's Mike Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Funny thing is i have never really seen them as rivals, just to**ers who wanted to be as good as us. Did enjoy the trips down the A27 to the Goldstone
saints_is_the_south Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Once, 05/06 season. Can't remember the score, but we won 2-0 away. Richard Chaplow scored. Beat them 2-1 at SMS, think Blackstock scored.
Greedyfly Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 If a Saint down under was interested in watching said game, and the only way was through the internet, does anyone know where that Saint could locate the game. In other words is this game shown online anywhere?

Yes,I remember the 'derby' matches from the old Division 2,and then in the 1st Division. I recall us thrashing them 5-0 in the Phil Boyer era,and also beating them 2-0 at The Goldstone in the F.A Cup c 1986 which was a great day out. Lets not forget the last match at The Dell,a special occasion in which BHA entered into it and even started a 'if you all hate Pompey clap your hands'. As for the 'Seaweed' chant, that seems a bit too innocent now.At the last match at The Dell it was replaced with 'does your boyfriend know you're here', and 'your just a town full of faggots'. Such chanting seemed to be taken in good spirit by the BHA lot who partook in the mutual pitch invasion at the end.
Badger Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Funny thing is i have never really seen them as rivals' date='[/b'] just to**ers who wanted to be as good as us. Did enjoy the trips down the A27 to the Goldstone They were during 1977/8 when we were neck and neck for promotion. The fact they were on the south coast did add a bit more of a dimension to it for many. One Brighton fan I know swears to this day that Saints and the yids conspired to draw 0-0 on the last game of the season which prevented BHA from joining Saints in Division 1 as we were already up. He conveniently ignores, no matter how many times I have told him, the fact Tony Funnell had a shot against the post. Onto today, looking forward to it,hope it does have a 'derby' needle to it.
RedWillie Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 The Brighton days out on the 'football specials' run by British Rail are imprinted on my memory. Those were the days.....got trodden on by a Police horse down there once...ouch !

Third Division South Days Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Have we ever played them at SMS Think i will go over Itchen Bridge today and avoid Burseldon Road as presumably Brighton will be coming in that way Memory probably playing tricks but wasn't Brighton the opponents for the first match played at SMS because they were the first team to play at the Dell.
Badger Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Memory probably playing tricks but wasn't Brighton the opponents for the first match played at SMS because they were the first team to play at the Dell. Last match at The Dell.
surrey1saint Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Should be dry for the match, according to Met office website.
benjii Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Is the pitch OK after all the rain? I expect it got a bit wet.
Third Division South Days Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Last match at The Dell. You're probably right but I thought that was Arsenal MLT goal etc.

I keep thinking this was the game where Walcott scored with a great lob of the goalie from the LH side, in front of the Northam? Was that game against Millwall?
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 I'm not expecting slick passing today as I expect the pitch will be very heavy after all the rain. However, we should still win this comfortably if we don't get too complacent.

I keep thinking this was the game where Walcott scored with a great lob of the goalie from the LH side, in front of the Northam? Was that game against Millwall? Luton, I think...
sperm_john Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 we are going to win, ive come home for the game, last game i travelled back for was MK dons, and we won 3-1, same again? lol
Vershinin Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Just bout to leave, can't wait for this. 3-1 Saints COYR

Toomer Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 You're probably right but I thought that was Arsenal MLT goal etc. MLT scored the last league goal in the last league match at The Dell, we played Brighton in the last game at The Dell Rosler scored.
Jonnyboy Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 MLT scored the last league goal in the last league match at The Dell, we played Brighton in the last game at The Dell Rosler scored. Why did we play Brighton?? Did Le Tiss play? Confused...is this when the seats were taken as momentos?
Lazlo78 Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Why did we play Brighton?? Did Le Tiss play? Confused...is this when the seats were taken as momentos? Arsenal = Last league match at the Dell. Final goal by MLT. Brighton = Last overall match at the Dell (because they were the first ever opponents at the Dell). Stadium scrapped for souvenirs. Can't remember details or lineup...
Lazlo78 Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Kickoff time here in CET is 5:30, so quite bad with regards to dinner and kids. But I just convinced the missus that we can always have dinner tomorrow and that sending me to the pub is a good idea. Pretty pleased with myself right now
Matthew Le God Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Why did we play Brighton?? Did Le Tiss play? Confused...is this when the seats were taken as momentos? Because the first ever game at the Dell was against Brighton.
dubai_phil Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Thanks again to the MLT night, we discovered that CCC & L1 TV rights down here were passed on to Al Jazeera, so that means 4 of us will be off down to our old haunt of Goodfellas (Of course, being an Arabic channel, which advertises their schedules in Arabic, it's only taken us a thrid of a season to work this out - doh) (sans Eric this evening - think he failed a fitness test after last night) ok ok he's working
Fergie Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 i can see Brighton nicking this one. I'm gonna put a pound on 1-0 Brighton unfortunatly! Sorry. Just i can see them scoring an early goal and then just sitting and holding out. Were not very good against teams who just sit so i'm predicting a 1-0 to Brighton! Just because its Poyet's first game in charge!
eelpie Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 It''s a sunny warm afternoon in London, and I'm on my way. If the wind keeps down Brighton won't score freak goals. 2-1 Saints. COYR!
mcjwills Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Gutted, I am feeling like cr@p and can not go to the game today. Will have to stay home and watch it on line. 4-0 victory toady with 2 from Lambert, 1 from Conolly and 1 other.
benjii Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Trotman back in for Thomas. KD in goal. Otherwise unchanged.
ericofarabia Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Connolly and Antonio to start and Trotman back in for Thomas. 4 - 4 - 2 formation.
Under Weststand Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 I feel a defeat coming. For Brighton I hope
ericofarabia Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Blimey Merrington sounds upbeat and not whispering Not going to be easy looking at Brightons away record its similar to ours if you take away our win at either Southend or Oldham. COYRs Keeping my fingers crossed for the live streaming.
suewhistle Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 Just watching the pre-match stuff at home in the Alps: good ol' technology! Shall I have the Adnams Broadside, Marstons Pedigree or Fullers ESB: best go down to the cellar and get some of all of them! Please let me see them win....
View From The Top Posted 15 November, 2009 Posted 15 November, 2009 I feel a defeat coming. Told you.
