SO16_Saint Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Who will be going on Sunday / who will be watching it on TV? I didnt realise it was on Sky until i saw this on the Sky website: Southampton v Brighton at St Marys in Coca-Cola League One. Brighton haven't beaten the Saints since 1981 and have scored just once in six games against the former Premier League giants. Also in HD I particularly like the 'former Premier League giants' bit. It's got a 3 or 4 goal victory written all over it for me. COYR
Mr X Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Lets hope the wheels don't come off the saints party train
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Given our current form, it looks like a win for us but their players will (surely) be out to impress their new manager, so it could be tough. Nonetheless, 3-1 Saints and me and the boy will be there to see it.
TheSaint75 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I will be their, gotta a gulls supporting mate coming up for it so would be nice to give them (I was going to say battering, but that has to be a double-entendre against brighton and I'm not that way inclined) thrashing!! COYS 4-0
rick1976.4.38 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 3-0 to the mighty red and whites.could be tricky as theyve now got poyet but im sticking with my prediction.we are tough to beat at the moment and think games like this where we used to balls up are hopefuly now behind us,coyr
saints_is_the_south Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Going to be a tougher game than I'd have thought a week a go before they appointed their new manager. Even so, if Wycombe who are bottom of the table can put 4 past them then I fully expect that we can do the same. Without wanting to sound over confident on arrogant, we should be winning this 3 or 4 nil
S-Clarke Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 It'll be very tough IMO, no 4/5-0's here...i'd love to be proven wrong though. i'll take a scrappy 1-0 in the final minuite right now.
Gordon Mockles Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I will be there despite the odd time. This is the type of game we should be winning and I expect a 3-1 to Saints. Hammond, Lambert & Connolly.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Coming back from Essex for this one, should be good.
red&white56 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I'm going - it's almost a local derby - so should be a good atmosphere.
shurlock Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Wonder if schneiderlin's going to be fit for sun- anybody know what's wrong (Sky mentioned an ankle)? Do think some of our passing went stray yesterday - we would miss him. Last season when schneiderlin picked an injury he tended to be ruled out for a long period.
Saint J 77 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I hope we win by a few goals; it would be even better not to concede any goals but obviously winning is the most important thing. Now the Sky curse is broken (last night) surely we can win this!? Onwards and upwards!!!
dellgirl Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 He had hamstring problems last year, he was pointing to the top of his foot up by the ankle before he went off last night and was obviously in a bit of trouble. It will be bad news if he is not fit for Sunday as midfield fell apart in the second half without him.
londonsaint1604 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Would love to have gone to this but I can't due it being at 4:30 on sunday. Would liked to have gone to Bristol as well but couldn't make that either. Anyway, I expect another win from this one. Let's say 3-1 saints again.
West End Saint Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I am going cant wait we are playing with so much confidence & the team have the added incentive of if we win could be out of the relegation zone. Shame we are there first game with new manager but if we play how we have been playing we should be to good for them Saints to win 3-1 Lambert Connoly Lallana COYS !
krissyboy31 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Could have done without the Poyet appointment TBH. I still think we will win but it won't be as comfortable as many of us thought last week.
nickfinks Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I see a 6-0 hammering for poyet's boys.. COYR
Professor Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 The new manager syndrome is probably caused in part by players trying harder in order to impress the new boss but however hard Albion's players try, technically they are an inferior bunch to the current Saints team. Can't see anything other than a win by several clear goals.
70's Mike Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Another team in blue from the east, plenty of seagulls or seaweed on show
oggiee Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Moooooooving on up, Moooooving on out, Time to break free, Noooooooothing can stop me (us)
Junction 9 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I couldn't care less about this clean sheet nonsense. Bang in 5 and let them have have one.
Lazlo78 Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 I see that livesport247.com has the game scheduled. The quality there is a little better than the justintv-feeds, but the feed is very stable there. Do remember though that it costs €3/week to get membership. I'm absolutely thrilled that I'm virtually guaranteed to be able to see the game :-D
Matthew Le God Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 What makes this one tricky is we have no idea of who or how tactically Brighton will play but they will have a good idea for us.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Its the old other side of bitterne score for me .Fournil.
spyinthesky Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 Saints have been scoring goals for fun, Brighton have a v leaky defence. Odds on 1-0 away win!!!
Andy_Porter Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 If Schneirderlin is unfit i'd play Thomas at right back and move James into midfield, if Connolly isn't fit then play Mellis and go 4-5-1. Says a lot that without two top players like Schneiderlin and Connolly we still look like having a really strong starting eleven.

Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 12 November, 2009 Posted 12 November, 2009 For what it's worth, I had an interesting chat this morning with a current employee at BHA who is involved at coaching level. He said that Dean Wilkins was a great coach at the club, was severely dumped on by **** Knight, and will be exceedingly good for us. He reckons the players have said themselves that they have gone backwards since Deano left hence their poor form of the past two seasons especially at home. He was also not surprised that Dean Hammond and Dan Harding were doing so well for us. I also told him I would seriously expect us to be runners up in this league behind Leeds and certainly in the play-offs. And no I am not delusional. So, all in all, should be good home win. BUT who remembers 1983, the year we finished runners up to Liverpool, Albion won 2-1 at The Dell in a surprise win. So let's not get too carried away.
Ashtead Saint Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 I will be watching this match on TV at the Talk of the Town in Corralejo, Fuerteventura. I have already bought two outgoing flight tickets due to this match. The first, when the match was originally scheduled for the Saturday, was a Sunday flight so that I could watch the match live and join the rest of my family the following day. Then a Saturday flight when the the date of the match got switched due to the TV coverage. I did toy with the idea of delaying my departure until Monday, but we are coming back on Wednesday!
Sour Mash Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Anyone know how many tickets we've sold? Or how many Brighton have sold?
DT Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 The new manager syndrome is probably caused in part by players trying harder in order to impress the new boss You know, sometimes, you can really tell why you're a professor.
Window Cleaner Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Anyone know how many tickets we've sold? Or how many Brighton have sold? dunno, you could always try the "Brighton Ticket Sales" thread.

Lets hope our players know what those little rascals are up to and therefore we try a little harder to counteract their little ploy. Saints 4-0.....The Saints to impress Pards. COYRs
DT Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 dunno, you could always try the "Brighton Ticket Sales" thread. Have we signed Skacel yet?
SamKimish Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Sorry to hijack the thread but I don't have the rights to start my own. Sky Sports have just started a vote on Facebook to see who are the best fans out of Southampton, Skates and Bournemouth. Currently, Portsmuff are winning with 63% of the vite and Southampton have only 25% We have won polls as a forum before (the most famous being a team full of Matt Le Tissiers as the greatest ever Premiership team haha) so I'm sure we can do this one too. The poll is just over half way down on here: http://www.facebook.com/SkySports?ref=nf#/SkySports?v=app_60082431253&ref=nf Cheers.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Mmm, I am not yet confident enough to predict an easy win. Everything tells us a win should be a formality, however a couple of injuries hanging over the squad might mess the party up. Also, their squad is better than the previous manager realised IMO. I reckon a 1-1 draw rather than a storming thrashing this weekend thanks to their new manager turning up on the scene.

SNSUN Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 We all fear the worst when we're on a good run and know that at some point we'll lose, but having seen the enthusiasm in the players and the will to fight for every ball vs Charlton on Wednesday I can't see us being overturned by a Brighton team with a new manager. Poyet is still finding his feet there, and while I do believe in the new manager curse, I can't see anything other than a Saints win. (And FINALLY a clean sheet...) 3-0.
RonManager Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Gaining a new manager can have a positive effect, but it is by no means a curse. I believe we are at a point now where we do not need to worry about the opposition in this league as there are no big surprises out there. As long as we play as we have been doing lately we know we will score goals and win matches.

Fergie Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 I've heard from a friend who knows a couple of un-named players (incase they get in trouble from this) that this season that the boys have massive pre-match nerves whilst playing at home because of the amount of pressure put on them from the fans. They have said they prefur to play away from home so far this season, and i think recently that shows from the results away from home. He said they are so nervous before the first goal is scored and that they can settle after that and play football. A massive psychological barrier which needs to be addressed (i can do it as i study sports psychology if your reading pards!! lol). After being told this before the Charlton game i did notice a little that it was a little sketchy before going 1-0 up. Because of this i'm going to predict a 2-1 win for saints with it 1-0 to brighton at HT! Brighton want to prove to Gus that they are worthy and they must be buzzin a bit that he's their new manager!! 2-1 saints win...but a scrappy one. I reckon a Lambert penalty will win it.

Spot on Ron - new managers can turn things round but we are a very strong side in this league - so expecting 2 nil Saints.
RonManager Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Pardew on the OS - Morgan and Wayne fit. Murty has done some training today.
eelpie Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 New manager syndrome? I don't remember Pards benefitting from it? It's just a myth. We'll win ok, though BHA will try their darndest and score one.
CLOTH EARS Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 I think this game will be tight. Brighton will be fired up, their players will be trying to impress their new manager. We should still edge it though, probably 2-1. If we had played Brighton a couple of weeks ago I think we'd have beaten them convincingly.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 I'll be there but what a stupid time to schedule a football match . If we can avoid the twin pitfalls of complacency and overconfidence we should have too much quality for B&HA to cope with I'd have thought .
SaintPaddy Posted 13 November, 2009 Posted 13 November, 2009 Speaking to a Brighton fan at work who watched us on the box Wednesday. He is **** scared we will hammer them, reckons their defence is really poor, thinks we look really good. Roll on Sunday I said. COYR 4-0
