After his two goals against Bristol Rovers, it was rightly pointed out that David Connelly had scored four goals in four games for the Saints. In fact he hasn't played a full game for the team yet. After 3 games coming on as sub, he started against Rovers but was subbed at 78 minutes. His 4 goals come from around 170 minutes on the pitch, so roughly a goal in every 45 minutes!

Connelly says himself that he is not match fit yet, and incredibly, that he is still rusty after so long out of the game. An absolute coup by Saints to get him and it would be interesting to know how it came about, when other teams have clearly missed out on an absolute gem. If its down to Pardew's time at West Ham, this could be one of the best things Pards has done so far, which is saying something given the quality of his other signings.

Had this chat in the pub last night, him and Lambo must surely be the best strikeforce in the league, and when Connelly is fully fit and has a few more games to blow the cob webs out and he understands Lamberts play better, they are going to destroy teams in this league.

And the thing that amazes me is that to assemble the best strikeforce in the league, it has only cost us roughly 1 million! We spent more money on Schnierderlin than that! (Not knocking Schnierderlin hes been awesome this season).

that is because we are in league 1

dont forget, lambert cost as much as the next 3 big league 1 transfers put together this summer

you said it amazes you..yet £1m is MASSIVE money in league 1

Fully aware of that TDD, all I was saying was that looking at our history of strange purchases that we can pick up these two for a sum of money that in the big scheme of the football world, is bugger all.

I like everything about him, his positional play is first class, his finishing is lethal and not to mention his attitude. Didint he apologise to AP for his performance after the Dons game?

He seems like a football fan first and foremost - and every goal seems to mean so much to him. I like him a lot

Absolutely. I'd add to that his attitude is even more commendable considering he's dropped down 2 divisions. It would be very easy for him to act like a big time Charlie, but his attitude is first class and he seems to be relishing getting the opportunity to play for us.

If you read his write up on website hes gonna be a hero for the youngsters too. Mentions Adam, Lloyd and Michail - couldn't have done it without them. Brilliant attitude from a senior pro - even at 75% fitness he's worth his weight in gold :-)

It was this forum and in particular certain posters that first attracted David to join , The mighty Saints. He was up for the challenge between day one and nineteen when he was approached in the canteen:smt062

Has been top-class so far. Interesting because in the past fans at other clubs have accused him of having attitudes problems.

Fair play to Pards stroke of genius to sign Connolly if he stays fit he will get bucket loads of goals I agree he & Lambert must be the most potent strike force in the division and I think they would still do well for us in the CCC.

You have to handed to Pards I dont think he has got a signing wrong everyone he has brought in has enhanced the team & made a contribution hope we can sign Antonio & Trotters in Jan that would be ace

For those of us with an elephants memory...doesn't David Connolly remind you... a little.... of one of our 60's hero. ?

I refer to George O'Brien. Not perhaps physically (George was only 5'6")... but his style of play.

George was one of the laziest player I ever saw (in the Le Tissier sense) and would seldom run with the ball but had a great finish with either foot whether he was outside the box, or stood on the goal line, and he could put away a good penalty, too. A real goal poacher and one of the most consistant strikers the club has ever had. 180 goals in just over 6 seasons speaks for itself.

At an average rate of a goal per game, David Connolly could become a new strike hero and think..

how we might perform ..when he is fully match fit.!

He may have done in the past, but I think that two years out of the game can have a sobering effect on someone and he must feel very glad (and grateful) to be back in the game and playing again. (Thanks to AP).
