I've heard from a friend who knows a couple of un-named players (incase they get in trouble from this) that this season that the boys have massive pre-match nerves whilst playing at home because of the amount of pressure put on them from the fans. They have said they prefur to play away from home so far this season, and i think recently that shows from the results away from home.

He said they are so nervous before the first goal is scored and that they can settle after that and play football. A massive psychological barrier which needs to be addressed (i can do it as i study sports psychology if your reading pards!! lol).

After being told this before the Charlton game i did notice a little that it was a little sketchy before going 1-0 up.

Because of this i'm going to predict a 2-1 win for saints with it 1-0 to brighton at HT! Brighton want to prove to Gus that they are worthy and they must be buzzin a bit that he's their new manager!!

2-1 saints win...but a scrappy one. I reckon a Lambert penalty will win it.

The results do not back this "idea" I think weve only lost 2 home games?

If we start the way we did against Charlton I believe we will steamroller them. We are due a bit of luck wth our goal attempts and we could easily score 4 or 5. But be a long term Saints fan there is always that niggle that the wheels will fall off. But look how much our players are enjoying themselves especially Lambert what a giant of a player. Can't wait for Sunday although I must make sure I have taken my blood pressure tablet!! It's always good to be a Saints supporter but it's especially good now.

Yeah, we've only lost one home game in the League, and then to Birmingham in the Carling Cup.

Thats what I thought.

So for hi to say the players feel intimidated at home doesnt seem to match up?

Well I see where you are coming from, but the players can be incredibly nervous before the match and still outclass the opposition.

But he also said that this idea reflects on the results weve got away from home?

Which have been practiclly equal to thoses at home, just slightly worse i suppose with the draw at LO.

So it does not add up?

I'm sure it was a factor last season, when we were playing all the youngsters but I can't see it being a problem this season, with a more experienced team and a completely different atmosphere amongst the fans.

Yeah that's a point - Losing at Huddersfield and Swindon as well...

And anyway, we don't put pressure on them. We are supportive and positive, we don't get on their backs. I would have thought that that would encourage and relax them. If they are made nervous by our presence then your mate needs to tell them to chill out, because there really is no need.

We are the 12th man. :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041 :smt041

Any road up, they'll have to get used to it because crowds are increasing!!

Up this weekend for our first game this season from deepest darkest Devon. In the past 3 years I've not seen us win in 6 attempts, and seen only 1 draw!!

Now that the Sky curse has been turned over, lets hope mine has been as well!!!

will be watching it in a pub in brighton.

Awww come on - you'll be sat there like billy no mates listening to the Reds singing their hearts out. You'll attempt your own OWTSGMI but it just won't be the same.

It's going to be the kind of game that you're going to be kicking yourself for years to come that you weren't there to see it. You know it makes sense...

Hills offering 13/8 Saints for the Half Time & Full Time, have to say they should be expecting some interest at this price.

I can't see us not winning this one, so I've gone 3-0 in the prediction league. Although as many have said on here there is still that nagging doubt that a lot of us can't shake off that the new manager syndrome will kick in, or we will once again start slipping up in front of the cameras. Just shows what the last 5 years have done for fans confidence .

Having said that its about time Saints gave someone a right hammering, lets hope it Brighton on Sunday.

With the weather we've had there must be a chance this one will get called off, surely?

If it rains relentlessly between now and tomorrow afternoon then, yes but I don't think it will be in any doubt yet.

Who will be going on Sunday / who will be watching it on TV?

I didnt realise it was on Sky until i saw this on the Sky website:

Southampton v Brighton at St Marys in Coca-Cola League One. Brighton haven't beaten the Saints since 1981 and have scored just once in six games against the former Premier League giants. Also in HD

I particularly like the 'former Premier League giants' bit. :D

It's got a 3 or 4 goal victory written all over it for me.

COYR

Key is not to be complacent - there are plenty of games we can slip up in and they have the "new manager" factor. Good news is Wilkins will know them inside-out. I am sure AP will make sure we are not complacent, and won't underestimate them. Strong home win I reckon (but I wouldn't stake my mortgage on it!).

Just noticed teh wanqky KO time

With the time difference I'd miss the end of the game due to work, but luckily a mate has said he'll cover for me.

It's bad enough having to listen (maybe even watch any Internet streams for this one?) sober but missing the 2nd half is just too much.

I hope not. We already have 8 matches in four weeks scheduled ahead!

1-2 Brighton.

Said for effect..? ;)

I don't think Brighton are going to do anything other than put 11 players behind the ball, and try to steal a goal on the break. Gus Poyet says he's selecting a team to win. IMO, that's their only chance. If they score, I hope it'll be on-loan Aaron Davies that does it.

3-0 or 4-1
